Philip Neri & guests are invited to a presentation by Fr. Bernard de Margerie
who will story tell and describe something of his vocation to, and journey in,
the ministry of reconciliation and unity in the Church, for over 50 years in
the Diocese of Saskatoon. He will explore the meaning and purpose of his
recently published book In God’s Reconciling Grace. The presentation will
take place in the Welcome Area of St. Philip’s church on Wed, Nov 19
starting at 7:00 pm.
Ecumenical Service to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Vatican II's
Decree on Ecumenism.
A service of celebration will be held at 7 pm, Friday, November 21 at
St. Philip Neri Parish. All are welcome. A wine and cheese reception will
follow. This worship service is hosted by the Prairie Centre for Ecumenism
on the actual anniversary date (Nov. 21, 1964) of the key Vatican II text on
the restoration of unity, Unitatis Redintegratio, the Decree on Ecumenism.
Document Excerpts for 50th Anniversary
Nov. 21, 2014, marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Second Vatican Council’s
Decree on Ecumenism, Unitatis Redintegratio. This document affirmed and
strengthened the Catholic Church’s commitment to the ecumenical movement,
which the Council described as being “the initiatives and activities planned and
undertaken” to promote Christian unity (UR, 4). The following is a quotation
taken from this document:
“While it is true that many Christians understand the moral teaching of the Gospel
differently from Catholics, and do not accept the same solutions to the more
difficult problems of modern society, nevertheless they share our desire to stand
by the words of Christ as the source of Christian virtue, and to obey the command
of the Apostle: "And whatever you do, in word or in work, do all in the name of
the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God the Father through Him" (Col. 7, 57).
- Decree on Ecumenism, para. 23.
NOTE: The Catholic Bishops of Canada have issued a new document entitled
“A Church in Dialogue” to coincide with the anniversary. Find a PDF of the document at www.cccb.ca

Sunday Smile - The farmer's son was returning from the
market with a crate of chickens his father had entrusted to him,
when all of a sudden the box fell of his wagon and broke open.
Chickens scurried off in different directions, but the determined
boy walked all over the neighborhood, looking far and wide,
scooping up the wayward birds and returning them to the repaired
crate. Unsure whether he had found them all, the boy reluctantly
returned home. "Pa, the chickens got loose," the boy confessed
sadly, "but I managed to find twelve of them." "Well, you did a
good job, son," the farmer beamed. "You only started with seven."
