Carol was born Oct. 28, 1931, in Austin, to Norman and Loretta (Miller) Kjome. She married Jacob Brady on June 30, 1951, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. Carol was employed at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in the kitchen and also Austin Public Schools as a Title One aide. Survivors include six sons, Michael (Pam) of Rochester, Patrick (Cheryl) of Fairbanks, Alaska, Tim (Michelle) of Austin, Dan (Cindy) of Austin, Terry (Shelli) of Stewartville, and Brady Brian (Beth) of Rochester; two daughters, Linda (Ed) Smith of Ottertail, and Peggy (Curt) Klingfus of Austin; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Karen (Al) Liffengren of Door County, Wis.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jake; grandson, Tyler Brady; parents, Norman and Loretta Kjome; and brother, Norman Kjome. Mom’s greatest love and joy were her husband, children and grandchildren. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin, with Father Jim Steffes officiating. There will be a 4 p.m. CCW rosary and a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Wednesday, May 15, at Mayer Funeral Home in Austin, where friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and also one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Austin. Milton Frederick Schumann was born April 27, 1926, in Eyota, to Frederick and Christina (Pries) Schumann. He died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at the Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth in Rochester. Schumann Milton graduated from Eyota High School. He married Rosella Green on June 18, 1949, in Racine, and the couple made their home in Rochester. Milton worked for Olmsted Federal Savings and Loan and took correspondence courses to receive his degree in accounting. He went to work for John Yeager, Sr., and later formed a partnership, Yeager and Schumann, which eventually became the firm of Schumann, Granahan, Hesse and Wilson, LTD. When Milton retired, the firm asked him to come back and work on a parttime basis. He enjoyed golfing and boating. He had his own houseboat “Gypsy Rose” on the Mississippi River in Wabasha. He was a member of the Coast Guard Flotilla 10-4 and Elks BPOE. He served on several boards including Home Federal Savings Bank and was a partner in ROTAB Corporation. Survivors include his wife, Rosella of Rochester; his daughter, Debra Schumann (Rick Dahl) of Rochester, and his son, Kim Schumann (Mary Hoffman) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother, Alfred (Margaret) Schumann of Eyota; and two sisters, Maxine Kahler of St. Charles, and Eileen Traeger of Mankato. In a display of remarkable strength and courage in her long battle with cancer, Carla was determined Hicks to reach her 50th birthday (May 2nd) and to see her son graduate from Loyola University in Chicago (May 10th). After reaching both of these goals, she went on to her eternal reward on Mother’s Day. Carla’s family wishes to express their gratitude for the amazing outpouring of support, care, vigils and compassion from Carla’s nieces, Stacy and Lori, and from her vast and loving network of friends. You know who you are, and you are all deeply appreciated. Carla was a beloved mother, sister, and friend to much of the community. She was born May 2, 1963, to Donald and Doris Hicks. She grew up and lived her entire life in Rochester. Along with many years spent in childcare, she was employed as the desk supervisor at the Rochester Athletic Club, where her smile and greetings warmed the lives of countless Rochester residents. Patricia (Owens) McNeil — Rochester Sandy Kay Rysted, 68, died May 2, 2013, at Gulfside Hospice Center at Bayonet Point, in Hudson, Fla., from complications of an asthma episode that occurred on April 24. Sandy Kay Rust was born to the late John William Rust and Wilma Gertrude Edwards Rust on Aug. 9, 1944, in Endicott, N.Y. The family moved to Rochester in 1957. Sandy graduated from John Marshall High School in Rochester in 1962. She married Carl J. Bauernfeind in 1964. They had two daughters and later divorced. She married Keith E. Rysted on Dec. 21, 1968, whom she had known since the 8th grade. Rysted She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Keith E. Rysted. She is also survived by her devoted family: daughters, Barbara Rysted, Diane Ackerman, Jackie (Bill) Arndt, and Julie (Aaron) Konkel; her grandchildren, William Hubbard-Rysted, Andrew and Kelsey Ackerman, Nicholas and Allison Arndt, Brett Kuehl, John Tanner Rysted, and Skylar Konkel; and her great-granddaughters, Abbygail Briggs, and Alyce Kuehl. She is also survived by her sisters, Sharon McCormack (Rex Machacek), and Debbie (Steve) Helgerson. She also leaves behind numerous loving friends and relatives. Hobbies included gardening, scrapbooking and genealogy. She recently launched the Facebook group page “Susquehanna County Genealogy Group.” Sandy also loved shopping and flea markets, and was always thinking of others when shopping. She always stated that her greatest accomplishment was her family. Rodney ‘Doc’ Richardson — Eau Claire, Wis. Rodney “Doc” Richardson, 82, of Eau Claire, Wis., passed away Sunday evening, May 12, 2013, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire. Doc was one of three children, born to Robert and Gladys (Lewis) on May 20, 1930, in Rochester. He was raised in the rural Rochester area and graduated from Elgin High School in 1948. After graduating, Doc married the mother of his children, Gerry Ewy. In 1983, Doc reconnected with his high school sweetheart and life partner, Myra (Crary). He loved to be outdoors fishing. Doc was also a regular at the casinos where he enjoyed time with friends and loved ones. Doc is survived by his wife, Myra; children, Eddie, Debbie, Chrissy, and Bobbie. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Terry, Nancy, John, Mike, and Randy. Doc is also blessed with several grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. A luncheon will follow. Patricia O. McNeil, 81, died at home surrounded by family Saturday, April 6, 2013, after battling metastatic breast cancer. Born in Minneapolis in 1931 to Raymond and Bertilla Owens, she graduated from Roosevelt High and studied home economics at the University of Minnesota. In 1953, she married William McNeil after he returned from active duty with the U.S. Navy. In 1956, they moved into McNeil married student housing on the St. Paul campus, where lifetime friendships were forged. They moved to Rochester in 1968 when Bill took a job with IBM. Patti had a flair for fashion and was a skilled seamstress — sketching from Dayton’s Oval Room collections to create clothes for her family — suits, coats, prom, bridesmaids and first communion dresses, and even a wedding gown. She loved decorating — sewed her own bedspreads and drapes and reupholstered furniture. But, her true passion was flower gardening. She was at her happiest digging in the dirt, creating a beautiful palette with her flowers, and taking visitors on a walk through her handiwork. She enjoyed golf and, in earlier years, tennis and downhill skiing. Until the last few months of her life, she participated in water aerobics where she had many good friends. Patti was an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. She volunteered with the Rochester Food Response program and at the Dorothy Day House.
