PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
“To strive together to be Christ for each other and our neighbor.”
Dear Parishioners,
On the third Monday of every month, we hold a
“Leadership Night” at which members of our six Commissions meet to plan and carry out their goals for their
respective area of parish life. The Commissions meet simultaneously, and, afterward, the Pastoral Council meets
to look at issues and tasks that concern the parish as a
whole.
This Monday was our latest Leadership Night. Reporting
at the conclusion of their meeting to everyone brings out
the highlights of what is happening:

The Administration Commission is working on the
establishment of an annual budgeting process for our
Ministries (all organizations and committees) and the
establishment of a Stewardship of God’s Gifts Committee (a new Ministry for our parish).

The Youth Faith Formation Commission is helping to
coordinate expansion of the Children’s Liturgy of the
Word to the Spanish Mass and possibly to another. It
continues to monitor the unification of our religious
education program and is celebrating the recruitment
of sufficient youth and chaperones by our youth minister, Chelsea Breeden, for a mission trip to Jamaica this
summer.

The Adult Faith Formation Commission is studying
the data from its surveys and focus groups in which
they sought to understand what the relevant issues are
for adults across the spectrum of age as well as how
adults prefer to tap into formation opportunities. They
are now starting an effort to look at other parishes for
best practice ideas.

The Community Life Commission is assisting the restart of the Newcomer Welcome Committee and is
now beginning an effort to research best practices for
welcoming new parishioners.

The Prayer and Worship Commission’s goal is to find
new ways to help the parish in general to understand
the liturgy more deeply. They are looking for good
ways to provide such educational opportunities.

The Outreach and Social Justice Commission has supervised the establishment of our newest Ministry, the
Backpack Program. It has been running smoothly and
serves forty students in two schools. Their next step is
to continue to learn more about the needs and initiatives from all our existing outreach ministries.
The Pastoral Council spent the majority of its time discussing an event that is tentatively planned for February. It
will be a “Gathering of Ministers.” All parishioners will
be invited to attend. It will have a brief “State of the Parish” presentation, an opportunity for questions and feedback. The presentation will also help explain how the new
Commission structure works. The heart of the event will
be a breakout into the six areas of parish life for interaction
with members of Commissions. We hope to receive useful
feedback and ideas from the event. Stay tuned…

Opportunities to Make the Holidays Brighter
The holiday season is approaching but for
many of our neighbors there
is little to celebrate. Over the years, many
generous St. John Neumann ministries and
parishioners have created special projects to
help feed the hungry and put gifts under
their trees. Our parishioner’s legendary generosity becomes
even more abundant this time of year. During the holidays, look
in this section for opportunities to help your neighbors. Thank
you for helping those in need.
The parish’s annual Giving Trees are here with their colorful
ornaments. We’re hoping you will help change their looks by
removing some of the ornaments and replacing them with
gifts. Each year our parishioners remember the needs of the
community by purchasing suggested gifts of food, household
necessities, and clothing. Gift suggestions are reasonable (less
than $20) and easy to find at local stores.

went out from the sixth graders, who sponsor our Harvest
Hope Food Drive, to help the homeless in our community, the
SJN boys and girls and their families responded with many,

of love and all that God has given us is always evident at SJN,

Join us for Thanksgiving Mass at 9:00 a.m. Thanksgiving

and Advent begins. The program Come to the Table is
described as “Catholics and their friends having conversations about faith.”
