THANKSGIVING DAY
MASSES
10:00 a.m. English and 12:00 Noon Spanish
(There will not be a 7:00 or 8:30 a.m. Mass)
Let’s gather together as a Parish Family and
give thanks to God.
O God, when I have food,
help me to remember the hungry;
When I have work,
help me to remember the jobless;
When I have a home,
help me to remember those who have no home at all;
When I am without pain,
help me to remember those who suffer,
And remembering,
help me to destroy my complacency;
bestir my compassion,
and be concerned enough to help;
By word and deed,
those who cry out for what we take for granted.
Amen.

PASTOR’S REFLECTION
The Feast of Christ the King
November 23, 2014
Dear Friends,
Is Jesus Christ the true Lord of our lives?
If we are truly followers of our Lord Jesus,
how do we witness to this fact? What
opportunities do I have to engage in
activities like clothing the naked, feeding
the hungry and so forth? Have I made good
use of those opportunities?
As you reflect on God’s Word, may He
strengthen you with His peace. May the
good Lord bless you and your dear family
abundantly each day. Please pray for me.
In Christ,
Msgr. Pablo A. Navarro

GETTING TO KNOW OUR PRIESTS - FR. LUIS RIVERO
(PART 1)
Q: How did you come to the decision to apply to the seminary?
A: I went to high school at St Brendan. There was a vocations awareness retreat at
St John Vianney Seminary next door. While I had the vocation already, I had become
too distracted with worldly commodities so I had no plans to attend the retreat; but a priest from the seminary asked me why I wasn't going to the weekend. I couldn't give him a good reason, and I had postponed
it for quite some time. Having no adequate excuse I went. The retreat gave me a sense of belonging, a
sense of peace understanding that this is where the Lord wanted me in that period of my life. This sense
of belonging and joyful fulfillment in following the Lord continued throughout my time at the seminary.
Q: How did your family and friends react to your vocation?
A: My friends were very supportive. I told everyone, including my parents, that I was going to seminary
two weeks before we were to report to the seminary. They were very surprised! They did not know that I had
applied to the seminary.
Q: What would you be doing if you had not become a priest?
A: I would probably be either in education or in business. I taught religious education (formerly known as
CCD) during High School and part way through the seminary I took a sabbatical to teach at a catholic school
and do business consulting. During High School I managed a furniture store—the largest Hispanic furniture
company in the U.S.— before I started college. If I had never been in the seminary, I may still be in the
business, but I would probably be unhappy.
Parts two and three will follow.
JUSTICE CORNER – CHARITY
YES, AND JUSTICE TOO!
Today’s Scriptures continue the theme of taking action.
The Gospel speaks clearly about our call to care for Jesus
as he appears in people who are hungry, naked, imprisoned, etc. This moral obligation cannot be satisfied by
acts of charity alone. We are called to work together to
address the root causes, not just the effects, of injustice.
As we give God thanks for our blessings this week, may
we remember our brothers and sisters who lack the basic
necessities to live with dignity. Let us contemplate the
root causes of poverty – greed, unfair trading practices,
lack of access to education, healthcare, shelter, consumerism, and challenge ourselves to live simply so we have
more to share with others.

Fiesta de Cristo Rey
23 de Noviembre del 2014
Queridos Amigos,
¿Es Jesucristo el verdadero Señor en nuestras
vidas? ¿Si verdaderamente soy discípulo de
Jesús, como doy testimonio de esto? ¿Qué
oportunidades tengo para dar de comer a los
hambrientos y de servir a los mas necesitados?
¿He aprovechado estas oportunidades?
Tomen unos minutos en oración de silencio.
Pídanle a Dios que les demuestre formas de
responder a Su Palabra y a Su Plan divino.
Por favor oren por mi. Asegúrense que los
tengo a ustedes y a sus seres queridos en mis
oraciones diarias.
