Manchester Artist Association www.ManchesterArtistsAssoc.com November 3, 2014 Dear MAA member, Member Meeting ~ NOVEMBER 3, 2014; 7pm Please note that all of our meetings are held on the first Monday of the month UNLESS it falls on a holiday (i.e., Labor day). When this occurs we meet on the following week. If for any reason, we need to cancel a meeting due to inclement weather we will post it on our website: http://www.manchesterartists.com. Letter from the President I would like to take this opportunity to say hello and welcome to both the current and new members of our wonderful organization. Though I have only been affiliated with MAA for a short time, I am very impressed with the level of talent and quality of artists that belong to it. MAA is celebrating its 48th year. That is quite an accomplishment, and something we can all be proud of. The Board of Directors stand with me and are eager to help grow our organization. We are planning to expand the number of shows we host and create other fun ways to become more visible to our community. We can only do this together with input from our members and staff. I am looking at a few things we can do to make our board/general meetings more productive. One of the things I know the members enjoy is our featured speaker segment. I’d like to give them more time so they may demonstrate their craft as effectively as possible. I think it’s also important to mention that our board meetings are open to ALL members, so feel free to stop in. One of my goals is to make things seamless and transparent. Communication is a key point to the success of any organization. I have an open door policy. If you have a comment, question, concern, or suggestion please feel free to contact me directly at 603-553-8002. MAA BOARD MEETING November 3 @ 6pm located in the room next to the meeting room. November Guest Speaker Elaine Farmer of Amherst, NH Elaine has recently written a text book titled Harmonious Color Schemes; a nononsense approach using the Color Wheel. Through her teaching experiences her students led her to focus on developing this easy to understand color mixing approach for use by working artists, teachers and the novice painter. The topic of discussion will be on the rich history of color along with their connotations, gaining awareness of the pigment color used in your tube paints, how to select harmonious color schemes using the Color Wheel as a guide and practice the art of using a limited color palette. Elaine believes this method is a no-nonsense approach using the Color Wheel and is suitable for the beginner student as well as the professional artist. It can be applied to any subject or style of art including abstract, expressionism or impressionism and can be applied to all painting mediums including beyond paint such as fiber art, interior decorating and even photography. Color harmony is essential to all good art no matter the medium, subject or style. Elaine Barrette Farmer has been a professional artist since 1985, began teaching in 1991 and continues to offers fine art classes and workshops at her Studio in Amherst, NH. She is a national award winning artist, an active art exhibit participant in juried shows and has a number of images licensed for commercial use. She also prides herself as an active advocate of the fine arts in her community and area art organizations.
