I²MINE - novative Technologies and Concepts for the Intelligent
Deep Mine of the Future
Objective: The project will focus on the technological challenges the mining industry is currently facing including the
exploitation of ever deeper deposits and the aspiration for an invisible, safe, zero impact mine. 26 companies and academic
institutions from 10 European countries led by LKAB over a period of 4 years. The mine of the future will exploit mineral raw
materials at greater depths than today, requiring completely different approaches compared to today’s deep mines, in order
to get mineral rights. Only these eco-efficient mines will contribute to improved access to domestic mineral resources, secure
the supply of mineral raw materials for Europe and reduce the import dependency. IntelliMine will contribute to realise these
concepts of invisible, zero-impact and safe mines.

Developing methodologies to reduce
inequities in the determinants of health
•
Syfte: Evaluating the impact of structural policies on health inequalities and their social determinants and
fostering change. Health inequalities are unfair and avoidable differences in health between population
groups defined socially, economically, demographically or geographically. They are strongly affected by the
circumstances in which people are born, grow, live, work and age, and by the policies influencing these
circumstances. SOPHIE aims to generate new evidence on the impact of structural policies on health
inequalities, and to develop innovative methodologies for the evaluation of these policies in Europe.
Particular attention will be put in increasing the involvement of affected stakeholders (civil society and
deprived population groups) in the identification, design and evaluation of policies to tackle health
inequalities.

BRISK - The European Research Infrastructure for
Thermochemical Biomass Conversion

Objective: Enhancing biomass utilization without risking its sustainability is a European energy priority, and can be
linked to targets for curbing greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by 2020 and 50% by 2050: enhanced energy security
and integration with other industrial sectors, such as agriculture, also play a role. Improved use of biofuels and products
in advanced biomass conversion units and biorefineries are seen as a key element in achieving this goal.


The Horizon 2020 Programme strongly supports the three strategic priorities
Digitalisering
Open innovation is about combining diverse sources of knowledge to innovate, underpinned by
networked, multi-collaborative innovation systems and involving researchers, entrepreneurs,
investors, users, governments and civil society. Favouring Open innovation means encouraging
the capitalisation of results from European research and innovation.
Open Science includes moving forward on the need for more open access to research results
and the underlying data. It also means the need for new initiatives to strengthen research
integrity for policy makers, research funders, research institutions and researchers.
Globalisering
Open to the World means to engage more in science diplomacy and in global scienti fic and
technological collaboration to remain relevant and competitive, and to lead the way in
developing global research and innovation partnerships to address global challenges.
