with his resurrection from the dead. We hope that our joy and peace
we have in Him will be your joy and peace as well.
MORNING PRAISE
The Morning Praise Service will be Used for the
8:00 & 10:30 a.m.

PRAYER BEFORE OUR WORSHIP
“In the name of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.
I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your dear Son,
that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger. Keep me
this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may
please you. Into your hands I commend my body and soul and all
things. Let your holy angel be with me, that the wicked foe may have
no power over me. Amen.”

WELCOME & INTRODUCTION
OPENING HYMN.............................. “Jerusalem the Golden” – CW 214
Jerusalem the golden,
With milk and honey blest—
The sight of it refreshes
The weary and oppressed.
I know not, oh, I know not
What joys await us there,
What radiancy of glory,
What bliss beyond compare.
They stand, those halls of Zion,
All jubilant with song
And bright with many an angel
And all the martyr throng.
The Prince is ever in them;
The daylight is serene;
The pastures of the blessed
Are ever rich and green.
There is the throne of David,
And there, from care released,
The shout of them that triumph,
The song of them that feast;
And they who with their leader
Have conquered in the fight
Forever and forever
Are clad in robes of white.

Oh, sweet and blessed country,
The home of God’s elect!
Oh, sweet and blessed country
That eager hearts expect!
Jesus, in mercy bring us
To that dear land of rest;
You are with God the Father
And Spirit ever blest.
M:
O Lord, open my lips
M:
Hasten to save me, O God.
M:
Give glory to God, our light and our life.

CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
C:
Gracious Father, You know the secrets of our hearts. You see
the habits we try to hide, the hatred we harbor, and the sin
to which we are tolerant and blind. You see that we are not
the people You created us to be, nor are we the people we
like others to think we are. And yet, because of Your mercy,
we flee not from, but to You. We pray, forgive our many
faults and failures. Set the cross of Your Son Jesus between
Your judgment and our sin. Hide us by Your grace, and cover
over every one of our sins with your love. Enable us, by your
Holy Spirit, to amend our sinful ways and live according to
Your will and command.
Silence for personal confession and reflection
M:
C:
By God’s grace you are a forgiven people! The highest heaven
cannot contain our Lord; His mercy is inexhaustible. Jesus gave
Himself for our sins, and through Him, and by His command, I
forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The Lord be with you!
And with your spirit!
PRAYER OF THE DAY

M:
C:
Let us pray.
Lord God Almighty, we pray for your Holy Spirit. May he be
the One who directs our thinking and shapes our attitudes,
so that we always look forward to the end of this present evil
age.
Keep us steadfast in true and living faith,
and present us at last holy and blameless before you.

lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and

PSALM OF THE DAY…….God’s Word Is Our Great Heritage – CW 293
(5:15 & 6:30)
God’s Word is our great heritage
And shall be ours forever;
To spread its light from age to age
Shall be our chief endeavor.
Through life it guides our way;
In death it is our stay.
Lord, grant, while worlds endure,
We keep its teachings pure
Throughout all generations.

In the Morning I Will Sing
Refrain:
Verses sung by soloist/choir:
O God, you are my God, for you I long;
for you my soul is thirsting.
My body pines for you
like a dry, weary land without water.
So I gaze on you in the sanctuary
to see your strength and your glory.
Refrain:
For your love is better than life,
my lips will speak your praise.
So I will bless you all my life,
in your name I will lift up my hands.
My soul shall be filled as with a banquet,
my mouth shall praise you with joy.
Refrain:

On my bed I remember you.
On you I muse through the night,
For you have been my help; in the shadow
of your wings I rejoice.
My soul clings to you;
Your right hand holds me fast.

HYMN OF THE DAY ........................ “Forever With the Lord” – CW 213
Forever with the Lord!
Amen! So let it be.
Life from the dead is in that word,
My immortality.
While time on earth is spent,
Absent from him I roam,
Yet nightly pitch my moving tent
A day’s march nearer home.
My Father’s house on high,
Home of my soul, how near
At times, to faith’s foreseeing eye
The golden gates appear!
CHILDREN’S MESSAGE
Lord, be at my right hand,
Then can I never fail.
If you uphold me, I shall stand;
With you I shall prevail.
| 8 Page
So when my dying breath
Shall rend the veil in two,
By death I shall escape from death
To endless life with you.
I’ll know as I am known;
How shall I love that word
And oft repeat before the throne,
“Forever with the Lord!”

BELL TOLL
A moment of silence.
M:
O Lord God, Lord of life and death, we thank you for all the
mercies with which you blessed these saints, now fallen
asleep. We thank you especially for having brought them to
the knowledge of your Son, Jesus Christ.
We pray that you comfort their families and all who mourn
their deaths with your precious promises, and cheer them with
the sure hope of a blessed reunion in heaven.
Grant their lifeless bodies rest and at last, together with us all,
a joyful resurrection to life everlasting. Teach us to number
our days aright, that we may gain hearts of wisdom and finally
be saved, through Jesus Christ, our risen and ever-living Lord.

Worship Series:
“How To Survive the End of the World”
The Book of Eli,” “The Darkest Hour,”
Contagion,” The Day After Tomorrow.” The
list of doomsday movies that Hollywood
produces is incredible. Yet, they keep
coming. There’s something about these end
of the world stories that fascinates us,
frightens us and keeps us coming back for more. The theme that
inspires is survival. Against all odds, when all hope is lost humanity
grabs hold of courage, defies the enemy and turns the tide.
What Hollywood won’t show is the real end of the world story. The
end is coming. For some it will be a day of judgment and destruction,
grief and pain like nothing even seen or imagined before. The Bible
calls this “eternal death.” But for others the end of the world will
make the beginning of a new life where pain and trouble will cease
forever. When that day comes, on which side of the fence are you
going to be on? How will you survive the end of the world?

Attention Hearing Impaired Members
Special receivers are available to help you hear the service. Ask one of
our ushers for a receiver and return it to an usher after the service.

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me.” We love children and

understand. If you feel that your children are distracting others from
worship, you may take them to the entryway or a parent’s room is
available. There is a closed-circuit TV in the room to watch & listen to
the service. An usher can assist you in locating this room, also called
the “Bible Class Room”.
Wheelchair Area
For your convenience, there are two areas set aside to accommodate
members with wheelchairs, walkers, or other special space needs.
Ushers are available to assist you to the following locations:
 Halfway down the middle and side isles on the lectern side of
church, there is a pew with wheelchair space on either end.
 In the right half of the front row, also on the lectern side, there is a
larger area with wheelchair space.

We are rapidly approaching the Christmas season. Please note that all
orders must be placed by Dec. 10th to ensure delivery in time for
Christmas. Please look over our list of retailers on our Emanuel site
(emanuelnl.org) under Resources or at shopwithscrip.com. There are
many gift cards that would make wonderful gifts and would save you
lots of shopping time!
Word Wall Update
Words! Words! Words! We are flying through our letters. We are
finished with the letter Hh. The children had a good time catching me
saying words that begin with Hh! We had 31 Hh words on our board
before we received your input. Then we went all the way up to 126
Hh words. I believe our favorite Hh word is hug. We have a lot of
hugs in our room this year!

Bible Classes
“Prepared to Answer”
Sunday Morning Bible Study
Sundays through November 16 – 9:15 a.m.
You’ve heard the objections. These and many more!
There are many paths to God. What kind of God demands worship?
There are hypocrites in the church. Religion is a crutch for the weak.
Where is God when I’m hurting? I want to feel good about myself. All
the church cares about is money. Can a loving God send people to hell?
Christianity is so anti-woman. I can’t handle your outdated view of sex.
How do I know I’m a Christian? I’ll be rejected by family and friends.
Can you tell the story of Peter’s denial? of the Emmaus disciples?
of the weeds and the wheat? of Judas’ betrayal? of the woman at the
well? of the woman who anointed Jesus with the expensive perfume?
Then you’ve already got a vivid way to respond to six of the objections
above. Even if you can match them up yourself, we encourage you to join
us at 9:15 a.m. in the church proper. We’ll be looking at stories of Jesus
and asking ourselves, “Who needs to hear this?”
Week 10 – November 16:
“Jesus Appears to Thomas: Why can’t I just believe what I see?”
Exodus
The book of Exodus is the history of God's love for His
wayward people. Genesis traced the history of God's promise to send
a Savior for His rebellious mankind. Genesis ends with the choosing of
a family through which that Savior would be sent to the world.
Exodus picks up that history of God's plan to save fallen mankind. It
demonstrates the detailed care God gave to that family. He
repeatedly forgives, calls the family back into His kingdom, and
continues nurtures them after they had rebelled against Him. In the
history of the Israelites we can see our own history as God continues
to offer His Grace to us even though we often demonstrate our
disloyalty to Him.
Tuesday evenings 7:00 to 9:00 – through December 16, Mr. Krause
In the Community Room
| 21 Page
The Bible
The A&E Network presented a ten episode series
called “The Bible.” In that series, the history
presented in the Bible has been broken into ten
brief segments. There are five segments on the
Old Testament and five segments on the New
Testament. We will view these segments one at a
time and discuss them as they relate to the Bible.
We will notice the time span of history has been compressed. They
did try to be true to the Word, but at times used some poetic license
to move the history along.
Sunday mornings 9:15 to 10:15 – Mr. Krause
Through December 7 - Old Testament
January 11 to February 8 - New Testament
In the Community Room
Women’s Fall & Winter Bible Classes
Emanuel’s new ministry group, Women of HIS Word, would like to
invite all women to the following upc oming Bible studies. Easch Bible
study will be held on Sundays from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. in the Church
Basement.
“Women’s Spiritual Gifts” – December 7 & 14
This Bible study will examine the role of women in the church and the
God-pleasing, Scriptural ways in which women can use their time,
talents, treasures, and abilities to serve in the church and further the
growth of God’s Kingdom.
“A Personal Relationship with Jesus”
January 18 & 25
This Bible study will use various examples from Scripture to help
women nurture their personal relationships with Jesus and their daily
walk with their Lord.

Women of HIS Word is a revival of our group
formally known as
Women’s Ministry.
The purpose of Women of HIS Word is to
encourage, support, and build up the body
of Christ by providing opportunities for
women to grow together spiritually, pray
together and for one another, build
Christian relationships, and support each
other in our walk to serve Christ. We will strive to accomplish our
purpose by:

Providing opportunities for women to study God’s Word together
in Bible classes

Connecting various groups of women with similar interests
through small groups for fun and encouragement

