Welcome to St. Helena Church
Our Church is a center for spiritual growth, where
positive attitudes are developed, where good people
become better, where hurts are healed, where lessons are
learned, where friendships are developed, where marriages
restless find peace, where love is alive, where God is
understood, where the Holy Spirit leads, and where Jesus
Christ is Lord. Together, let us spread the message of the
Gospel to our neighbors.

Cualidades.

God and Father of us all, in Jesus, your Son and our Savior, you have made us your sons and
daughters in the family of the Church. May your grace and love help our families in every part of
the world be united to one another in fidelity to the Gospel. May the example of the Holy Family,
with the aid of your Holy Spirit, guide all families, especially those most troubled, to be homes of
communion and prayer and to always seek your truth and live in your love. Through Christ our
Lord. Amen. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us!
Gloria
Plan to join us on Thursday, November
27th for our annual Thanksgiving Day Mass
at 9:00am in the Lower Church. We will
have a special Blessing of Bread during
Mass and distribution of bread after Mass.
-------------------------------------------------
“Gloria in Excelsis” is Latin,
meaning “Glory in the Highest.”
This is the Angelic Hymn or greater
doxology and is an ancient Christian
hymn of thanks, praise and triumph
for redemption. Because of the
joyful nature of the Gloria, it is
omitted in more somber occasions,
such as the Advent or Lent.
During those seasons, the
Catholic Mass takes on a simpler
and more penitent character.

Today we celebrate the 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time. Our Gospel is the parable of the talents. In this
parable, the warning is about playing it safe by doing nothing, taking no risks out of fear. The master calls the
servant who had buried his one talent a wicked servant, not because he had done something evil, but because he
had done nothing to advance his master's interest. A "talent" originally meant money; soon it received its
metaphorical meaning, one's ability. One might also think of the talents entrusted to us as our life, which includes
our abilities, our time on earth, and all the rest that life connotes. In the parable Jesus warns us, in this time
before his return, that we must use the gift of life entrusted to us in a creative way to advance the interest of
God's kingdom. Essentially this means the works of love, as the scene of the final judgment upon Christ's return
makes clear (Mt 25: 31-46). Fear or laziness is unacceptable as an excuse for doing nothing. Perhaps we can
extend the meaning of the parable a little further by thinking of the many ways that the life entrusted to us can be
wasted, even without doing evil things.
The World Meeting of Families event was established by Pope St. John Paul II in 1994. It is held every
three years in cities across the world. 2015 is the first time it will be in the United States. Its goals are (1) to
strengthen family bonds and (2) to give witness to the fundamental role of the family in society. I encourage you
to go the the website (www.WorldMeeting2015.org) and learn more about the World Meeting of Families
that will take place in Philadelphia September 22-27, 2015. I remind you to cut out the prayer for the World
Meeting of Families found on page 2 of the bulletin. We will pray the prayer each week after communion.
I would like to thank Sr. Anna Marie, Dr. Nguyen and all those who made our Health Clinic a success.
Two Hundred people stopped over to take advantage of the many services that participated. Hopefully, we are
not FLU-FREE.
I remind you to return your census cards by the end of November so we can begin visiting those who
requested a home visit. Thanks to all those who already returned their cards and donation.
Finally, Four Seasons Diner on Cottman Avenue is generously offering a Thanksgiving Dinner for our
parishioners on Sunday, November 30th at 3:00pm in the School Hall. Please see page 2 of this bulletin for
information and how to reserve a ticket. What a nice way to give thanks for the gift of your family! Thanks for
reading and have a good week!
