ond goal.
“It was a big effort from everyone.
I am pretty sure all of my goals were
a product of everyone working together and passing the ball. Conor
Danik helped me on one,” Peterson
added.
The fun was not over when Jordan
Cimring crossed to Peterson, who
drilled a left-footer in for his “Hat
Trick” thus doubling his varsity output in goals this season.
“Jordan played JV with me last
year, so it’s good that him and I got to
get some stats for the season,”
Peterson said.
Danik scored the 10th goal when
SPF PAL Football Teams
Wrap Up Regular Season
The undefeated A team pulled off a
historical feat, while the D White
team prepared for the playoffs this
past Sunday when the Scotch PlainsFanwood PAL football teams
wrapped up their regular season in
Scotch Plains.
The A team defeated Perth Amboy,
16-0, finishing 7-0-1 and enabling
this group to end their PAL careers
with an undefeated record on their
home field.
Before this year, it is believed that
no SPF PAL team ever went through
five years without a home loss. These
Raiders amassed an overall record of
38-4-3.
The A team will clash again with
Perth Amboy in the opening round of
the New Jersey Suburban Youth Football League playoffs this Sunday in
Bloomfield at 2 p.m. The SPF D
White team will face Richmond Boro
in Staten Island. The D White team
fell to Richmond, 12-6, on September 28 in Scotch Plains.
The SPF PAL B team capped its
season with a 35-7 victory over
Springfield, the C team ended the
year with a 19-19 tie with Perth
Amboy, the E team scored three TDs
and shut out Perth Amboy, while the
D Blue team knocked off Springfield, 19-12, in Berkeley Heights.
QB Anthony Porter sparked the A
team with an 18-yard TD in the first
period then added a two-yard TD in
the final quarter. Porter set up the
game-clinching TD when he connected with Danny Wright for 23yards. Charlie Fugett followed the
TD with his conversion kick.
The Raiders tacked on two more
points when linebacker Alex Oslislo,
who earlier made a touchdown-saving tackle, sacked the Perth Amboy
QB in the end zone for a safety. The
Raider defense was led by cornerback
Jonathan Ranos (2 interceptions), and
tackles by Billy Root and Jay Jay
Sistrunk, end Tommy Nakonechny
and linebackers Noah Costanzo and
Ryan Johnson. Matt Fazzino boomed
a 63-yard punt that Stephen Oduro
downed at the one-yard line, a play
that set up the safety.
The 6-2 D White squad dominated
Perth Amboy behind Anthony
Robinson, Chase Alber, Ricky Watt,
Ben Cohen and Quinn Jackson, who
scored touchdowns. The stars on defense were Christian Tardi, Caleb
Jones, Michael Banic, Aidan
Robertson, Luka Culjak and Luke
Brencsons.
In the B Raiders were guided by
Aidan Guma, who ran TDs of five
and 15 yards, connected with Mark
Erickson for a 30-yard TD and added
an interception for a TD. Elisha Bryan
scored a TD, while Mike DiFrancesco
scored two conversions.
The Raider defense was led by Gus
Barco (8 solo tackles, 2 forced
fumbles), and Jake Hahn, Sean
Volkovic, Justin Clark, Colin
Fitzgerald, Matt Delgado, Nick Johns,
Eric Berkins, Nick Belford, Will
Watson, Chris Fugett and Zack Zaller.
The SPF C team managed to secure the trenches behind Alex
Werkheiser and Kyle Wester. Nick
Susino, Nate Sta Rosa, Ethan
Pawelec, Nick Desanto and Brighton
Easterling also contributed.
Offensively, Shawn Martin got solid
blocking from Brendan Ong on a 45yard TD run. He also scored on a 15yard screen pass from Hayden Widder.
Ryan Duthie managed to break to the
outside for 15 yards to the two as
Brian Roessle sealed off the defensive
end. From there, Widder bashed into
the end zone for the tying TD.
In the D Blue team’s triumph over
Springfield, Matt Power scored on
TD bursts of 25 and 60 yards and
threw a 25-yard TD to Jake Monroy.
Isiah Nathaniel kicked the extra point.
Ethan Costanzo, Mikey Kleopfer, Ben
Root, Robert Koch and Tommy
Wright added solid running with
sturdy blocking from Gabe Barco,
Russ Starosa, Aiden Fechter, Colin
Clarke, Connor Kent, Joshua
Sokolsky and Jacob Eitmanas.
The defense made a stance late in
the game to preserve the victory. Jake
DeGaetano, Jack Pares, Joe Monaco,
Thomas Savoca, Josh Madera, Omar
Casimiro, Luka Calligy, Aaron
Dance, Armani Adams and Jack
Burke added solid defense.
The E team received touchdowns
from Alden Nyamiaka, who took an
interception to the end zone, Jack
Fallo and Keere Rawles. These 4th
graders posted a shutout against Perth
Amboy behind Andrew Susino, Tahir
Wheeler and Amir Craford.

GREAT TACKLE...Colin Elliott wraps up Cranford’s running back in Westfield
PAL B’s 38-6 victory over Cranford.
WF PAL ‘B’ Team Defeats
Cranford Grid Kids, 38-6
The Westfield PAL “B” football
team tallied a 38-6 victory over
Cranford to finish the regular season
undefeated. The Blue Devils scored
five touchdowns and kicked four extra points to pace the team to the win.
In all, the Blue Devils amassed over
250 yards on the ground with Griffin
Rooney, Nick Martini, John Czarnecki
and DannyVarano all running for scores.
Bryan Felter kicked the extra points
with Colin Freer as the holder and Declan
McCauley as the long snapper.
As well as the offense performed,
the defense was also up to the task.
The Blue Devils recorded many great
tackles on its way to stifling
Cranford’s offense. Noteworthy plays
were by Doug Moore, Colin Elliott,
Brian Mikovits, Tristan Waddell, Joe
Muselli, Cooper Cox, Jacob
Harnisher, Jack Love, Timmy
Alliegro, Anthony Ricerca and Eric
Daaleman. Kevin Stokes also hauled
in an interception.
Next up for the Blue Devils is a trip
to the NJSYFL B division (7th grade)
playoffs.
“It is good when the kids are able to
put themselves in a position where
they are comfortable with the ball
and they can do some damage,” Coach
Rosenmeier said.
Defensively, Christiano had seven
tackles and assisted on six, while
Kevin Trotter made six tackles (2 for
a loss) and assisted on 13. Linebacker
Niko Cappello had an interception,
three tackles and assisted on seven.
Ahmad Davis had two tackles, assisted on three and added a fumble
recovery.
After the opening kickoff, the Cougars marched 88 yards on eight plays,
ending with Schetelich’s 36-yard
hookup with Christiano with 8:02 on
the clock. Christiano also scooted
left for the two-point conversion.
Cappello intercepted Policastro’s
pass at the Cranford 22 and returned
it to the 38, where Schetelich engineered a 10-play scoring drive when
DeLayo sped four yards for the TD
early in the second quarter. Norton’s
point after made the score 15-0.
A fumble recovery by Jim Longo
gave the Highlanders great field position at the Cranford 43 and they
capitalized with seven running plays,
ending with Marke’s 23-yard TD
gallop with 5:26 left in the half. An-
other Cougar fumble recovered by
Rob Dilly at the 37 gave GL great
field position once again, but they
failed to capitalize and Cranford took
over at the 30.
After two plays moved the Cougars back three yards, Schetelich fired
to Christiano, who then weaved his
way for a 73-yard TD with 1:47 remaining. This time Schetelich ran in
the two-point conversion.
After GL scored in the third quarter to remain in contention, the Cougars came right back when Christiano
returned the kickoff 54 yards to the
GL 36 then on the ninth play, Walker
plunged in from the three to make the
score 30-13.
The fourth quarter was ruled by
numerous penalties on both sides.
“It got sloppy for both teams at the
end. The lesson is that when you do
this in certain situations, you can’t
take it back. It’s going to impact the
game. Didn’t cost us the victory but it
certainly could cost us in the future,”
Coach Rosenmeier said.
The Cougars’ next future event will
be a home game against the North
Plainfield Canucks this Friday, November 7, at 7 p.m.
