happiness in your life; measure the level
of discipline in your life. (pg. 248)

Bring your gift; place it in the Sanctuary.

The genius of God is simplicity. If you
wish to tap into the wonder of God, apply
simplicity to your life & to your prayer. (pg. 255)
Fasting is to the body what prayer is to the
soul. Indeed fasting is the prayer of the body, &
bodily fasting leads to spiritual fasting. (pg. 256)
It is important to recognize that not all forms
of fasting involve food. You can fast from
judging others, cursing or complaining. (pg. 257 )

St. Rita youth, Trey LaNasa , is national finalist for Wendy’s High School Heisman Award
“ Fort Walton Beach High School senior, Trey
LaNasa is congratulated by Ed Sheffield of
Wendy’s restaurants for being selected as one
of 12 national finalists for the Wendy’s High
School Heisman Award. LaNasa was surprised
Monday in the cafeteria by family, his coach and
school staff who announced he was selected
from 20,000 applicants. (Devon Raine/Daily News)

By KATIE TAMMEN | Daily News Published: Monday, November 10, 2014 at 03:46 PM.
FORT WALTON BEACH — Trey LaNasa could rationalize away his principal’s insistence to meet with him at
lunch and he could even justify the sudden presence of the drum line in the cafeteria.
The moment the podium came out, he thought he knew what was next.
He didn’t.
The Fort Walton Beach High School senior was stunned into silence when Principal Charlene Couvillon broke
the news about the Wendy’s High School Heisman competition.
“Trey is one of the six male finalists in the nation,” Couvillon said. “I want to personally thank Trey for bringing
this honor to Fort Walton Beach High School.”
Trey was chosen from a field of 20,000 applicants, then 900 state finalists, then 102 finalists, which was then
narrowed down to six boys and six girls. The winner will be announced in New York City during a special on
ESPN 2 next month.
The student body president and cross country team captain couldn’t quite keep the stunned look from his face
in the minutes after the announcement. “Oh my Lord!” Trey repeated over and over.
Trey had received a text message from Niceville High School’s Catherine Escoffier, who was a state finalist,
saying he’d won at the state level, but he didn’t dream he’d make it to the final round.
“I’m just, I’m just in awe right now,” he said. His parents, Tony and
Terry Sue LaNasa, found out about it last week and couldn’t wait for
their son to find out. “Trey’s a great kid,” Tony LaNasa said.
“He’s always been very active with his school.”
WHAT’S NEXT?
An ESPN crew will follow Trey around
this week for the December television
special to announce the winner.
He plans to study mechanical engineering and run in college. He hasn’t selected a school yet, but he’s
considering Auburn University and the University of Florida. The 18-year-old said he wouldn’t be up for the
national award if it weren’t for his family, his coaches and a supportive school administration. “It’s a blessing
to have so many people on your side,” he said.”
