Jeremiah 2:4 Hear the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the clans of the house of Israel.
Thus says the LORD: "What wrong did your fathers find in me that they went far from me, and went after

worthlessness, and became worthless? They did not say, 'Where is the LORD who brought us up from
the land of Egypt, who led us in the wilderness, in a land of deserts and pits, in a land of drought and
7
deep darkness, in a land that none passes through, where no man dwells?' And I brought you into a
plentiful land to enjoy its fruits and its good things. But when you came in, you defiled my land and made
8
my heritage an abomination. The priests did not say, 'Where is the LORD?' Those who handle the law
did not know me; the shepherds transgressed against me; the prophets prophesied by Baal and went
9
after things that do not profit. "Therefore I still contend with you, declares the LORD, and with your
10
children's children I will contend. For cross to the coasts of Cyprus and see, or send to Kedar and
11
examine with care; see if there has been such a thing. Has a nation changed its gods, even though
12
they are no gods? But my people have changed their glory for that which does not profit. Be appalled,
13
O heavens, at this; be shocked, be utterly desolate, declares the LORD, for my people have committed
two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves,
broken cisterns that can hold no water.

see if there has ever been such a thing. Has a nation changed its gods, even though they are no gods?

But my people have changed their glory for something that does not profit. Be appalled, O heavens, at

καθοδηγήσας ἡµᾶς ἐν τῇ ἐρήµῳ ἐν γῇ ἀπείρῳ καὶ ἀβάτῳ ἐν γῇ ἀνύδρῳ καὶ ἀκάρπῳ ἐν γῇ ἐν ᾗ οὐ διώδευσεν
ἐν αὐτῇ οὐθὲν καὶ οὐ κατῴκησεν ἐκεῖ υἱὸς ἀνθρώπου 7 καὶ εἰσήγαγον ὑµᾶς εἰς τὸν Κάρµηλον τοῦ φαγεῖν ὑµᾶς
τοὺς καρποὺς αὐτοῦ καὶ τὰ ἀγαθὰ αὐτοῦ καὶ εἰσήλθατε καὶ ἐµιάνατε τὴν γῆν µου καὶ τὴν κληρονοµίαν µου
ἔθεσθε εἰς βδέλυγµα 8 οἱ ἱερεῖς οὐκ εἶπαν ποῦ ἐστιν κύριος καὶ οἱ ἀντεχόµενοι τοῦ νόµου οὐκ ἠπίσταντό µε
καὶ οἱ ποιµένες ἠσέβουν εἰς ἐµέ καὶ οἱ προφῆται ἐπροφήτευον τῇ Βααλ καὶ ὀπίσω ἀνωφελοῦς ἐπορεύθησαν 9
διὰ τοῦτο ἔτι κριθήσοµαι πρὸς ὑµᾶς λέγει κύριος καὶ πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς τῶν υἱῶν ὑµῶν κριθήσοµαι 10 διότι
διέλθετε εἰς νήσους Χεττιιµ καὶ ἴδετε καὶ εἰς Κηδαρ ἀποστείλατε καὶ νοήσατε σφόδρα καὶ ἴδετε εἰ γέγονεν

‫‪τοιαῦτα 11 εἰ ἀλλάξονται ἔθνη θεοὺς αὐτῶν καὶ οὗτοι οὔκ εἰσιν θεοί ὁ δὲ λαός µου ἠλλάξατο τὴν δόξαν αὐτοῦ‬‬
‫‪ἐξ ἧς οὐκ ὠφεληθήσονται 12 ἐξέστη ὁ οὐρανὸς ἐπὶ τούτῳ καὶ ἔφριξεν ἐπὶ πλεῖον σφόδρα λέγει κύριος 13 ὅτι‬‬
‫‪δύο πονηρὰ ἐποίησεν ὁ λαός µου ἐµὲ ἐγκατέλιπον πηγὴν ὕδατος ζωῆς καὶ ὤρυξαν ἑαυτοῖς λάκκους‬‬

listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways! I would soon subdue their enemies and turn my hand

against their foes. Those who hate the LORD would cringe toward him, and their fate would last

forever. But he would feed you with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy
you."

Psalm 112:1 Praise the LORD! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who greatly delights in his

commandments! His offspring will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.

Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever. Light dawns in the darkness

for the upright; he is gracious, merciful, and righteous. It is well with the man who deals generously and

lends; who conducts his affairs with justice. For the righteous will never be moved; he will be

remembered forever. He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD. His heart is
9
steady; he will not be afraid, until he looks in triumph on his adversaries. He has distributed freely; he

has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn is exalted in honor. The wicked man
sees it and is angry; he gnashes his teeth and melts away; the desire of the wicked will perish!

Hebrews 13:1 Let brotherly love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for

thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Remember those who are in prison, as though in
4
prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body. Let marriage be held in
honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and
5
adulterous. Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said,
6
"I will never leave you nor forsake you." So we can confidently say, "The Lord is my helper; I will not
7
fear; what can man do to me?" Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God.
8
Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and
9
today and forever. Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be
10
strengthened by grace, not by foods, which have not benefited those devoted to them. We have an
11
altar from which those who serve the tent have no right to eat. For the bodies of those animals whose
blood is brought into the holy places by the high priest as a sacrifice for sin are burned outside the camp.

So Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own blood.
14
Therefore let us go to him outside the camp and bear the reproach he endured. For here we have no
15
lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come. Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice
16
of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. Do not neglect to do good and to
share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
