November 2014
I am sure that you have heard,
The coolest grade by far is third.
_______________
We have a quarter behind us and three more ahead.
There are new skills to master and lots of books to be read.
We’re writing in cursive and trying our best.
We will be the smartest kids in the Midwest.
Special Points of Interest:
We have to learn multiplication by heart.
Division is tricky...Where do we start?

Mrs. Baker teaches us about rocks and minerals, volcanoes, and soil.
We also learn about fossil fuels, like coal, gas, and oil.
Mrs. Pridemore teaches us about weather and space.
The troposphere is the perfect place for the human race.
Mrs. Steele teaches us about solids, liquids, and gas,
And we know that matter is everything with mass.
Mrs. James teaches us about levers, pulleys, friction, and force.
We make a simple machines project, of course.
Each morning we write, spell, and read.
They tell us this will help us on the PARCC to succeed.
For many, recess and lunch are the highlights of the day.
We get to run, scream, and have time to play.
Art, music, computers, library, and PE,
Help give us a well-rounded education, don’t you agree?
So far, third grade has been lots of fun.
Thank you parents and teachers for all you have done.

**Library Lessons**
Did you know that every other week Mrs. Griswell teaches your child information literacy skills through library
lessons that meet Common Core Learning Standards? The Common Core Learning Standards prepare students
for college or career readiness. Library lessons provide important research skills that are essential for lifelong learning.
In the fall of 2003, an Illinois state study was performed to determine the impact of school libraries on student learning and achievement. The findings from the study, the 14th of its kind, confirmed that higher student
learning and achievement is linked to strong school library programs. You can find more information about the
state study at http://www.islma.org/IllinoisStudy.htm
Check out the grade school and middle school websites for more information about our school library programs.
