EPISTLE First Letter to the Corinthians 4:9-16 BRETHREN, God has exhibited us apostles as last
of all, like men sentenced to death; because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels and
to men. We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong.
You are held in honor, but we in disrepute. To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are ill-clad
and buffeted and homeless, and we labor, working with our own hands. When reviled, we bless;
when persecuted, we endure; when slandered, we try to conciliate; we have become, and are now,
as the refuse of the world, the off-scouring of all things. I do not write this to make you ashamed,
but to admonish you as my beloved children. For though you have countless guides in Christ, you
do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel. I urge you,
then, be imitators of me.
GOSPEL Matthew 9:9-13 At that time, as Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called
Matthew sitting at the tax office; and he said to him, "Follow me." And he rose and followed him.
And as he sat at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with
Jesus and his disciples. And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, "Why does your
teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" But when he heard it, he said, "Those who are well have
no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, 'I desire mercy, and
not sacrifice.' For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."

Thanksgiving weekend, November 30. There will be one Liturgy

When the angelic powers appeared at Your
grave, the soldiers guarding it feared and became as dead. And standing by the sepulcher
was Mary who was seeking Your immaculate
body. You devastated Hades, not afflicted by
it. You went to meet the Virgin and granted
eternal life. You resurrected from the dead. O
Lord, glory to You.

temple, the very precious bridal chamber
and Virgin, who is the sacred treasure of
the glory of God, on this day is introduced

Saints and Feasts
Entrance of the Theotokos into the Temple
The Theotokos was brought to the Temple at three
years of age, where she was consecrated to God
and spent her days until she was fourteen or fifteen
years old; and then, as a mature maiden, by the
common counsel of the priests (since her parents
had reposed some three years before), she was betrothed to Joseph.
Matthew the Apostle & Evangelist
This Apostle, who was also called Levi, was the
son of Alphaeus and had Galilee as his homeland.
A publican before being called by Christ, he became one of the Twelve Apostles, and an Evangelist. While still in Palestine, he wrote his Gospel
first in Hebrew, being also the first of all to write
the Gospel. When he is depicted in icons, there is
portrayed next to him the likeness of a man, one of
the symbolic living creatures mentioned by Ezekiel
(1.10), which, as Saint Irenaeus writes, is a symbol
of our Savior's Incarnation.

Please note that according to Greek Orthodox practice, laypeople do not give eulogies in church during funeral services.
The proper venues for lay eulogies are either at the graveside
burial service or at the makaria memorial luncheon that follows.
Also be reminded that, due to the number of memorials
celebrated every Sunday, our clergy cannot go to cemeteries for
memorials on that day. Please call to make an appointment for
them to meet you at the cemetery on any other day.
Sunday memorials must be scheduled by calling the office
at 727-937-3540. St. Nicholas offers kollyva prepared by sexton
Afrati Tassopoulos. Proceeds benefit the parish. Orders may be
placed and payment made through the parish office. Kollyva
may also be ordered through Irene Koutelas (727-934-5245) or

We accomplish that only through living our faith.
How did Christ demonstrate what it means to be fishers
of men? He educated, healed, and fed the multitudes.
That is His example for us. True Christian stewardship
encompasses an entire way of life that can’t be attained
without an intimate relationship with the Church. How
can you build that relationship? Worship with us as a
member of the Body of Christ. Be a mentor to our
youth. Help us develop new ministries. Become part of
the fabric of our St Nicholas community. Make your
commitment at www.stnicholastarpon.org/stewardship.
We are stewards of the first catch.
