LADONNA HARRIS: INDIAN 101
This documentary profiles Comanche political and social activist LaDonna Harris.
President Lyndon Johnson tapped her to educate the executive and legislative
branches on the unique role of American Indian tribes and their relationship to
the U.S. government. The course, called “Indian 101,” was taught to members of
Congress and other agencies for more than 35 years. In addition to her work in civil
rights, world peace, the environment and women’s rights, Harris is best known for
introducing landmark legislation.

CHOCTAW CODE TALKERS
Choctaw Code Talkers is the empowering chronicle of Choctaw Soldiers as the original
Code Talkers during World War I, a story which has been buried in history for nearly
a hundred years. With testimonies from family members and Choctaw tribal leaders,
the program brings a unique perspective to these forgotten heroes and their wartime
contributions.

NATURE: ANIMAL MISFITS
Alongside the fastest, strongest, smartest animals are nature’s misfits, odd, bizarre
and unlikely creatures that at first glance seem ill-equipped for survival. Left at
the starting line in the race for life, these are the apparent losers in the story of
evolution, yet somehow they manage to cling to life and in some cases even thrive.
“Animal Misfits” reveals some surprising details about how evolution really works,
demonstrating that all animals are remarkably well-adapted to their chosen way of
life.

NOVA: WHY PLANES VANISH
he disappearance of Flight MH370 stunned the world.
In an era of smart-phones and GPS, how could a 270ton passenger jet vanish into thin air? It was a rude
awakening for all of us, showing just how far we are
from the world we imagined we lived in - in which every
move is monitored all the time. NOVA tells the inside
story of the search for Flight MH370 and meets the
key players, from all corners of the globe, who have
spent months searching for the lost plane. How easy is
it to make a plane disappear? Or can new technology
guarantee that in the future, nothing will ever be “lost”
again?
Airs Sunday, November 9th at 6PM and Tuesday,
November 11th at 7PM

Best Public Television Station You Haven’t Heard of
Los Angeles 2014
KLCS
KLCS is best known for broadcasting interminable board meetings of L.A. Unified
School District, which operates it. But the public broadcasting station has three
additional, lesser-known channels — KLCS-2 with children’s shows; KLCS-3 with
lifestyle and cooking shows; and the crown jewel, KLCS-4, which broadcasts MHZ,
a national, noncommercial aggregator of international newscasts and drama. The
mostly 30-minute news shows include major news organizations in England, Germany,
Japan, France, China and Russia, plus surprising finds from Ireland, Korea, Taiwan,
India, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and more. It’s an unmatched opportunity to gain different
perspectives in a setting generally devoid of folks yelling
at each other or their guests. An extra bonus each night
are the international murder mysteries from Scandinavia, Germany, France, England and Italy. It may be
up-channel and under-radar, but KLCS is something
LAUSD does right. —Ann Haskins

NOVA: WHY PLANES VANISH
The disappearance of Flight MH370
stunned the world. In an era of smart-phones
and GPS, how could a 270-ton passenger jet
vanish into thin air? It was a rude awakening
for all of us, showing just how far we are
from the world we imagined we lived in - in
20 Thursday
which every move is monitored all the time.
7:00 Nature
NOVA tells the inside story of the search for
Victoria Falls
Flight MH370 and meets the key players,
from all corners of the globe, who have
spent months searching for the lost plane.
How easy is it to make a plane disappear?
Or can new technology guarantee that in
the future, nothing will ever be “lost” again?
