When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those 2 who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said 3 among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them." The LORD has done great things for 4 5 us; we are glad. Restore our fortunes, O LORD, like streams in the Negeb! Those who sow in tears 6 shall reap with shouts of joy! He who goes out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him. If anyone else thinks he 5 has reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of 6 Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; as to zeal, a persecutor 7 of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless. But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss 8 for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in 9 order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith-10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him 11 12 in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has 13 made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting 14 what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. NRS Philippians 3:4 even though I, too, have reason for confidence in the flesh. If anyone else has 5 reason to be confident in the flesh, I have more: circumcised on the eighth day, a member of the people 6 of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew born of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; as to zeal, a 7 persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless. Yet whatever gains I had, these 8 I have come to regard as loss because of Christ. More than that, I regard everything as loss because of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, 9 and I regard them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but one that comes through faith in Christ, the 10 righteousness from God based on faith. I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the 11 sharing of his sufferings by becoming like him in his death, if somehow I may attain the resurrection 12 from the dead. Not that I have already obtained this or have already reached the goal; but I press on to 13 make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Beloved, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies 14 ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus. ESV John 12:1 Six days before the Passover, Jesus therefore came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, 2 whom Jesus had raised from the dead. So they gave a dinner for him there. Martha served, and Lazarus 3 was one of those reclining with him at table. Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with 4 the fragrance of the perfume. But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was about to betray him), 5 6 said, "Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?" He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he 7 used to help himself to what was put into it. Jesus said, "Leave her alone, so that she may keep it for the 8 day of my burial. For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me." She bought it so that she might keep it for the day of my burial. You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me."
