Yet, developmental differences in risk, onset, and maintenance of anxiety disorders are poorly understood. In some contexts, typically-developing, at-risk and anxious children might manifest similar-appearing anxiety behaviors. However, these behaviors merely index the end-stage output of a complex neural cascade of various cognitive processes, thus obscuring their underlying mechanisms. Methods from neuroscience permit the study of specific cognitive systems, and thus may be used to reveal the underling mechanisms of anxiety. This is particularly pertinent for charting developmental trajectories of anxiety, as some cognitive processes may be early markers of later anxiety, even in the absence of behavioral symptoms. My talk will review few examples that underscore how subtle perturbations in neurocognitive mechanisms associated with attention and fear learning can differentiate between normative and pathological developmental of anxiety that could potentially be targeted in treatment. The lecture will be held in Hebrew | ההרצאה תתקיים בשפה העברית !נשמח לראותכם
