Don’t let flu
stop you caring
Did you know that as a carer, you may be eligible to receive
the flu vaccination?
The flu vaccine is available for free if you are aged 65 or over;
considered to be in a clinical ‘at risk’ group by your GP or are
living in a long-stay care facility (i.e. a residential care home)
where seasonal flu could spread easily and put lives at risk.
However, if you are concerned about the welfare of the person
you care for if they, or you were to get the flu, you may also be
entitled to receive the vaccine free of charge.
As the main carer for an elderly or disabled person or as someone who receives Carer’s Allowance, by explaining your concerns to a doctor they can make an informed decision about
your situation.
Contact your GP for more details on receiving the flu jab.
There are also some community pharmacies offering the flu jab,
ask your local pharmacist for details.
