As a gift for Pastor Appreciation
month a CBC member gave me a very nice
card and a box of chocolates. I love
chocolate. In fact I like just about any
sweet. This box has sat on my desk and has
not moved since I received it. While it has
not moved, it has become more and more
empty. I will find myself reaching into the
box for a piece or two without even
thinking about what I’m doing. It’s simple,
put chocolate in front of me and I’m going
to eat it.
There is a huge lesson in all this. I
have to be very careful of what I put within
arm’s reach of myself. Everything that I
love is not good for me. Sure, it might taste
good, but that doesn’t mean it is good. We
all love to sin, and whether we want to
admit it or not sin does taste good. So good
that putting ourselves in close proximity to
it means that at times, without even
thinking about it we will find ourselves
reaching out for it. Romans 7:15 sums up
the fallen nature of man quite well. “For I
do not understand my own actions. For I do
not do what I want, but I do the very thing
I hate.” I want to not eat so much
chocolate. I want to avoid empty calories,
but whenever I’m around it, I’m going to
reach for it. So, I like everyone else need to
be very cautious of what’s around me.
Failure to do so means we might find
ourselves reaching for something that’s a
whole lot more dangerous than chocolate.

SPECIAL THANKS!
To All Cadiz Baptist
Church,
Dad, Ashlee and I can not begin
to thank you all for the
outpouring of love and support
during mom’s passing. The
comfort and love shared with
us and our family truly lifted
and insulated us during such a
tough time. Though living
elsewhere, Cadiz had never felt
more like home than during
those few days and it was such
a blessing to find ourselves
back at Cadiz Baptist – a place
which always loved and
sheltered us our whole lives.
With Love,
Johnston Boyd
