A WORD FROM DOUG...
How often has something happened in your life that
changed just about everything you did? And what if
that change hadn’t just happened – it was caused by
a conscious decision – to follow God’s will, even if
you know that it will create drastic changes in your
life, in your hopes and in your dreams…

at Crievewood!
Hanging of the Green Celebra on Well – that happened to us. I know that not all of you
are football fans (though I pray that you will be
enlightened one day) but the Duty family are more
than fans – we live it. Our son, Aron was the
consummate football player. He learned plays faster
than he learned homework. For ten years he played
it, coached it, lived it, learned it, and breathed it. He
had placed his future and stake in life on playing pro
ball.
That may not mean much too you – but try
substituting your dreams and ambition into the same
passion – doing it, living it, sleeping it – even banking
on it. Then amid all that – take a year off. Yep, just
set it all aside – the “dreams,” the opportunities and
the passion. Now – do it because God calls you to
do something else for awhile. My son set aside a
year of playing football because he felt God calling
him to reach children/young youth and teach them
about Jesus.
A similar event happened in Jesus’ ministry on earth.
A young man who had it all: money, wealth, position.
It wasn’t just a dream of his, he was living it out. He
asked Jesus what he needed to do “inherit eternal
life.” And Jesus hit him directly at the heart.
“Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be complete, go
and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and
you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow
Me." Matthew 19:21
No, it wasn’t about the money. It was about what the
young man treasured more than God. It was about
his unwillingness to give up “his” dreams, his life, and

even dearer than God, or in his case… not.

The time is fast approaching for our annual drive to
collect new items to be given away to families at the
NBA Toy Store at Shelby Avenue Baptist Church. We
will be providing new toys, games, books, underwear,
clothes, stocking stuffers and fruit to each child and
family that is qualified to shop at our Toy Store.
As you are out shopping this year, be on the lookout for
these items that are on sale or seem to be a good price.
We will be collecting these items at the Hanging of the
Green and until the actual date of the Toy Store. A bin
will be in the hall by the elevator on the first floor.
Although, we have many volunteers from Crievewood
working the entire set-up and the week it is open, we
need more to help shoppers thru the store. The hours
are from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. If you could only give
a couple of hours on one of these days, it would be
really appreciated.

East Asia Missionary to be at Crievewood

Ben and Shellie serve with the International Mission
Board (IMB) in East Asia. They have been stateside,
living in Judson’s missionary house for 6 months.
Before they return to the field, Shellie will be at
Crievewood on two occasions. Women: Shellie will
share with us in the Craft Room, on Tuesday night,
December 2 at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome to come
and hear. Parents: On Wednesday night, December
3 at 6:00p.m., Shellie will be sharing with the GAs
and maybe the RAs, also. She will tell how she felt
God calling her to missions while being a part of GAs
in her church. Therefore, she looks for opportunities
to share with GAs.
Shellie is the mother to three elementary age
children. They have been a part of the Classical
Conversations Home School group which meets at
Crievewood on Mondays. We will find her energetic
and excited to tell how the Lord is working in her life
and life of her family as they return to East Asia
January 1, 2015. When our Week of Prayer begins
you will want to pay special attention to Day Seven,
which features Ben and Shellie’s work for the Lord in
East Asia.
The story goes on to say that – “But when the young
man heard this statement, he went away grieved; for
he was one who owned much property.” (verse 22)
All that he held dear – he wasn’t willing to give it up to
do what God was calling him to do. It was hard, it
would impact all that he was doing in his life, all that
he had hung his hat on. And the result, he left miserable.
My son took a year off from all that he had held dear
as a life passion (a favorite saying of ours was –
“Jesus Christ is life, everything else is football.”) It
was a hard choice. He did go back to football, even
college football (a severe concussion {#4} ended
that). But even that sent him to his real passion,
serving the community, helping and protecting others.
What he thought would be a dream life, turned into
his dream – only a greater dream that God planned,
and he is far more satisfied.
The question I want you to think about is the same
question that Jesus asks the young ruler. Will you
leave what you call “valuable,” what you hold dear to
do what God is calling you to do? What is it that you
hear God calling you to do? It could be the difference
between a life of satisfaction – and a life of grief.

$10 each and will be on display in the sanctuary
during the Christmas season. You are welcome to
take your poinsettia following the Christmas Eve
Candlelight Service on December 24.
Pies for the Nashville
Rescue Mission
As Thanksgiving Day approaches
and we are reminded to be
thankful for all our blessings and as we look for others
to bless, please plan to donate pies. Please bring pies
to the Welcome Center by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday,
November 25. The Mission serves Thanksgiving meals
on Wednesday and Thursday. Lots of people come to
eat so lots of desserts are needed.

Fellowship Hall
All women are invited to attend the fellowship and
meeting of the Women on Mission. We begin each
meeting with coffee and fellowship at 9:30 a.m.
At 10:00 a.m., following the fellowship time, we will
be studying about a decision facing every believer “I
Will Serve.” The scripture passage for this study is
found in Joshua 24:1-28.
Come and join in the fellowship and learning together. These passages give us an indication of the
choice we made when we accepted Christ and chose
to follow His leadership. The question is asked, “Will
we serve the Lord?”

Shoeboxes ready to pick up

A small shoebox can have a big
impact. What goes into the box is fun, but what comes
out of it is eternal. You can be a part of changing
children’s lives all over the world in Jesus’ Name
through the power of a simple gift with Operation
Christmas Child. Fill your
shoeboxes with small toys
such as dolls, yo-yos, balls, jump ropes, coloring books
and stickers; candy (except chocolate); hygiene items
such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes and wash
clothes; clothing items such as socks and gloves;
school supplies such as pencils, writing pads, markers,
pencil sharpeners and scissors.
You can even build your own shoebox online if you are
short on time. Also, if you have ever wanted to know
the destination of your shoebox, you can donate online
and follow your shoebox.
We only have a few weeks left. Please consider
adding one more box this year and bless a child with
gifts and more importantly, the gospel.
