Come, Ye Thankful People, Come
*Prayer of the People
Extravagant, generous giver of all good things,
just as you brought the Israelites
into a land flowing with milk and honey—
a land where they could be free
from bondage and oppression,
you have brought us into this good land—
a land with flowing streams,
with springs and underground waters
welling up in valleys and hills,
a land of wheat and corn, of fertile plains,
and majestic mountains.
We give you thanks:
for the bounty that fills our tables,
for the water that satisfies our thirst,
for the beauty of this land
where we are free to worship you
in the name of Jesus, who is the Christ. Amen.

Deuteronomy 8
2 Corinthians 9, Luke 17
Generous Healer of all who ask for mercy,
you alone supply seed to those who sow
and turn it into bread for food.
Accept our gifts for the needs of your saints,
and for the healing of your world. Amen.
Deuteronomy 8, Psalm 65
Come to the Lord with praise and thanksgiving.
Worship God with gladness.
Come to the Lord with gratitude and joy.
Shower God with praise.
Come to the Lord with grateful hearts.
Love God with humility.
Come! Worship the Lord.

THE WORD OF GOD
Generosity Encouraged
2 Corinthians 9
Give thanks to God in all that you do,
for all that you have,
for every moment of your lives.
God provides you with every blessing,
so that you may share it abundantly
with all the world. Amen.

UMH#102
2 Corinthians 9:6-15
Lectionary Scripture Readings
Ephesians 1:15-23.
Paul reminds the Christians in Ephesus of the glorious inheritance of all believers. The
same power that raised Christ from death and placed him above every imaginable power
is at work on our behalf.
6
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever
sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you
have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God
loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all
things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
9
As it is written:
“They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor;
their righteousness endures forever.”
10
Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and
increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.
11
You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every
occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
12
This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s
people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. 13 Because of
the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the
obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your
generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. 14 And in their prayers for
you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given
you. 15 Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!
Response
This is the word of God for the people of God.
Thanks be to God.

Matthew 25:31-46.
The final public teaching of Jesus. At the Great Assize,” the final Judgment, the King to
Come, seated upon a throne and surrounded by the angels, will judge all based on how
they have treated "the least of these."
