Sermon on the Mount offered at Ransom Wind Ranch
The Chickasha Chamber of Commerce and several business members are hosting Dr.
Lew Sterrett’s presentation of the “Sermon on the Mount” at the Ransom Wind Ranch
located just West of Verden.
The presentation will be offered on November 12, 13, and 14 at 7pm. Music will be
provided by the Cross Brand Band at 6:40pm each evening.
Sermon on the Mount uses horses to teach biblical principles and demonstrate loving,
successful horse and trainer interaction. Each presentation is uniquely different.
Lew Sterrett will work with horse of various stages from untrained to seasoned winners. He will explain how the horse understands what the trainer is communicating and
makes the decision whether to follow the trainers guidance or not. Those in attendance
will be able to observe life lessons from the language of the horse. See how the horse
goes from distrust to trust, from stiff and resistant to supple and willing.
You can watch horses make changes in their thinking that parallel the changes we
make in our life decisions, and be encouraged and strengthened as you witness biblical
relationship principles illustrated in a clear, simple and powerful manner.
Sponsors include HSI Sensing, Byford Auto, Standley Systems and First National
Bank and Co.
Dr. Lew Sterrett draws parallels between training a horse and human’s life
decisions with his “Sermon on the Mount” program.

4th Street Repairs Begin - Traffic Delays Expected
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation
will begin work Nov. 11 repairing patch failures on
a stretch of Highway 81 between Almar Avenue in
Chickasha and Highway 19E.
An Oklahoma Department of Transportation
(ODOT) spokesman said a diamond grinder would
be used on the roadway to make it smoother. He said
it was a project similar to one previously completed
further south in the area of Ninnekah on a stretch of 81
near the intersection of Highway 19W last year.
Message boards along Highway 81 alert motorists
to expect delays during the upcoming repairs. Another
phase of the project will include repairs on Highway
81N from 19W to Minnesota Avenue.
Chickasha City Manager Stewart Fairburn said ODOT has indicated it would try to keep delays to a minimum, especially with the opening night of the Chickasha Festival of Light on Nov. 22 less than two weeks
away.
“At least it’s not on Grand Avenue,” Fairburn said. “On a positive note, ODOT did come in and re-stripe the
lanes on Grand in time for the Festival.”
ODOT’s Jay Earp said the contractor is prohibited from doing any of the work north of Almar through January 5th to avoid disrupting Festival traffic.
“The contract also calls for the Almar to Minnesota work to be done at night to limit impact on during business hours,” he said.
Drivers are encouraged to use safety precautions in the construction area, not use cell phones and other devices and remember that traffic fines double for offenses committed in work areas when workers are present.
The estimated completion date for all the work on 81 is April.

Relay for Life Brunch
“Have Yourself A Crazy Little Christmas” is a play
written by Chickasha native Collin Andrulonis. The
play will be performed by Chickasha’s Community
Theatre on December 5th, 6th and 7th at the historic
Washita Theatre.
Here is a synopsis of the story line: It’s Molly’s
first year to host Christmas Eve. She wants to make
sure everything is perfect. The kitchen table is beautifully set. The banana-blueberry pie is chilling in the
fridge. The turkey is roasting, and everyone invited
has a beautifully wrapped Christmas Eve present
under the beautifully trimmed Christmas tree. What
could possibly go wrong?
But wait – the Christmas carolers, who were so
cute the first couple of times around, WON’T STOP
COMING … her son gets a black eye just in time for
family pictures … a controlling mother-in-law, who
has never approved of Molly in the first place, invites
her husband’s ex-fiancé to dinner … Nana’s drink
accidentally gets switched with spiked cider … and
the children’s pet ferret gets loose and finds a hiding
place – inside the turkey.
Don’t miss this lively depiction of the perfect...
ly hilarious ... Christmas. This will be the premier
performance of this original production, seating is
limited. Tickets are available at Jay’s Jewelry, 321
Chickasha Avenue. Tickets are $12 for adult and $6 for youth 18 years
of age and younger. Curtain times are December 5th at 7:30pm, December
6th at 2pm and 7:30pm, and December 7th at 2:00pm.

Ram Truck Recall – Car Pro News
Vehicles Affected: Nearly 315,000 model-year
2010-14 Ram 2500, 3500, 4500 and 5500 pickup
trucks manufactured between March 27, 2009, and

The Problem: The electrical connectors of the
diesel fuel heater may overheat, which could cause
the fuel heater to leak fuel, increasing the risk of a
fire.
The Fix: Chrysler will begin notifying owners
on Dec. 5, and dealers will replace the harness side
connector with a silver-plated beryllium copper
terminal service kit and inspect the fuel heater for
leaks, replacing it as necessary; all work will be
done for free.
What Owners Should
Do: Owners can call

Highway Traffic Safety
Administration’s

A farmer and his three sons were standing in the
barnyard. The oldest son, about 16 years of age says
to his dad, “You know dad, I really need a car. All
my friends at school have a car.”
The farmer says, “Son, you see that John Deere
tractor sitting in the shed over there, when that tractor
is paid for I’ll get you a car.”
The second son, about 14 years of age says, “Dad,
I really need a four-wheeler, all of my friends have
four-wheelers.”
The old farmer says, “Son, you see that John Deere
tractor sitting in the shed over there, when that tractor
is paid for, I’ll get you a four-wheeler.”
The third son, about six years of age says, “Dad, I
really need a bicycle.”
The farmer says, “Son, you see that John Deere
tractor sitting in the shed over there, when it is paid
for I’ll get you a new bicycle.”
About that time a chicken is walking across the
farmyard when a rooster runs up and jumps on her
back.
The six year old boy goes over and kicks the
rooster off the back of the hen and says, “Hey, around
here nobody rides ‘til the John Deere is paid for!”

We received a letter this month that the City of Chickasha had a problem with
their water system in July and the failure of a valve in their water system caused
the chlorine level in the affected area to drop to a level just above the minimum
standard. The standard for coliform bacteria levels in the water was exceeded
AGAIN. They could have notified us at that time but they chose to treat us like
the residents of a banana republic and hide the problem until just recently. Their letter months after the problem occurred said “This was not an emergency. If it had been, you would have been notified immediately.” Of course
that same letter contradicts that statement by saying “People with severely compromised immune systems, infants, and some elderly may be at increased risk”. I believe this list would include those fighting cancer, rheumatoid arthritis and
many other health problems, but the City officials just don’t seem to care about
these folks. These people were not given the courtesy from their City Officials to
be notified publicly so they could take steps to drink only bottled water for a short
time so that their health would not be endangered. I can not emphasize how irresponsible, callous and despicable that hiding this failure from the citizens so they
could act before their health was endangered was. If a valve fails tell everyone
right away - that’s all that we ask.
The odd thing was that I replaced a worn out water softener at my home in July
and part of the set up for the new one is to test the untreated water for hardness
etc. before setting the system to operate. I used the test strips for the hardness
but also used the test strip for chlorine and found that the water entering my own
home straight from the City system showed zero chlorine according to the test. I
remember telling my family how dangerous this was and how bacteria and viruses
could be present if there were no chlorine in the system. I was very surprised and
tested it again with another strip with the same result.
Before I moved back to Chickasha (I was born here) I lived in large cities in
three other states. I very much recall how each of these cities at times had breakages or equipment failures and the public was almost always informed via television, radio, and/or newspapers that they needed to take precautions for a short
time while the problem was fixed and/or the system was flushed. They didn’t
treat their citizens like they lived in a banana republic and played it straight up. (The residents there realized that equipment breaks and it is just going to happen –
they were glad to be informed.) Chickasha residents would probably react exactly
like the citizens in those other places I lived - just fix it and let us know when it’s
ok again. If those Chickasha city officials would only quit hiding the problems, who
knows - their residents might even start trusting them again.
