MEDIA RELEASE 21 November 2014 Ready, set, MO! The race is on this month amongst Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) and Gold Coast Airport (GCAPL) staff to raise awareness and funds for men's health foundation, Movember. The 27 mo-strong team, better known as the 'High Flyers', is spearheaded by Team Captain Chris Mills, otherwise known as QAL’s Chief Financial Officer. This marks the first year QAL and GCAPL have officially supported Movember by collectively putting a team together and raising funds from a corporate perspective. Championed by Airport Training Officer and core MO-tivator Matt Bender, the month-long venture has instilled a sense of comradery within the office staff, not to mention plenty of light-hearted banter. “The event has been well-received overall by the office, and has been a great team building exercise. “There is a good cross-section of staff involved, from electricians in the terminal to our GCAPL Chief Operating Officer. “The Mo-sista’s aren’t to be forgotten either. Thankfully they aren’t growing mo’s, but the ladies of the organisation are kindly tolerating our woeful appearance and digging deep to support our fundraising efforts,” Matt said. QAL Managing Director Dennis Chant said that he is proud to see so many members of the company supporting Movember, and has pledged QAL will match what the team raise, dollar for dollar. “It is great to see the Gold Coast based staff embracing and supporting this initiative by growing their mo’s. “The support the team is receiving from their workmates has been phenomenal,” said Mr Chant. The team have met and surpassed their goal of $5000, but are keen to keep the donations coming until the end of the month. Moustaches and collection boxes have also been set up in the terminal to raise awareness amongst passengers and visitors. The Movember Foundation is the leading global organisation committed to changing the face of men’s health. Movember’s Asia Pacific Director, Jeremy Macvean, said the support of teams like the ‘High Flyers’ enabled Movember to impact the lives of more men around the world through life saving programs and research. “The efforts of the QAL and GCAPL staff show that men and women across Australia can get involved and help change the face of men’s health by growing or supporting a Mo,” said Mr Macvean. To date, the Movember community has raised $580 million and funded over 800 programs in 21 countries. In making a donation to the High Flyers Movember team you can contribute to funding research and prevention for prostate and testicular cancer, as well as mental health issues such as depression.
