For the Annual Business Dinner the Leadership Team will provide the
main entrée, bread and drinks. The congregation is asked to bring a
dish to share … if your last name begins with A-L bring a dessert and
M-Z bring a salad or side dish. Childcare will be available for children
under the age of six. Please sign up on the Communication Card if
you plan to attend the dinner and if you’ll need childcare. Copies of
the business agenda and deacon bios are available at the Info Desk.
The church parking lots (Main Street and
Liberty Street spaces for disabled) will be
paved on Thursday, Nov. 13 and Friday,
Nov. 14. On site parking will be OFF LIMITS
on those two days. Please use street parking
and the overflow parking lot on Liberty Street. Thank you
for your cooperation.
It is difficult to believe we are 11 days away
from ending our Operation Christmas Child
Campaign! Thank you to all who donated soap,
washcloths,
combs,
toothpaste
and
toothbrushes. There is still time to donate.
Please bring all items to the Missions Table in
the elevator foyer. Don’t forget to pick up a shoebox to fill
yourself and return to the Missions Table by Sunday morning,
Nov. 16. Remember to include $7 per box for shipping.
It’s time to think about your offering
envelopes for next year. Please notify Cindy
Kite ([email protected] or 433-2456) of
your choice or indicate your choice on the
Communication Card. Option 1 is for weekly
givers; Option 2 is for monthly givers; and
Option 3 is to “opt out” of receiving offering
envelopes.

texts, emails, phone calls and meals
following my surgery. Randy and I are so
thankful and appreciative of the many
ways that our church family supported us

fellowship hall. All are invited to come help us pack shoeboxes!
Do you have a pleasant smile and a warm
handshake? If so, you are just the right
person HBC is looking for to help greet
people on Sunday mornings. You can greet
the service you attend and it only
requires being on duty at one of the doors
prior to the worship service at least two
times in a 4-5 month period. A "first impression welcome" to
a visitor is a very important factor in if they will return. Won’t you
volunteer to become a welcoming face for HBC? For more info or

The Staff Christmas Fund allows the congregation to
express appreciation to the staff at Christmas for
their work throughout the year. Donations will be
collected through Monday, Dec. 8. Specially marked
envelopes are located in the pews.
The HBC Youth Group is sponsoring a second
Parent’s Night Out on Friday, Dec. 12 from
5:30–
5:30– 9:30 p.m. at the church. Children birth to
fifth grade are invited to an evening of
Christmas fun. Parents can enjoy a relaxing
evening or do some Christmas shopping. Sign
ups will begin soon!
On Student Day at Christmas (Sunday, Dec. 28) we recognize in the
bulletin college students who make HBC their home church. Please
contact Amy at [email protected] or note on the Communication Card
the student’s name and the college attending. Just a reminder there
will be only one worship service at 11:10 a.m. on Dec. 28 … no 9 a.m.
worship service and Sunday School classes.

Goodness, how time flies! Here we are once
again heading toward the end of another
year. And the Finance Committee has been
hard at work making sure the financial future
of HBC is realistic enough to be achieved in
2015 and yet ample enough to meet all the
needs of our ministries. That’s no easy chore!
Work began on the 2015 budget back
in August and will continue until the budget is voted on by the
congregation at the Annual Business Dinner and Meeting on Nov. 16.
The Finance Committee has strived to put together a budget that
prepares for the hiring of a new senior pastor and for anticipated
growth in 2015. Thanks to the Finance Committee for their hard work

celebrating “Birthday of the King”
with Christmas stories, crafts, games, music, snacks and video.
Parents or guardians are welcome to join the musical closing at
11:50 a.m. in the sanctuary. Children will be released to their parent
or guardian at 12 noon at the close of our celebration of Jesus’
Birthday Party Program in the sanctuary.

paper registration is available at the Info Desk. If you would like to
volunteer to help with this exciting ministry sign up on the
Communication Card or contact Cathy Lawrence at 433-2089.

The Adult Christmas Cantata, “Images of
Adoration,” will be presented during both
worship services on Sunday, Dec. 7. This year
the congregation will be asked to participate.
We often ask ourselves, “How can we bring
gifts to the Christ child as the wise men did?”
Here’s one way … Bethany United Methodist
Church (Cindy Kite’s home church) has a food pantry opened every
Monday and serves a hot meal every third Monday. We are asking
that you bring a canned food or boxed item on the morning of the
cantata for their food pantry. You will bring your items up and place
in a box during the cantata. Thank you in advance for “helping the
least of these my brethren.”
Annual Christmas Dinner and Children’s Program
Wednesday, Dec. 10
6 p..m.
The Christmas dinner will once again be catered by Mrs.
Rowe’s Restaurant. The menu includes roast turkey with
dressing, gravy, cranberry sauce, sweet potato casserole,
green beans, rolls and pumpkin bars. Tickets are required to
be purchased in advance on Sunday mornings and will be on
sale beginning Sunday, Nov. 16. The cost is $10 per person with
a $40 maximum per family. Following the dinner the AWANA
children will perform their Christmas musical “Glory to God in
the Highest,” in the sanctuary.
The church office will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24—Friday, Dec. 26
for Christmas and closed on Thursday, Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day.

involved in and give back to the
community this holiday season? Open
Doors is looking for volunteer help
during the week of Thanksgiving. Open
Doors formerly known as Harrisonburg
and Rockingham Thermal Shelter (HARTS) is a homeless shelter hosted by
several local churches from November through March.
If you would be interested in helping that week, especially in providing
volunteer time and a Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, Nov. 27, please call
Open Doors at 540-578-3868 or email [email protected]. The
holiday season can be very hard for those who have no home to go to and
no family to spend the holidays with. Let's come together to offer
friendship, warmth and support to those who need it most.
Matt Lohr is the deacon of the week for Nov. 9. He has been a
member since 1997. He has two children, Caroline and Carson.
Matt is director of the Knowledge Center of Farm Credit of the
Virginias. He is chair of the Leadership Team.
Ron Smith is the deacon of the week for Nov. 16. He and his
wife, Mary, have been church members since 2011. Ron is a
native of Rockingham County. He is a former school principal.
Ron is a Sunday School teacher and member of the Adult Choir.
