HOW WE GOT TO NOW WITH STEVEN JOHNSON
This six-part series, hosted by the popular American science author and media
theorist, Steven Johnson, explores the power and the legacy of great ideas. Topics
explored in the series include why and how ideas happen, and their sometimes
unintended results, including how the search for clean water opened the way to
invention of the iPhone, and how the nagging problem of overheating in a New
York printing business led to the invention of air conditioning, which inspired mass
migration and a political transformation.

NATURE: INVASION OF KILLER WHALES
As the ice shrinks in the Arctic, polar bears are struggling to survive in a fast melting
world. Although classified a marine mammal, the polar bear is not adapted to
hunting in the water. And it is certainly no match for the world’s greatest aquatic
hunter - the killer whale. In the last few years, scientists have noted an ever-growing
number of killer whales in Arctic waters in the summer months. More and more
have been attracted to these hunting grounds by the growing expanse of open water.
They attack the same prey as the polar bears: seals, narwhal, belugas and bowhead
whales.

NOVA: BIGGER THAN T.REX
Almost a century ago, paleontologists found
fossil bones from a dinosaur that was bigger than
Tyrannosaurus rex. The Spinosaurus fossils were
destroyed in a WWII bombing raid. Now, the discovery
of new bones in Morocco is reopening the investigation
into this epic beast. Follow the paleontologists who
are reconstructing this terrifying carnivore, a 53-footlong behemoth with a huge dorsal sail, scimitar-like
claws and superjaws. Bringing together experts in
paleontology, geology, climatology and paleobotany,
this special brings to life the lost world over which
Spinosaurus reigned more than 65 million years ago.

We have full control over our impulses, diet and lives
PAGE 5 / KLCS VIEWER MAGAZINE / DECEMBER 2014

NOVA: BIGGER THAN T.REX
Almost a century ago, paleontologists found
fossil bones from a dinosaur that was bigger
than Tyrannosaurus rex. The Spinosaurus
fossils were destroyed in a WWII bombing
raid. Now, the discovery of new bones in
Morocco is reopening the investigation
into this epic beast. Follow the paleontologists who are reconstructing this terrifying
carnivore, a 53-foot-long behemoth with
a huge dorsal sail, scimitar-like claws and
superjaws.
