HISTORIC ARMENIA
In the Summer of 2013, Los Angeles Area Emmyaward winning journalist Peter Musurlian travelled
to what is now Eastern Turkey, along with 25 other
Armenian-Americans, including an 81-year-old
professor of Armenian History from UCLA, and
a retired Los Angeles aerospace engineer, who,
during nearly 80 trips, has taken more than 1,200
tourists to “Historic Armenia” over the past
quarter of a century.
This 45-minute documentary will comprehensively
show, for the first time on Los Angeles television,
remnants of a millennia-old, ancient civilization, destroyed over the past 100 years.
If you have Armenian-American friends, classmates or colleagues, it is likely their
ancestors lived on this land for thousands of years, before the Armenian Genocide of
1915 to 1923 led to what Professor Richard Hovanissian calls “The Vanishing Armenian
Landscape.”
Airs Sunday, April 19th at 5PM and Tuesday, April 21st at 8PM
THE 100-YEAR-OLD SURVIVOR
PAGE 1 / KLCS VIEWER MAGAZINE / APRIL 2015
From 1915 to 1923, 1.5 million of the 2 million Armenians living in Turkey were killed.
Ghazaros Kademian was one of the 500,000 survivors dispersed around the globe.
In May 2007, he turned 100, and was on a mission, from community events to city
halls to political demonstrations, trying to get his adopted country of America to
officially recognize as “genocide,” what he had survived as an orphaned boy. It was a
tall order, as presidents from Bush to Clinton to Bush had issued annual statements
lamenting the World War One-era killings as “massacres,” but not “genocide.”
From the age of 100 to 101, we see Kademian joining forces with thousands
of his fellow Armenian-Americans in a search for justice. His monumental
effort was recorded by Los Angeles Area Emmy award-winning journalist Peter
Musurlian who shot, wrote, edited and narrated the 55-minute documentary, which
takes us from Los Angeles to Sacramento to New
York City and to Washington, D.C., with triumphs
and disappointments along the way.
Acclaimed attorney & author, Mark Geragos, who
is seen speaking in Times Square at the end of the
film, calls the The 100-Year-Old Survivor, “A oneman tour de force of original throwback reporting
that unfortunately is almost extinct in today’s
world. This documentary can only be described as:
An unrivaled journalistic masterpiece.”
Airs Sunday, April 19th at 6PM and Tuesday, April 21st at 9PM
