Infrastructure priority
One of the key priorities since becoming Mayor has been
to invest in local infrastructure for the present and for the
future.
Council has invested in the City's future by building new
car parks at Canley Vale (56 spaces) and at Canley
Heights (38 spaces). Plans are in hand to provide an extra
39 car parking spaces at 24-30 Barbara St, Fairfield and,
at Wilson Rd Reserve, about 35 spaces will be built.
Construction has started on a 180-space commuter car
park as part of the upgrade to Canley Vale Railway Station.
This is a joint project between Council, as the land owner,
and Transport for NSW.
In Canley Heights, 60 extra parking spaces will be built
(subject to approval) at Derby Street laneway (20 spaces),
Peel Street laneway (20 spaces) and Ascot Street laneway
(20 spaces).
In Cabramatta, work will soon start on an upgraded car
park in Dutton Lane, which will provide shoppers with 275
undercover and secure car parking spots, increasing the
total car parking in the precinct to 880 spaces.
While this work takes place, I invite shoppers to use the
state-of-the-art, 179-space car park at Fisher Street, which
is an easy two-minute walk to Cabramatta town centre.
Of course, there is always the Council's free City Connect
bus service for those who don't want to bring their car into
the Town Centre. City Connect was established to provide
a free mode of transportation for our community, to better
connect them to facilities and amenities around our City.
It is about providing better access for residents who live in
areas where public transport is poor.
City Connect also helps alleviate congestion across
Fairfield City by freeing up existing parking.
I have been advocating for Transport for NSW to open a
dialogue with Council for the development of commuter car
parking in Hill Street, Cabramatta.
For our part, Council has spent more than $9 million in the
past four years delivering retail car parking facilities in the
Cabramatta Town Centre. There are now more than 3,000
car park spaces available.
Council has resolved to
make the necessary land
at the Hill Street location
available, free of charge, to
the State Government. The

GOUGH WHITLAM REMEMBERED
On Wednesday, 5 November, Fairfield City paid tribute
to the Honourable Edward Gough Whitlam AC QC by
screening the State Memorial Service in Freedom Plaza,
Cabramatta. Cabramatta was the third live stream location,
in addition to Sydney and Federation Square, Melbourne.
Gough Whitlam had close ties to the Cabramatta
community, living on Albert St, Cabramatta, from 1957 in a
house that still stands today. He represented Cabramatta in
the electorate of Werriwa for more than 25 years.

Unwanted chemicals were disposed of safely at the Household
Chemical CleanOut.
Applications are now open for the hire of sportsfields during
winter 2015.
RESIDENTS FLOCKED TO CHEMICAL CLEANOUT
More than 750 residents braved the heat on Sunday,
26 October, to bring 39.4 tonnes of waste to Fairfield
Showground for the annual Household Chemical
CleanOut. That averaged a massive 52.42kg average per
car! This was an increase of 40 respondents and 9 tonnes
from 2013. The Household Chemical CleanOut allowed for
the free, safe disposal of a range of common household
chemicals that could cause harm to human health and the
environment if not disposed of correctly.
COUNCIL'S COMMUNITY FACILITIES OPEN FOR HIRE
Fairfield City's halls, sportsfields and community buses
are open for regular hire in 2015. This includes the use
of sportsgrounds for the winter 2015 season. Interested
parties are encouraged to submit their applications soon
to avoid disappointment. For a copy of the application form
and closing dates, please contact Council's Community
Facilities Coordinator on 9725 0222. Casual bookings can
continue to be made as required by contacting Council's
Customer Service Centre.
