Have You Seen the Lights in the Assembly Room?
Have you noticed the new lights in the Assembly Room at the elementary school? These new full-spectrum
ceiling lights offer a variety of lighting options and are operated by two separate dimmer switches, a real improvement from the “on-or-off” choices offered by our old lights.
This is our first expenditure for building improvements from the Hans van Riel Building Care Fund. Established last spring with 25 generous donations honoring Hans van Riel for his years of dedicated service in
the classrooms of Monadnock Waldorf School, the fund is intended to carry on the contributions Mr. van
Riel made to the beauty and craftsmanship throughout our elementary school building. Thank you Hans!

High School Student Ambassadors Named
Eight students have been selected as Student Ambassadors to host admissions visitors to MWHS this year. The students were nominated for these positions, vetted by the high school faculty, and have been oriented to their positions by
Kristin Powers, High School Section Chair, and Pat Meissner, Director of Outreach and Enrollment. The Ambassadors
are looking forward to welcoming potential students to our school, providing the student perspective to visitors, and assisting with follow up.

Welcome Sheryl Duncan
Sheryl Duncan began her new duties as assistant in our elementary office last week and she’s getting settled
and oriented. Sheryl has experience as an administrative assistant in a busy church office. She has been an
elementary paraprofessional in the public school and has organized and supervised after school programs in
our area. Her references describe her as organized, detail oriented, warm, and professional. She is accustomed to juggling multiple priorities while keeping a calm, caring demeanor! Sheryl is new to Waldorf education and is sure to have lots of questions. Please take a minute when you can to stop in to introduce yourself. I know you will join the whole administrative team in making her feel welcome in her new position.

Thank You-whoooo!
Thanks to all who made Halloween special here at the elementary school. Older students entertained
younger students with stories, songs, skits, and feats of strength and agility. Teachers entertained and
frightened their charges (even more than usual!) and a fine time was had by all. Treats were abundant
so thanks to all of you who made sure the children were so well taken care of. There’s really no limit to
what grown-ups will do for children! Thank goodness!

Crafts Fair
As you know, the Crafts Fair is next week! There is still lots to do and help needed. There are items to be
priced, price tags to be made, raffle tickets to sell, crafts to be made and then there’s the set-up on Friday,
November 14. Elementary school lets out early that day, at noon, so that the elementary school can be transformed into the 35th Annual Crafts Fair & Festival! Volunteers are needed that day from noon until about 5
pm to move furniture, unpack boxes for the school store, price things, set-up children’s crafts and much
more. If you can help, please call Courtney Fugere in the Main Office and let her know, 603-357-4442. Even
if you don’t call, feel free to show up on Friday ready to work! Many hands make light work! Thanks in advance for all your help.
New Adult Eurythmy Course
Our eurythmy teacher, Juan Carlos Lancellotti, will be offering a eurythmy course for
adults starting on Friday, November 7 and continuing each Friday through Feb. 20.
(Please note: If there is no school on the day, for weather or school vacations, the classes will not be held.) Class will be from 6:00—7:30 pm. Fee for each class will be $15$20, depending on the participant’s ability to pay.

Community Kitchen and Thanksgiving
I invite you to think ahead to our annual Thanksgiving Assembly on Wednesday morning, November 26. This spirited
(and often hilarious!) assembly is a time to gather as a school community and to welcome back alums and alumni families celebrating the bounty of our community life here at Monadnock Waldorf School.
This year we will celebrate at Heberton Hall next to the Keene Public Library on Winter Street in Keene. This
new space will allow us to comfortably accommodate all of our friends and families—old and new—and will give the Lost
Faculty Band an exciting new venue!
It’s our custom to invite all students to bring a donation for the Community Kitchen to this special assembly and it is always humbling to see how much non-perishable food is collected. Our intrepid fifth graders will ferry the food to the
Community Kitchen after the assembly where it will distributed over the holidays to families in our community.
Addresses for Grandparents and Special Friends
We are preparing to mail a fall newsletter full of school photos, annual reports from our school leaders, and other news
about Monadnock Waldorf School. We would love to include your family’s grandparents, god parents, and special
friends so we can help them learn more about MWS and keep them up-to-date about the great things that are happening here at school. Simply send names and addresses to [email protected] and I’ll do the rest!

Calling All Dessert Makers!
Please consider baking a dessert for the Crafts Fair this year! We need all kinds of decadent delicacies
for the Friday night Adults-Only event as well as desserts for the Saturday cafe. All types of desserts are
welcome, including gluten-free options. If you are interested, please sign up in the office at the elementary school or call Mary Gannon, 5th grade parent, at 239-8645 or [email protected]. Thank
you for your help.
HANNAFORD Gift Card Fundraiser
We are reintroducing our monthly Hannaford Gift Card fundraising program. This is our favorite kind of fundraiser;
earning money from purchases our families already make! Simply put, MWS earns money when you pre-pay for your
Hannaford purchases.
In 2013-2014, we earned almost $1000. Our 2014-2015 goal is to raise $200 per month. We need 30 families to purchase at least $200 in gift cards each month, including summer months, to reach our goal. The more we use the gift
cards to make our regular purchases at Hannaford, the more our school raises!
Funds raised will go to the Parent Council for the benefit of the entire student body. The Parent Council provides funds
for 4th grade violin rentals, class trips, annual giving, the high school pledge drive, emergency needs, and more!
To begin your participation in the program, all you need to do is bring us a check for $100 or more (in $100 increments)
and you will receive one or more $100 Hannaford gift cards. Hannaford gives MWS 5% of the total value purchased,
back toward our fundraising needs. It is that easy! Please see the flyer at the back of The Weekly for details.
