The Pacific Viewer,

“In all my prayers for all of you, I
always pray with joy because of your
partnership in the gospel from the
first day until now, being confident of
this, that he who began a good work
in you will carry it on to completion
until the day of Christ Jesus. It is
right for me to feel this way about all
of you, since I have you in my heart...
(Philippians 4-7a)
In 1955, a group of Christians responded to the call to start a church
in Solana Beach. The call to reach
people for Christ, teach the Word,
Disciple the faithful to continue the
work through the Spirit of Christ
there in Solana Beach and the surrounding communities. Then they
had to change. They moved to Cardiff and since then the church has
always been a growing changing part
of the Body of Christ. Changes like
location, buildings, leadership and
even their name. Now the Spirit has
led “His Family Forever” ministry that
started 59 years ago, to change
again. For now the church will expand its First Baptist of Solana
Beach, First Southern Baptist of Cardiff, and Pacific View Baptist Church
to become Shadow Mountain Community Church – Encinitas.
There have been 12 pastors who
have been called to minister for the
past 59 years. Ten pastors who
served an average of 2.5 years and
two pastors who served 12 plus
years in helping lead the church
through the many changes of the
community and the cultural changes
that were going on around them.
White shirt and ties, leisure suits,

long and short hair, piano, organ,
drums, guitars, choirs, and praise
teams caused the church to change
to reach this community. Since our
Lord has planted and blessed His
ministry through these many years,
He also desires us to continue by
making changes once again. I believe this is the reason God is taking
His Family Forever’s love and bringing in the strength of His Shadow
Mountain Family together and mixing them here in Encinitas. Thus it
will bring more opportunities for our
church that started those 59 years
ago. I believe those early saints will
be honored to see the work become
even stronger and equipped to do
even more work here.
I know that mixing a new ministry
isn’t easy and mixing the right ingredients is very important. In seeking
our Lord together on what recipe
was best, we found there were different kinds of ingredients available.
Finding one that can mix with our
“senior” love of Christ and help enhance it without losing it, was a
challenge.
Yet, God showed that there was
a senior loving and a strong multiministry to all the ages to be the
best ingredient to be mixed with.
He even is showing how a good results could be made even quicker,
than all the other ways we were
looking and praying for. Listen, this
really was, I truly believe, a God
thing recipe. One that has Shadow
Mountain mixing us with them that
continues for the Kingdom’s work
here in this area.
This even shows why the Lord has
blessed us with facilities and the
land we have. Now the property has
even a brighter future to be fully
used to fulfill the dreams that was
cast by those who have gone before
us.

ow Mountain recipe and ingredients. Shadow Mountain’s recipe
needs and desires that all seek
ways to mix and find ministry opportunities. It’s known that God has
used Shadow Mountain’s recipe
successfully and it’s respected here
in San Diego. It has been blessed
by special men of God with Dr. David Jeremiah as the lead pastor.
NOW that our Lord is leading us to
this exciting changing future, here is
the planned schedule. The “Softstart” is planned for either November 16 or the 23rd. This means that
new worship, leadership, new equipment, and lots of other changes will
be basically in place. Patience is
needed so that the ministry will be
in place for the expected larger attendance at the new Encinitas campus. The “Soft-start” is the mixing
and gelling of new faces, leadership, and new ministries to be ready
for the public launch that will take
place later. This also means it
needs all our prayers and our support in our giving to the Lord for this
campus.
As mentioned, there have been 12
pastors who have lead changes in
the ministry here in Cardiff/ Encinitas. It is now time for the 13th Dr.
David Jeremiah, and the 14th to
come shepherd and lead His people
here. The 14th will be a new campus
pastor, yet to be named, with the
energy and spiritual wisdom to
guide and love all who seek to serve
him at this church campus.
My time as pastor of Pacific View
will be closing and changing.
How I will be ministering whether
here or elsewhere is in our Lord’s
hand. I ask that you pray for me as
I seek His ways to serve Him. The
above scripture best describes how
I feel and I’m grateful to see this
exciting new change for His church,
Yet, it does mean the Family Forev- His Family forever! AMEN!

A Joyful Sadness
I can remember it all like it was yesterday…
In 1955 I was 8 years old as my mother (Retta
McMichael) walked me up the steps of the Solana
Beach home that the original 13 Charter
Members of this church met with their families.
When this property was purchased and
construction began on the current church, they
ran a hose down the hill from the Denny’s house
on Windsor Dr. to provide water to the workers.
On November 18 th of 1956, 58 years ago, I was
baptized into this church by our first Pastor
Sherrel Hall.
The first weddings in this church joining Jim and
Relda Colvin in 1957...and my own in 1965.
Attending Girls Auxiliary (GA’s) and teasing the
boys attending Royal Ambassadors (RA’s)!
My own children attending Vacation Bible School.
Congregation dinners, Easter egg hunts,
Christmas services and baptisms...as well as
many funerals, including my Mother’s almost two
years ago.
Page 3
I am met with mixed emotions as these memories
sweep through my mind knowing that ‘change’ is
once again upon us. And being a Founding
Member, I wasn’t sure how my Mother would feel
about it. But upon further reflection, I realized all
of the ‘changes’ my Mother saw at this church over
all the years she faithfully attended. When asked,
she would somewhat boastfully say, “I had to train
11 Pastors”, and she loved each and every one of
them! As we now become a satellite of Shadow
Mountain Community Church, I believe she would
embrace the opportunity for this church to grow
and minister on a much larger scale to the
community that she loved so much. So as it is sad
for me to say goodbye to Pacific View, I also look
forward to new beginnings and opportunities with
Shadow Mountain. There’s an old saying, “if nothing ever changed, there’d be no butterflies.”
I have been your Secretary for almost 16 years and
it has been my pleasure to serve you. You gave me
a safe-haven to grow in the Lord and serve; and I
will always be grateful for that. I now look forward
to the new leadership and continuing to serve any
way I can. Although I will not be your Secretary, I
am not going anywhere. I am going to enjoy my
retirement and philanthropic endeavors. I also
look forward to many more joyful times. As a
congregation, we have many more memories to
make as Shadow Mountain Encinitas Campus!
