Andy’s Slap Shot...
We opened our season against the Brick Star on Saturday. The Red and the White teams
performed well skating for 40 minutes each and pounding the net with 14 plus goals. I was
impressed with the turnout of players and the improvement our players showed over last
season. I probably can give many shout outs today but I’ll limit it to 2. Sam Ciemiecki
scored the first goal of her career on Saturday. It was a picture perfect goal as Sam saw an
opening and hit a screaming slap shot through the goalie’s legs. Way to go Sam! Additionally, Andrew Basista came out of retirement for the 3 rd time to record a hat trick. It was a
typical display of hard hitting and goal pounding as Basista scored often while throwing his
body around in a fearless display. Welcome back Andrew!
We have 14 players, 2 coaches, I photographer and a google of parents shuffling off to
Buffalo this weekend for our first tournament of the season. Early weather reports are predicting 2 feet of snow. Good luck to all the travelers as I will be staying nice and warm in
NJ. All kidding aside, I’ll miss hanging out with the team this weekend. Do us proud and
bring back some wins. The team will be sponsoring a dinner on Saturday night. Frank, take
a lot of pictures so I don’t miss anything!
We have received a significant amount of donations for Grandma’s cupboard to date. We
still have items left to be purchased. I’ll be getting out an updated inventory this week.
Our goal is to assemble 25 blessing bags. I’ll be at the rink on Saturday for practice so feel
free to drop off your donations with me. We’re also accepting coats and other clothing
items. Please make sure the clothing is in good shape and clean. If you can’t donate an
item we’re also accepting monetary donations that we will use to purchase new underwear
and socks. We’re scheduled to assemble the blessing bags on Saturday December 6th after
practice. If you’re available we’d love to have you and your player participate. We’ll be
serving pizza and dessert.
Practice for November 29th is cancelled. We’re playing 2 games in Westchester that day.
If you haven’t signed up yet please do so on Saturday or respond to me through e mail.
The games usually start around 5:30. We should be back on the road around 9:00. If you
haven’t participated in a road game, this is a great opportunity.
Attention Junior Coaches, please remember to sign in at each practice. This is the only way
we can verify your volunteer hours. If you don’t see a sign in sheet, please ask one of the
parents at the welcome table.
Have a great week!
Andy
