Fadness — Rochester Alfred R. Evans, 85, of LeRoy, died peacefully in his home Friday, June 7, 2013. He was born Nov. 30, 1927, in Chappell, Neb., to Florence and Ray Evans. He grew up in Sidney, Neb., where he played high school basketball and worked as a printer’s devil. Alfred joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 16 during World War II, and was a proud member of the Rochester Minnesota Honor Flight Corp., in October 2009. He was a linotype operator/printer/publisher through his lifetime, starting his publishing career in Atkinson, Ill., at The Atkinson-Annawan News weekly newspaper in Evans 1963. During his career, he owned publications as well, in Hillsboro, Wis.; the Henry County Advertizer in Geneseo, Ill., and three other area publications in Orion, Port Byron and Atkinson. With his wife, he owned the LeRoy Independent in LeRoy, buying it in 1992 as well as the Lime Springs Herald in Iowa. He was a fifth generation printer, and one of his greatest achievements was the fact most of his children followed in his career footsteps. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eileen. They were married Oct. 16, 1950, in International Falls. He is also survived by 14 children, including Terry (Mary Kay) of Plymouth, Wis., Pat Markor of Wisconsin Dells, Wis., Tim (Luanne) of Moline, Ill., Linda (Leo) Smith of Park City, Ill., Debra (Joe) Welter of Grayslake, Ill., Sue Beck of Canton, Ga., Donna (Tom) Gnidovic of Chicago, Ill., Barb (Brian) O’Neill of Owatonna, Dan (Joyce) of LeRoy, Julie (Mark) Hale of Clearwater, Fla., Greg (Sue) of Sparta, Wis., Natalie (Robert Rizer) of Beaver Dam, Wis., Dave (Amy) of Kasson, and Matt (Jessie) of Byron; as well as 32 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Paul (Sue) of Bayard, Neb., and Don of Bridgeport, Neb.; as well as two sisters, LaWanda Bennett of Bayard, Neb., and Connie (Don) Benker of Greeley, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Virgil; and a infant son, Ronnie. He was a member of the LeRoy American Legion Post 161, served on the Illinois Press Association Board of Directors, helped start the Atkinson Chamber of Commerce and served as president, he served as member of the Atkinson Fire Department, and the Atkinson Village Board. He was chairman of LeRoy Economic Development Board and helped find a physician and start the Mayo Clinic Health System in LeRoy. He was an active member of the LeRoy Senior Citizens and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in LeRoy. He was a Nebraska football fan, enjoyed playing horseshoes, bowling, pool, cribbage, computer games, watching game shows and reading books on Westerns. A funeral service for Alfred will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in LeRoy, with Father Marreddy Pothireddy officiating. He was born June 18, 1994, in Burnsville, to Rodney and Rhonda (Fuchs) Wencel. Connor graduated from Pine Island High School in 2012. He worked at Reichel Foods in Rochester. Connor enjoyed everything mechanical, including snowmobiling, four wheeling and working with cars. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his best friend, Zach. Connor was known as a people person and was easy to get a long with. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Pine Wencel Island. Connor is survived by his mother, Rhonda Wencel of Pine Island; father, Rodney Wencel of Elko; sister, Ashley Wencel of Pine Island; brothers, Steven Wencel of Grand Forks, N.D., and Christian Wencel of Pine Island; niece, Ryleigh Wencel; maternal grandparents, James and Audrey Fuchs of Pine Island; paternal grandparents, John and LaVae Wencel of Baxter; aunts, Audra (Randy) DePestel, and Ronna (Todd) Hudson; uncle, Roger (Pam) Wencel; and many cousins. Mrs. Fadness, 84, of Rochester, formerly of Fargo, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at her residence at Madonna Meadows. Fadness Clara was born Aug. 12, 1928, in Hebron, N.D., to Matt and Elizabeth Messer Jantzer. After attending school in Hebron, she married Richard E. Renner on Sept. 16, 1947. Richard and Clara raised six sons and a daughter in Richardton and Hettinger, N.D. Shortly after Richard’s death on Jan. 17, 1982, Clara moved to Fargo, N.D., to be closer to many of their children. Clara then married Russell K. Fadness on July 5, 1986. Some months after the passing of Russell on Aug. 30, 2008, Clara moved to Rochester to reside in the community with her daughter, Deborah and son, Richard. Clara was a “saint of a women,” a beautiful and talented woman with a devout faith and the utmost abundance of support and love for her family. Clara loved to bowl, golf, stitch and cook, and she was extraordinary at them all. Survivors include all her sons, Allan Renner of Estes Park, Colo., Kenneth (Judy A.) Renner of Clearmont, Mo., Donald (Judith B.) Patrick Young — Rochester A memorial service for Patrick Young will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Rochester Chapel. Mr. Tim Boyer will officiate. Mr. Young, 66, of Rochester, died Friday, June 7, 2013, at his home from complications of COPD and pulmonary fibrosis. Patrick Leonard Young was born Nov. 25, 1946, in Mitchell, S.D., the son of Leonard and Leona Young. Raised in Mitchell, he received a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. He met Kathy Langenfeld in Yankton, S.D., and the couple married on Dec. 27, 1969, in Carroll, Iowa. The couple Young moved to Peoria, Ill., and then in 1975 to Rochester. In Rochester, Patrick worked for Crawford and Company, and eventually became the manager of the office there, as well as the offices in Mankato and Marshall. Patrick retired in 2002 due to health concerns. Pat was happiest when spending time with his close-knit family. He also enjoyed playing pool, working in the yard, bird watching, animals, and he was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Bulls. He is survived by his wife, Kathy, of Rochester; two sons, Matt (Rebecca) Young of College Station, Texas, and Josh (Suzie) Young of Rochester; a daughter, Rachel Young and her fiance, Bryan Schnell of Rochester; four grandchildren, Brayden and Kale Young, and Grace and Phin Young; four sisters, Mary Kay (Norm) McNary of Hot Springs, Ark., Elizabeth (Spence) Zielenski of Sioux Falls, S.D., Susan (Tim Boyer) Young of Hot Springs, Ark., and Laurie (George) Ellis Young of KAUST Saudi Arabia; and two brothers, Michael (Glenda) Young of Santa Maria, Calif., and Tom (Kim) Young of Mitchell, S.D. Mylan was born Jan. 16, 1922, in Pine Island, to Owen and Monda (Odeen) Hart. Mylan moved to his farm in Salem Township in 1942. On June 24, 1944, he married Elaine Theel, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 20, 1990. Mylan was a lifetime dairy farmer and was a member of Assembly of God Church in Rochester. He loved old-time dancing, especially to the Top Notchmen or Rhythm Playboys, and enjoyed old country western music. Mylan also Hart loved animals, his Belgian horses, trail rides, telling stories, his Goldwing trike and his many collectible cars. Above all, Mylan loved spending time and making memories with his family. Mylan is survived by his children, Judylaine (Hiram) Luttmers of Byron, Richard (Betty) of Byron, Doris Marie (Mike) Hudson of Dodge Center, Duane (Mary Beth) of Rochester, Gene (DeeDee) of Byron; special friend and companion, Marlene Schrader of Byron; special friend, Robert Fenske of Byron; grandchildren, Steven Fenske, Jr., Shawn Smith, Jeri Hart, Jeff Hart, Mike Hudson, Jr., Tim Hudson, Erin Hart, Adam Hart, Paul Hart, Melissa Hart, and James Hart; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Philip of Rochester, and Delman (Laura) of Trenton, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends. Nicklay, 73, of Stewartville, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Simpson, with Father Matt Fasnacht officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Nicklay died at St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault Friday, June 7, 2013, from COPD. Paul had resided at St. Lucas Care Center for the past two years, after being transferred from the Stewartville Care Center. Paul Alfred Nicklay was born March 16, 1940, in Pleasant Grove Township, Olmsted County, to Alfred and Garna (King) Nicklay. He grew Nicklay up on the family farm, attended country school and Chatfield schools, graduating from Chatfield High School in 1958. He attended the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis, and was employed by Kirsch Fabric Co. in Minneapolis and Dallas, Texas, for many years. Paul returned to Minnesota and lived on the Nicklay family farm in Pleasant Grove, where he helped care for his parents. He was a member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, and enjoyed playing cards, board games and the dice game, Farkle. He loved time spent with all his family, especially his many nieces and nephews. Paul is survived by two sisters and three brothers, Suzanne (Wayne) Idso of rural Rochester, Allen (Nancy) Nicklay of Eden Prairie, Calvin (Deborah) Nicklay of Osage, Iowa, Rosemary (Reggie) Oeltjen of rural Stewartville, and Bruce (Lori) Nicklay of Winona; along with many nieces and nephews. Peter John Gadient — Lincoln, Neb. Father Peter John Gadient, 92, of Lincoln, Neb., formerly of Goodhue, died Thursday, June 6, 2013. Peter John Gadient was born June 9, 1920, in Goodhue Township, the son of David Sr. and Alfreda (Matter) Gadient. He was a retired priest and member of Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln. He was also a member of Legion of Mary, and Diocesan Building Commission. He was the moderator of Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, and spiritual director of Nebraska State Court Order of Foresters. He is survived by sister and brother, Regina Morelan, and Ray (Ruth) Gadient; brothers-inGadient law and sisters-in-law, Len Lodermeier, Louis Ward, Agnes Gadient, Kay Gadient, Shirley Gadient, Neta Gadient, and Berdell Gadient; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 10 siblings, Margaret, Bernard, William, and John Gadient, Rosemary Lodermeier, Katherine Ward, Frances Lodermeier, Gerald, David Jr., and Robert Gadient. Patricia J. Tuohy was born April 25, 1935, to Joseph F. and Teresa S. Tuohy of Chatfield. She was a 1953 graduate of Chatfield High School, and attended Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa. Patricia was a flight attendant with Capitol Airlines and flew the Minneapolis ‑ New York route on the “new” Viscount planes, one of the first turbo-jet airliners. She then worked in Rochester where she met her husband, Edward Williams. They lived in many cities through out the U.S., as Ed moved with his job as a stockbroker. Patricia was an accomplished musician who loved singing and playing the piano. She was a generous hostess who loved throwing parties for her large and beloved family. Patricia volunteered for many charitable organizations and was a very talented artist. She passed away Friday, March 22, 2013, at her residence in Las Vegas, Nev., after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Williams, parents, sister, Mary Suzanne and brothers, Peter and Richard. She is survived by her son, Edward P. Williams of Dallas, Texas; and daughters, Teresa and Molly Williams both of Los Angeles, Calif.; her sisters, Sara Carroll of Chanhassen, Margaret Carolan of Mendota Heights, and Jeanne Klabunde of Hastings; and brothers, Gerald of Bella Vista, Ark., F. Mike of Chatfield, John of Mendota Heights, Thomas of Saint Paul, James of North Oaks, Edward of Eyota, Bernard of Sunfish Lake, and Timothy of South Bend, Ind. Mrs. Lyman, 87, of Rochester, died Friday, June 7, 2013, after battling cancer at Seasons Hospice in Rochester. Juliana was born Oct. 31, 1925, in Ashland, Lyman Ohio, to Howard and Letha (Schear) Lee. She graduated from Clarion High School in Clarion, Iowa, in 1943. On Nov. 21, 1947, Juliana married Fred Lyman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone in Mason City, Iowa, and Davenport, Iowa, retiring in 1977 while working in Decorah, Iowa. She was a lifetime member of the Pioneer Club and is also a member of Olmsted United Methodist Church in Rochester. Juliana enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, bird watching and reminiscing with her husband. Fred worked many years for Interstate Power Company. She also enjoyed family get-togethers and Sunday morning coffee with her husband and son. Survivors include her husband, Fred; son, Ron (Linda) Lyman of Rochester; grandchildren, Tammi (Steve) Mosing of Rochester, Jenni (DJ) Horman of Eyota, Kathi (Jeremy) Hildman of Rochester, and Robert (Amy) Lyman of Edina; great-grandchildren, Abbie and Sophie Mosing; Emma and Carter Horman; Sybastyen, Tristyn, and Josiah Hildman. Juliana is also survived by her two sisters, Marian Schurtz and Dorothea Miller both of Kansas City, Mo.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
