Sanford Diabetes Symposium
This symposium is designed to enhance the knowledge and competence
of participants by providing an update on the latest research and
management of diabetes and subsequent complications. The target
audience includes nurses, advanced practice providers, primary care
physicians, diabetes educators, dietitians, and other interested health care
professionals.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to:
• Discuss the management of gestational diabetes.
• Explore future risk of diabetes due to gestational diabetes.
• Explain the role of pharmacists in the medical home model.
• Explore challenges associated with medication compliance in patients with diabetes.
• Examine the relationship between eye health and diabetes.
• Explore treatment options for diabetic eye disease.
• Discuss the importance of early recognition and foot screenings of patients with diabetes.
•Describe common concerns associated with the feet of patients with diabetes.
• Discuss the connection between eating disorders and diabetes.
• Compare and contrast new devices used to assist patients in the management of their diabetes.
• Explore how technological applications can be used in diabetes management.
•Describe the role of the diabetes educator in the team management of diabetes.
• Discuss how patient outcomes are affected by involvement of a diabetes educator.
