Those who were unable to make it missed an excellent event with very positive feelings and enjoyment by all. This letter is to commend those responsible for planning, notifying Council members, handling all the logistics and executing one of the best family events we have ever had in the Council. Sir Knight Virgil Smith and his wonderful bride Lady Roxanne put in countless hours in the preparations for the Anniversary Celebration and decorated the venue appropriately for Western dancing. These two put love and labor into the decorations and settings as well as providing a superb BBQ dinner. The props; hay bales, seasoned lumber fence for pictures, table decorations with fresh flowers on checkered table clothes, cowboy hats for the pictures, red long-john banners with each Council members name and date of joining, great avocado-corn dip and fresh cut up fruit to start. Along with preparing these things, they arranged for the DJ and Dance instructors who made it a delightful evening. I think we all should express our sincere thanks to SK Virgil and Lady Roxanne for all they did-above and beyond-to make the event very memorable. Yours in Christ, Ken Peterson PGK These monthly bulletin’s are also available on-line and frequently it will have picture’s of our various activities included in those issues. To access go to: http://www.kofc8599.org Click on: Newsletter Because He Lives We live in freighting times. There is a lot going on around the world and here at home. Sometimes all the unrest makes us wonder what our future holds. Jesus rose from the dead two thousand years ago and he gave “many infallible proofs” that He was alive (Acts l:3). Bill Gaither wrote a song that addresses this issue. The words tell us why we can keep going in the face of fear. The title is: Because He lives. . Because He lives I can face tomorrow because He lives my fear is gone. Because I know He holds the future-my life is worth the living just because He lives. God sent His son, His name was Jesus He came to love heal and forgive. He lived and died to buy my pardon-Now an empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives. How sweet to hold a new born baby and feel the pride and joy he brings-but greater still the calm assurance, this child can face uncertain days because He lives. And then one day I’ll cross the river I’ll fight the fight, life’s final war. And then as death gives way to victory I’ll see the light of glory and I’ll know He lives. We serve a loving God. We are not in this alone and that is why we can keep going in the face of fear and uncertain days. “Because He lives we can face tomorrow because He lives our fear is gone. Because we know He holds our future-our life is worth the living just because He lives”. Now as we count our blessings this year lets add just one more. “Because we know He holds the future. Our life is worth the living just because He lives.” “Happy Thanksgiving” NSS Brother Knights, I hope, if you came to the Anniversary Party, you had a great time. It was great fun and the food was some of the best BBQ I’ve had. With the party behind us, it’s on to the Membership drive. That is in November of course. We will need all of the best out there after each mass to drive in new Brother Knights. The dates are not set yet, but be ready. Challenge yourself to bring a new member in. Daylight savings time ends on the 2nd, and the election on the 4th. If you’re a 4th degree Knight, that meeting is the 11th. The regular business meeting in November will be the 12th and it will be held in the ED Building. Thanksgiving will be the 27th this year, with our Corporate Communion falling on the 30th. I hope all of you can make it along with our new members. It would be something to fill the church with Knights! God Bless Virgil Smith Deputy Grand Knight & Program Director October Meeting Lloyd Duronslet PGK $10.00 November Meeting = $10.00 Next month I will be sending out the member dues notifications for 2015. Again, as in past years, those who get their dues back prior to the January business meeting will be eligible for a drawing and the winner will have his dues refunded. In my August letter I stated that the billing process will be strictly adhered to this year. We have way too many people with accounts in arrears. This creates an impact on our budget as we are required to pay per-capita on every member on our roster. The process from First Billing to Suspension will be complete by the end of April 2015. If, for any reason you are not able to pay your yearly membership dues, please contact myself or another officer. If you need to make arrangements for quarterly payments, let me know. I just want to remind everyone that we have several events planned for this year and we need all of you to help out when you can. I hope to see all of you at the monthly business meetings. I told him anyone could win a debate for life over abortion with anyone in the world. There was one condition however. The person you debate would need to be intellectually honest for five minutes. His response was “I doubt they could be or would want to be.” The cold hard truth is we have the pictures and the videos of abortions taking place. No lie can change what you are looking at. You can’t debate or spin a video of an abortion taking place. All Pro-Choice can say is that you shouldn’t show that video or pictures. I have watched a video by The Center for Bio-Ethical Reform of abortions taking place. I had to stop the video a few times. It’s not easy to watch. It shows abortion for what it really is. The problem is that most people choose not to know and would not look at the pictures or watch the videos. This is a video you should not want to watch, but you should. It shows the hard truth of Abortion. Pro-Choice has been able to spin the truth and is still spinning the truth---It’s not a baby---it’s this or that---it’s a Choice---it’s your right---you hate woman---etc. You can’t say too much to anyone who chooses not to know truth. You can cast your vote, elections are this month. I’ll tell you a truth, if you want to end abortion you have to vote for the pro-life candidate. If you’re not sure about where your candidate stands on Pro-life issues, go on the internet (2014 Primary Voter Guides - California Pro-life Council). Thomas Nagle PGK Pro-Life Chairman [Truck – Boat – Rv – Trailer – etc.] To Your Council We (Your church) get the funds – You get the write-off CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHING (CST) # 4 (U.S. CATHOLIC BISHOPS) As Jesus taught us to bring glad tidings to the poor, CST#4 is built on a commitment to the needy. Pope Francis asks us to continue this mission in the Church. In our council we use as much as one-third of our funds from the Vehicle Donation Program to support HOPE (HELPING OTHER PEOPLE EVERYDAY), our parish outreach to the less fortunate in our area. Volunteers, including knights, reach out every week day. Knights use their own vehicles to truck food donations daily to HOPE. Brothers are officers and are deeply involved in HOPE. We also use funds from Pancake Breakfasts to support the Intellectually Disabled. Knights arrive before daylight to staff the kitchen for the meals, cooking, serving, and cleaning up later on. We support the Special Olympics with volunteer man hours and financial help. These are only a few of the ways we carry out our mission to the needy. Kass Council in Buena Park. Congratulations to Brothers, Darryl DuCharme and Joe Warner. Please welcome them at our next business meeting. On October 4th an Exemplification of the 4th Degree was held at the Irvine Marriott, congratulations to the new Sir Knights of our council, Sir Knights, Leo Fernandez, Kelechi Ukoha, Rafael Martinez and Chorme Thienngern. Please let me know if you want to take your 4th Degree, I had to do a little politicking to get 3 of these Sir Knights, so get your form in early. For those of you that missed our 30th Anniversary Dinner and Dance, you missed out on a good time. Thank you to our Deputy Grand Knight, Virgil Smith and his lovely wife Roxie who put in many hours in to the planning. I have planned three of these in the past, and it is not a walk in the park. The food was good along with the music and dance lessons. Thank you to our Brother Knights who helped set up, Lloyd Duronslet PGK, Ken Petterson PGK, Robert Marsh, and Rick Tkach, and myself. I do believe that everyone had a great time so look for our pictures on the web. Our council’s anniversary date is in March, but it is never too late to celebrate and in case you do not know it was chartered on March 12th, 1984. If you have a new candidate for our council please let me know, why, because he has to be interviewed. I have been told that they are no longer going to accept forms that have to be read at the 1st Degree’s. It has to be read at the council meeting. In looking at the council roster, there are many of you Brothers that need to take your 2nd and 3rd Degree’s. Normally those two Degrees are held on Saturday or Sunday. There are Brothers as far back as 2009 who are still 1st Degree or 2nd Degree members that is too long, so if you want to take those Degrees let me know. A 1st Degree is always held on the 3rd Monday of the month at Fr. Kass in Buena Park, unless we have one in our own council. The 2nd Degree is held every other month on Sunday’s at the same location. The 3rd Degree was just held, so no new date has been set for the next 3rd Degree. There are other councils that put on Degrees so I would have to get the dates posted by the Chapter. The next 2nd Degree will be on November 24th at Fr. Kass Council in Buena Park. Most, in fact, do not happen on the jobsite or place of employment. Did you know that a 2011 study revealed that more than 95 percent of the long-term disability claims on file were not work related? The Knights have always sought to protect members’ families from the “loss” of a breadwinner. I’m sure you know all about Father McGivney’s vision for our first, insurance program. But you may not know that Father McGivney also wanted to find a way to help members who couldn’t work because of an illness. After all, the “loss” of the breadwinner does not have to mean that person’s death; it can also mean the loss of the breadwinner’s income. Consider that loss for a moment. How would your family fare if a source of income suddenly stopped? Could a dual-income family manage on one income stream? What about young families with a working father and a mother who cares for the children? What if his income halted due to an accident or illness? I’ve heard some people say they have coverage at work, but too many aren’t sure what this coverage entails, how much income it would provide or for how long. Having this protection counts for something, certainly, but it isn’t “yours”; it’s provided by the company for which you work at their discretion. It could be eliminated tomorrow. That’s where a personally-owned disability income insurance product, like Income Armor, comes into play. It can offer valuable income replacement in the event of an injury or illness.. If you have a job, you must know about this coverage.
