Dear Parent/Guardian:
The Wisconsin State Assessment System (WSAS) requires testing of all fourth
through eighth and tenth grade students enrolled in public schools. The Wisconsin
Knowledge and Concepts Examinations (WKCE) covers the academic areas of science and social studies at grades 4, 8, and 10. The information gained from this assessment will be used throughout the district to assist students, teachers and parents in planning for increased academic achievement. The results of these tests do
not impact your child’s grades.
The testing window for the Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Examination is
October 27 - November 7, 2014.
2014 The test will be administered in your child’s school.
It is important for your child and for our district that our students all participate in,
and do their best on these examinations. Scores will be returned in Spring of 2015.
Depending on the needs of the student, English Language Learners, students with
504 plans, and students with disabilities may receive accommodations on the assessment. This decision is made by school staff in conjunction with parents. A
small number of students with disabilities may require an alternate form of assessment. This assessment will be administered during the testing window and the results will be available in Spring, 2015. Parents of these students are encouraged to
contact their student’s exceptional education teacher or counselor if they are uncertain as to their student’s involvement in the alternate assessment.
It is important for your child to be present for all testing sessions.

The Cross-Country competition took place at West High School on
October 15th. Congratulations to all the participants. You represented

Come to the COMMUNITY MEETING on Wednesday, November 5 in Room 119. Mrs. Schultz will update you on what’s happening at Lowell. Listen to what the teacher rep brings to the meeting. And
most of all, bring your new ideas. Then feel free to stay and attend the PTO meeting to follow.
Have some fun at Skateland night on the 6th from 5:00-8:00. Meet your friends, listen to music and
skate - please mention that you are with Lowell Elementary at the door!

November 11th is our Culver's Night...whether dining in or driving thru 10% of all sales from 5-8
come back to our school.
We will be having our Family Movie night (movie to be picked by the 5th grade class) on Friday the
21st. Join us for some budget friendly fun while enjoying a movie, soda, popcorn and more!
Thank you to all the parents that volunteered at the Masquerade Ball! We couldn't host these events
without all of your help, it is truly appreciated!
Lowell PTO
The Christmas Clearing Council of Waukesha County (CCC) promotes and coordinates giving to families in need during the Christmas season. The CCC provides a clearinghouse that matches these families with area groups, families, businesses, and individuals
who wish to help people on a person-to-person basis.
Christmas Clearing Council applicaƟons will be sent home in the near future with the youngest child in the family. Only one applicaƟon is needed per family. The deadline to return the applicaƟons to CCC is Wednesday, November 19th.
Guidelines to determine if you are eligible include the following:
• Client must reside with their child or children in Waukesha County.
• Families must qualify for the reduced lunch program per the federal guidelines.
• Eligible children are those from birth to Senior in high school.
When you receive the applica on from school, please complete and return to school as soon as you can so we can get them to CCC
in plenty of me before the deadline. If you have any ques ons please contact Stephanie Kaebisch, School Social Worker, at 9701626.

Steve Carpenter Scholarship
Steve Carpenter was a 1972 graduate in Physical Education from the University of Wisconsin – La
Crosse. While at UWL, “Carp” was on the tennis team and played #1 singles and doubles. As part
of his Master’s degree program in Physical Education at Brigham Young University, Steve wrote a
thesis – “The Evolution of the Two-Handed Tennis Backhand” – in 1987. In researching the topic
Steve personally interviewed and
received questionnaire responses from incredible sources like Arthur Ashe, Peter Burwash, Cliff
Drysdale, Pancho Gonzalez, Rene LaCoste, Frank Parker, John Powless, Fred Stolle, Harold Solomon, Tony Trabert, Jack Kramer, Pancho Segura, Vic Braden, Rick Vetter, and many, many others.
Carp was a Father, friend, teacher, coach, and mentor to many. Steve touched literally thousands
of youngsters and adults during his 35 years as a dedicated and caring Physical Education Teacher
and Coach in the School District of Waukesha, WI. Steve was a Tennis Professional at the Moorland Park Indoor Tennis Club in New Berlin, WI, for many years and also at The Olympia Resort in
Oconomowoc, WI. He could always be found in the summers at the Fowler Park tennis courts in
Oconomowoc, WI, giving lessons and working with players of all ages and abilities.
Of the many, many things we all admired about Carp was his enduring sense of humor.
One example is how he used the “No Child Left Behind” legislation to his own benefit in promoting
Physical Education by handing out buttons that said, “No Child Left on Their Behind”!
Sadly, Steve Carpenter passed away after a courageous 16 month battle with ALS in 2010.
The Steve Carpenter Scholarship was funded through the generous contributions of Steve’s family,
friends, and supporters.
The scholarship provides up to $500 each year for a hard working student or students at Lowell
Elementary School that have specific needs in areas of, but not limited to: Physical Therapy,
Occupational Therapy, Speech/Language Therapy, Auditory/Verbal Therapy, etc. Additonally,
students with a demonstrated interest in tennis will also be considered and fees for the summer
program offered through the Waukesha Tennis Association could be funded. Students interested in
other types of athletic/academic/musical endeavors are also encouraged to apply.
A letter from the family of the student, with a brief description of the specific needs of the child,
should be forwarded to Bill Kirsch at Lowell Elementary School by April 1st. The Carpenter family
will then select and notify the recipient(s) of their award.

INFINITE CAMPUS
ACTIVATION CODE
PARENTS, if you have not picked up your
activation code for Infinite Campus please
stop in the office ASAP. Codes can only
be handed to the exact person listed on
the flyer, meaning a husband cannot pick
up for his wife and vice-versa.
All codes not picked up by the end of
NOVEMBER will be shredded.
It is very important that you log into Infinite Campus regularly to keep abreast of
your child’s activity at school, i.e., grades,
attendance, fee, etc.
BOOK/USE FEES
If you have not paid your BOOK/USE FEES to
date, please do so ASAP to avoid your
account going to collections. Once the
account is turned over to collections, there
is interest added and you will have to pay
the collection agency instead of working
with us at Lowell. You can pay by cash,
check (made out to the SD of Waukesha) or
using a credit card on Infinite Campus/
REVTrack. Log into Infinite Campus to see
your total due.
Remember, fees following your child
through their senior year. They will continue
to accumulate. Once your child wants to
participate in a sport or receive a hard copy
of their diploma, they will have to have ALL
FEES PAID. It is much more manageable to
not let the fees accumulate year after year.

Weather
This is the time of year when the
weather changes daily, please
watch the weather reports so that
your children come to school
dressed appropriately for the
weather! Also, please make sure
that all of your child’s clothing and
items are properly marked with
their name, grade, and teacher!
We have an abundance of clothing
and items left at the end of every
year!
If names were marked on the
items, we could returned them to
the student.
