• All six companies have global non-discrimination policies, but not all are consistently
applied globally.
• Some companies have used Provision 377 as a “springboard” for employee
communications and engagement.
• Allies play a critical role in advancing workplace equality in India.
Don’t use the term “straight ally”.
• Best practices include the Community Business guidebook, “Pride Speaks” workshops at
Thomson Reuters, IBM’s “Ally Guide” and 15 minute on-line training module.
• Education and personal stories are critical. “There are no gay people in India.”
There are no “silver bullets”.
