We anticipate, we watch, we try to glimpse the first signs of the holiday, birthday, or first day of vacation. These are important to us, and we don’t want to miss them. “Stay alert,” Paul says to us. “Prepare for the Master’s return,” Jesus says to us. At the end of the Church year, everything is about watchfulness. We reflect on the end times, when Christ will return in glory to judge the living and the dead and draw all creation to himself. What happens in the end? We show God what we’ve done with his many gifts. We behave as children of light and refuse to fall asleep (a metaphor for turning away from God) so we’ll be found waiting when Christ comes again. We keep the faith, knowing our hope is in the Lord. OUR LADY of CONSOLATION MARY IMMACULATE, our Mother and Consolation, with confidence I take refuge in your most loving Heart. You shall be the dearest object of my love and veneration. I shall always have recourse to you who are the dispenser of the treasures of heaven, that I may have peace in my sorrows, light in my doubts, protection in my dangers, and help in all my needs. When we were children, the temptation to fall asleep was great; we didn’t always make it to the first minutes of celebration. Be therefore my refuge, strength, and consolation, O Mary the Consoler. As adults in faith, the stakes are much higher. If we fall asleep here, we may miss the party altogether. Let’s encourage one another while we still have time. Mary Katharine Deeley sundaybulletin@ liguori.org -SUNDAY SOCIAL : take time to meet your fellow parishioners and visitors to the Cathedral. STEW ARDSHIP REFLECTION In today’s Gospel, Jesus delivers the parable of the talents; using the exam ple of m oney rather than abilities or skills. It’s a story about investm ents, risks and returns. Stewards understand that God has given them an abundance of spiritual gifts. They know God doesn’t want them to sim ply receive these blessings and bury them in fear, but to m ultiply them ; to use these gifts to serve Him and others; to spread Christ’s Good News; to go and m ake disciples of others. Good stewards invest what God has given them in the service of others and are prepared to render an account when the Lord returns. Reflect this week on how you are returning your own God-given gifts back to G od with increase.
