What’s happened here?’” When she learned from a welfare counselor that immigrants who had entered the country illegally qualified for the same public benefits that had been denied her friend, a U.S. citizen, Coe began her journey from political neophyte to fiery crusader against the demographic tide that was transforming California. Coe, 79, who helped lead the grass-roots movement behind Proposition 187, the controversial 1994 California ballot initiative to deny those in the country illegally access to basic public services, died Saturday at her Huntington Beach home. The cause was cancer, said Evelyn Miller, a board member of the California Coalition for Immigration Reform, which Coe headed. Croat who hijacked U.S. plane ZAGREB, Croatia — Zvonko Busic, a Croatian nationalist who served 32 years in prison in the U.S. for hijacking a plane and also planting explosives that killed a policeman, has committed suicide. He was 67. Police said Busic was found dead Sunday at his home in Rovanjska, near the coastal town of Zadar. They said he left a suicide note. Busic led a group of five who in 1976 hijacked a TWA plane flying from New York to Chicago with some 80 passengers and crew members onboard, and also planted a bomb in a locker at New York’s Grand Central railway station that killed a policeman. Busic and his group said at the time they wanted to draw attention to Croatia’s bid for independence from communist Yugoslavia. Busic returned to Croatia in 2008 after he was paroled in the United States where he was serving a life sentence for air piracy. According to the company website, Jim Kowalski was named Minnesota Grocer of the Year and his wife was named National Grocers Association Woman of the Year. — From wire services John Weiss / [email protected] The new fish-cleaning shack at Colvill Park in Red Wing will be dedicated at 1 p.m. Saturday in honor of Ralph Diercks, a well-known local fishing guide and sporting goods store owner who died Jan. 1. ´7UXVW8Vµ :LWKRXWSXEOLFQRWLFHVWKHJRYHUQPHQWZRXOGQ¶W KDYHWRVD\DQ\WKLQJHOVH 3XEOLFQRWLFHVDUHDFRPPXQLW\¶VZLQGRZLQWRWKHJRYHUQPHQW )URP ]RQLQJ UHJXODWLRQV WR ORFDO EXGJHWV JRYHUQPHQWV KDYH XVHG ORFDO QHZVSDSHUV WR LQIRUP FLWL]HQV RI LWV DFWLRQV DV DQ HVVHQWLDOSDUWRI\RXUULJKWWRNQRZ<RXNQRZZKHUHWRORRN ZKHQWRORRNDQGZKDWWRORRNIRUWREHLQYROYHGDVDFLWL]HQ /RFDOQHZVSDSHUVSURYLGH\RXZLWKWKHLQIRUPDWLRQ\RXQHHGWR JHWLQYROYHG 1RWLFHVDUHPHDQWWREHQRWLFHG 5HDG\RXUSXEOLFQRWLFHVDQGJHWLQYROYHG
