Course details
Are you interested in a career in a justice related profession? Do you have an interest in law enforcement, a
desire to make a difference, and a strong people focus?
In this course you will learn about analysing crime, punishment and victimology, criminal law, evidentiary rules,
regulatory powers and correctional services. As well, this program will allow you to develop the skills and
knowledge required to seek selection into the Queensland Police Service.

Hours of study:
Orientation: 10.00am-4.00pm on Thursday 22 January 2015 at Southport, Level 4, Rooms 410/411.
This program involves classroom based delivery with classes held at Southport. Students will complete the
Certificate IV in the first 6 months (1 semester) and progress on to complete the Diploma subjects in the following
6 months (1 semester). Students will achieve the Diploma after 12 months of study. Classes are held on Thursday
8.00am-5.15pm and Friday 8.00am-3.00pm for the Certificate IV, and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 2.30pm6.45pm for the Diploma.
Students will attend 16 hours per week of classroom activity, with the requirement for additional hours of study,
research and assignments in your own time.
Resources required:
Students will need a 4GB USB drive.
If required, textbooks will be advised at Orientation.
Students are encouraged to bring their own laptop or portable device to class.

Entry into the Certificate IV should satisfy the entry requirements provided below:
successful completion of any Certificate III from the Business Services training package or
completion of Year 12 or equivalent with a sound achievement in English or
relevant work or life experience in the business or justice fields.
Entry into the Diploma should satisfy the entry requirements provided below:
successful completion of 39292QLD Certificate IV in Justice Studies or
39183QLD Certificate IV in Justice Administration or
BSB40110 Certificate IV in Legal Services or
any Certificate IV from the Business Services Training package plus completion of BSBLEG413A Identify and
apply the legal framework or
completion of Year 12 or equivalent with a sound achievement in English or
relevant work or life experience in the business or justice fields.
