Psalm 100
Ephesians 1.15-23
Matthew 25.31-46
Paul encourages the Thessalonians to
remember that the day of the Lord
‘will come like a thief in the night’. In
this passage full of expectation for the
second coming, it is noteworthy that
Paul envisions two options. Either one
is a person of the day, which requires
vigilance and preparation, or one
belongs to the night and is oblivious.
In a world characterized by growing
conflict and harsh economic
inequalities, the temptation to be
lulled to sleep is great. Whether the
second coming is imminent or not,
vigilance is required in order to live
faithfully in the world.

Prayer of the Day
Everliving God,
before the earth was formed,
and even after it shall cease to be, you are God.
Break into our short span of life
and show us those things that are eternal,
that we may serve your purpose in all we do;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you in unity with the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

St Saviour’s Cathedral Hymns
16th November 2014
Gradual Hymn
Jesus, united by thy grace
And each to each endeared,
With confidence we seek thy face,
And know our prayer is heard.
Help us to help each other, Lord,
Each other’s cross to bear,
Let each his friendly aid afford
And feel his brother's care.
Up into thee, our living Head,
Let us in all things grow,
And by thy sacrifice be led
The fruits of love to show.
This is the bond of perfectness,
Thy spotless charity;
O let us, still we pray, possess
The mind that was in thee.

St Saviour’s Cathedral Hymns
16th November 2014
Offertory Hymn
All my hope on God is founded
He doth still my trust renew.
Me through change and chance he guideth,
Only good and only true.
God unknown,
He alone
Calls my heart to be his own.
Pride of man and earthly glory,
Sword and crown betray his trust;
What with care and toil he buildeth,
Tower and temple, fall to dust.
But God’s power,
Hour by hour,
Is my temple and my tower.
God’s great goodness ay endureth,
Deep his wisdom passing thought:
Splendour, light and life attend him,
Beauty springeth out of naught.
Evermore
From his store
Newborn worlds rise and adore.
Daily doth the Almighty giver
Bounteous gifts on us bestow;
His desire our soul delighteth,
Pleasure leads us where we go.
Love doth stand
At his hand;
Joy doth wait on his command.
Still from man to God eternal
Sacrifice of praise be done,
High above all praises praising
For the gift of Christ his Son.
Christ doth call
One and all:
Ye who follow shall not fall.

St Saviour’s Cathedral Hymns

Final Hymn
In faith and hope and love
With joyful trust we move
Towards our Father’s home above.
Christ, our star, our map, our road
To the Father’s high abode.
Christ, our bread along the way;
Christ our rescue when we stray.
Christ our shelter, Christ our friend,
Our beginning and our end.
Christ, our hope our reward;
Our redeemer and our Lord.

Outreach Poster November 2014
Jesus’ challenge to love your enemies and pray for
those who persecute you was unsettling to his hearers
and is difficult for us today as we consider the threat of
ISIS who have declared to be our enemy.
How can we love those who commit atrocities?
The starting point is to pray for them; to pray that they may discover the love of Jesus and
turn from harming others to loving those whom they regard as enemies. We, too, can pray
that God may help us to be more like Jesus by growing in our love for those whom we find
difficult to love.
