CRAWFORD, RICHARD JAMES ‘RICK’
At his residence in Clarksburg and in the presence of loving family, Rick
passed away peacefully at the age of 63 on Monday, July 14, 2014.
Born in Toronto on May 7, 1951 Rick was a son of the late Olive Margaret
(née McCaulay) Crawford and Dr. Jack Crawford of Collingwood and he is
remembered also by Jack’s wife Margaret.
Rick was the beloved husband of the former Cheryl Lee Gilchrist of
Clarksburg and loved Dad of Ryan Crawford (Beverley Hotchkiss) of Niagara
and Matthew Crawford (Cynthia) of Meaford and was a Grampa to their
children Hannah and Brooklin.
He is also survived by his brother John Crawford (Deb) of Lagoon City and
Thomas Crawford (Lynda) of Oakville.
He will be remembered also by his father-in-law Orval Gilchrist of Alliston
and was predeceased by his mother-in-law Lois.
Rick was a brother-in-law to Steven Gilchrist (Linda Kerst) of Meaford.

Sheila Ann Brown, formerly of Clarksburg, passed away peacefully with her
family by her side at Sunset Manor in Collingwood on Tuesday, May 27, 2014
at the age of 80.
Sheila was predeceased by her husband Clare Brown and her son Stephen
Brown.
Sheila was the loving mother of Andrew Brown (Zydana), Peter Brown
(Mary), and grandmother of Chantelle, Eric and Scot.
She is survived by her brother Don McCartney, and fondly remembered by her
nieces and nephews.

SMITH, E. LOUISE ‘COOKIE BOOKER’
Louise, affectionately known as ‘Cookie’ by many, passed away in
Collingwood on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the age of 91.
She was born in Meaford, a daughter of the late William and Ethel (nee
Gibson) Booker.
Louise married ‘Mac’ Smith of Thornbury and they formed a loving marriage
and companionship since August of 1943 supporting each other at home and in
business while raising their family. Their retirement home at Eastwind on the
shores of Georgian Bay was shared with family and friends.
She is survived by her son Robert Smith (Judith Ann) of Calgary, Peter M.
Smith of Boise, Idaho, and Jeffrey A. Smith (Katherine) of Toronto.
She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren: Darryl, Jessie, Alexandra, and
MacKenzie Smith.
Louise was predeceased by her sister Helen Bell of Toronto.
Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of her life and
disposition of her ashes will be conducted at the family home at Eastwind.

April 26, 1933 – June 27, 2014
Peter Graydon Lush, real estate icon, visionary and proud owner and developer
of Cedar Run Horse Park has died at home in Thornbury, Ontario at age 81
from cancer. Survived by his wife Flora (nee Wakefield), and his children
Valerie (Bill) and John (Mani), stepchildren Kim (Dave) and Sarah (Darren),
dear brother Barry Lush, and predeceased by his
sister Barbara Buzza (Lush); also, a proud
grandfather of Maris, Eliot, Eve, Matthew,
Emerson, Ella, Ryan and Jack. Born and raised
in Burlington, Ontario, Peter spent his early
career building a company in his hometown, the
Lush Corporation which, in the early 1990s,
included over 40 associated companies focused
on real estate sales and commercial development with regional offices in
Ontario and Germany. He has been recognized for building the Sunlife
Commercial Complex, Upper Canada Place and the first major hotel (Holiday
Inn) in Burlington, ON. Past positions include: President of the International
Real Estate Federation, President of the Hamilton Real Estate Board, Vice
President of the Ontario Real Estate Association and Chairman of the Hamilton
Harbour Commission. Committed to community development, he also served
as Treasurer to the PC Canada Fund, Chairman of the Ontario Mental Health
Foundation, and raised the funds needed to construct the first YMCA in
Burlington, ON. Past owner and proud member of The Georgian Peaks Ski
Club and former treasurer of the America’s Cup Challenge True North, Peter
embraced his adventurous and active spirit by sailing throughout the Caribbean
and the Mediterranean and skiing in Ontario and Europe. He was a member of
Equine Canada and loved riding his horses and working on his farm in

TAYLOR, CHARLES ALLAN ‘ARCHIE’
Al Taylor, a long time resident of Thornbury, passed away peacefully at
Errinrung Nursing Home on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the age of 95.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Isabel (née Brown) in 1983.
Al was the much loved father of Linda Dubé and her
husband Jim of Thornbury, and Murray Taylor of
Clarksburg.
He was the Grandpa of Rob Dubé and his partner
Alycia Jackson of Clarksburg, and Kevin Dubé and
his wife Sarah of Kitchener, and ‘GG’ to their
children Jonathan and Charlotte.
Al was predeceased by his brother Mitchell and will
be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Dorothy
Taylor of Thornbury.
A funeral service will be conducted at the First Baptist Church in Thornbury on
Monday, June 9th at 11 o’clock with a service of committal and interment to
follow at Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery.

Born in Toronto on February 4, 1951, a daughter of the late Adolph and
Bertha (née Crilly) Kucejko, Donna, the beloved wife of Stephen Cooper of
Meaford and formerly of Clarksburg, passed away at the family home in
Clarksburg on Thursday, December 19, 2013, at the age of 62.
She will be remembered as a loved mother by their son Shawn Cooper (Krista)
of Whistler, BC and grandmother of his children Ben and Jaxon.
Donna was a dear sister to Sandra (Michael) Powers of Omemee and Wanda
(Donald) Scharf of North York.
She is also survived by her brother-in-law Ed Cooper of Wasaga Beach and
will be fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews.
Donna’s family expresses their sincere gratitude to the friends and neighbours
in the community and the many support staff and services who were so
thoughtful and caring assisting Donna and allowing her to remain in her home
during the time of her illness.

CARSCADDEN, NEIL JOHN
Neil passed away suddenly on Monday, May 26, 2014. He will be sadly missed by his
wife Diane, children Christina (Fred) and Scott, and treasured grandsons Fredrik and
William Eaton. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Kay Chown, of Brantford, and
siblings Barbara (Les), Gary (the late Margie), Keith (Margaret) and Lorne (Mary).
Born in Manitoba in 1942, Neil was educated at Royal Military
College and Ohio State University (MSc). After graduating
from RMC, he served as a Captain in the Canadian Air Force at
Wright Patterson Air Force base in Ohio during the Vietnam
War. Neil started his business career in computer software at
IBM. He became a partner of DMR Consulting, and eventually
founded his own software consulting company, working on
major software projects for the Canadian banks, and other
institutions around the world.
His modesty, drive and
discipline set a positive example for everyone around him.
An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hiking, biking, sailing and skiing until the end. An active
billiard player, he will be missed by his friends from the billiard club. He was an early
member at the Georgian Peaks Club, a former member of the Royal Canadian Military
Institute, and an active member of Rotary Club in Thornbury. Neil’s pride and joy, above
all, were his grandsons Fredrik & William. He spent many happy days with them,
playing at the park, skiing, listening to music, and building LEGO.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial funeral service celebrating Neil’s life will be
conducted at St. George’s Anglican Church, 166 Russell Street in Clarksburg, on
Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11:30 a.m.

Jane Ravensdale of Town of The Blue Mountains passed away peacefully at
her home with her loving husband Bruce by her side on May 13, 2014 at the
age of 65.
She was born in Kitchener on May 19, 1948, a daughter of
the late Len and Beulah (née Koehler) Hopkins.
Jane was cherished by Bruce’s children Michael Ravensdale
(Katherine) and Andrea Maeck (Ryan), and by her
grandchildren Acacia and Isla. She will be missed by her
brother-in-law Warren Tiffin and by family members Tony,
Kathy and Chelsea Ravensdale, Susan and Howard Malis,
Kendra, Khary and Gus Jones, Jerry Ravensdale and Midge
Ravensdale. She was predeceased by her sister Martha
Tiffin.

Louise was predeceased by her beloved husband Harold
‘Skin’ Abbotts in March 2001 and is remembered as the
loving mother of Bill Abbotts and his wife Susan of
Thornbury, Harold J. Abbotts and his wife Beth of
Wasaga Beach, and Jill and her husband Harvie Reekie
of Clarksburg.
She will be the sadly missed Gramma, Nana and great
grandmother of Joe Abbotts and his wife Jessica of
Toronto and their children Rylie and Fiona; Jennifer
Abbotts of Toronto; and Caroline Abbotts also of Toronto; Melissa and her
husband Paul Sproule of Collingwood and their children Lincon and Tatum;
Kristen and her husband Mike Hartleib of Collingwood and their children
Nixon and Farrah; Billie-Jo and her husband Darrell Saunders of Goring and
their children Madison, Logan and Cooper; Melanie Reekie of Airdrie, AB;

and by her brother Bill Colbourn in 2005.
Beth was the much loved sister of Mary and her
husband Ron Lunau of Lakefield, ON and Charlie
Colbourn and his wife Violet Syrotiuk of Phoenix,
AZ. She will be sadly missed by her nieces and
nephews: Kate Lunau and Mitch Chan, Janet and
Jeremy Winkels, Ben Colbourn and Kelly and

Susie Colbourn and Simon Miles, and Sarah Colbourn. She will be

NICOLSON, DONALD ROY
Born in Langton, a son of the late William and Jean (née Robertson) Nicolson,
Don passed away from complications after a courageous battle with Lung
Cancer on Thursday April 10, 2014 in his 82nd year.
An engineering student at Queen’s and a graduate of the
Photographic Arts Program at Ryerson, Don had a
photography studio in Brantford from 1961 to 1978.
After relocating to Thornbury he continued to be an
entrepreneur by opening Georgian Frame Gallery in
Collingwood. After retiring from the business he worked
part time for his daughter Margot who carried on with
the family business; he continued assisting her until last
year. Volunteerism and community were a very big part
of Don’s life beginning as a Queen’s Scout Master in
Langton, and continuing as the President of Brant Figure
Skating Club, a member of the Kiwanis Club of
Brantford and later the Collingwood Progress Club, a
member of the Collingwood Museum Board, Grace United Church Board and
more recently President and member of the Beaver Valley Seniors Curling
Club. Professionally Don was on the Board of the Professional Photographers
of Ontario and was a founding member of the Professional Photographers of
Canada. In his retirement Don curled and golfed, being a member at Duntroon
Highlands Golf Club. He was very active in the Clan MacNicoll, was the
Commissioner of Highland Games for the Clan in Ontario for several years
and he and his wife Elizabeth travelled to many clan gatherings in Canada and
to Scotland. He and Elizabeth travelled extensively in their retirement and
Don tended to his beautiful gardens, played internet chess with a buddy from
Tillsonburg, created many solutions to make Elizabeth’s life easier after a
debilitating stroke and loved the CFL. His lifelong hobby of cabinetry led him
to always have a project on the go for his daughters and later it led to model
ship building.
Donald was the beloved husband of Elizabeth who passed away in August
2013 and will be remembered as the cherished Dad of Carla Nicolson and her
husband Doug Johnston of Thornbury and Margot Nicolson and her husband
Cam Trott of Collingwood. He was the adored and devoted granddad of Tori
and Alex Johnston and step-grandfather of Weston Trott and his wife Saren and
their son Xavier, Courtney Trott and Evan Trott.
Brothers Douglas and Bruce predeceased Donald and he will be remembered
as the much loved and caring uncle to Ron Nicolson of Calgary and Mary Jean
and Anne Nicolson of Toronto.
Cremation has taken place and friends are invited to gather for a memorial
celebration of Donald’s life, officiated by Reverend Thérèse Samuel,
conducted at Grace United Church in Thornbury, on Thursday, April 17, 2014
at 1:30 pm. A further time of refreshment and remembrances will be shared at
the Nicolson home following the service.

LEEDHAM, NORMAN EDWARD
Norman Leedham passed away peacefully at Errinrung Nursing Home in
Thornbury on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at the age of 87. He was born on April
10, 1926, in the Swansea District of Toronto. He was the eldest child of the
late Thomas and Bertha (née Coe) Leedham.
Norm attended Western Technical School in Toronto and
upon completion he joined the Royal Canadian Navy in
1943 and served until the end of WWII. Post war he
took his apprenticeship at Stelco Swansea Works and
learned his trade as a tool and die maker. In 1950 he
and his business partner founded Leeson & Baxter Ltd.
which he successfully owned and operated for more
than 40 years until his retirement. After retirement
Norm took up permanent residence on the shore of
Georgian Bay in Craigleith. His favorite pastime was
fishing. He also enjoyed spending winters in Okeechobee, Florida. He took up
woodcarving and became quite accomplished; his work was always in demand.
As a member of the Rotary Club he loved the camaraderie, the kibitzing, but
most importantly being able to give back to the community.
Left to celebrate his memory is his wife Doris Leona ‘Lee’ Leedham of
Thornbury, his sons Ken Leedham (Keri-Lyn) and Glenn Leedham (Dianne),
his sister Lois Murison (John), and his brother-in-law Lynn Chaulk. Norm is
also survived by his son through marriage, Dale Hewgill (late Betty), and by
their children Ryan and Megan and by his daughter through marriage, Pam
Hewgill. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews and
their families. Norm was predeceased by his sister Joyce Chaulk in 2008 and
his stepmother Isabel in 1999.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Norm’s Life will take place at
a later date this year.

SANGSTER, ALEXANDER HARVEY
Longtime Thornbury resident, businessman and baker, Harvey Sangster,
passed away at Errinrung Nursing Home in Thornbury on Saturday, March 1,
2014 at the age of 88.
Harvey was born in Howick Township on December 6, 1925, a son of the late
Edith (née Milligan) and John Sangster.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife and partner Jean Viola (née
McAllister) in 1997 and is lovingly remembered by their children: Charlie
Sangster and his wife Gwen of Utterson, Betty VanderLinden (late Bill Nixon
and late Dale VanderLinden) of Clayhurst, BC, Lyndia and her husband Gerald
Jackson of RR 1, Clarksburg, and Brenda (late Terry) Brasier of Lindsay. A
son, Richard Sangster, predeceased Harvey in 2010.
He will be missed as the Grandfather of five granddaughters, four grandsons,
seven great granddaughters and eleven great grandsons.
He is also remembered by his brother Robert ‘Bob’ Sangster and his partner
Carol of Port Elgin and was predeceased by a brother Ken Sangster and is
survived also by his sister-in-law Florence ‘Flori’ Sangster of Listowel.
In keeping with Harvey’s expressed wishes, cremation has taken place and a
family graveside service and interment of his ashes will be conducted at
Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery at a later date.

Born in East York Township on July 9, 1953, the loved daughter of Marjorie
(née Brenner) and the late William “Bill” Thomas Pingle of Toronto, Linda

age of 60.
Linda will be sadly missed by Wally Brinson of
Clarksburg who was her partner of 40 years.

Born in Toronto, a son of Andrew and Jess (née Sharkey) Stevens, Brad, a
resident of Thornbury, passed away unexpectedly at the Meaford Hospital on
Friday, February 14, 2014, at the age of 60.
He was a brother to Murray Stevens and his wife
Dianne of Uxbridge and Drew Stevens.

Born in Osprey Township, a daughter of the late Les and Justina (née Ellis)
McMullen, Shirley, formerly of Holland Centre, passed away peacefully at
Grey Gables Nursing Home in Markdale on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the
age of 84.
Shirley was predeceased by her beloved husband Wes Hindle on August 11,
2002.
She is remembered as the dear mother of Pat Genoe and her partner Ray
Coburn of Markdale and was predeceased by a daughter Sharon in 1969.
Shirley will be lovingly remembered by Andy, Detchena and Adam Genoe and
by her extended family Irene (Laverne) Fogal and family.

Malcolm passed away suddenly while on vacation in Jamaica, on Thursday

Edna (née Markle) Rolling, formerly of Thornbury, passed away at Grey Bruce
Health Services in Meaford on Monday, January 6, 2014, at the age of 86.

Tuesday, December 31, 2013, Imogene passed away at the age of 77.
Born in Collingwood Township, she was a daughter of the

Imogene was the beloved wife of Ralph Rice and was
predeceased by her former husband J. Ronald Sheridan in
1993.
She was the cherished mother of Carol Kollen and her

wife Louise of Blue Mountains, Tom Sheridan and his wife
Stephanie of Thornbury, Bonnie and her husband Brad
Parkes of Nottawa and Richard Sheridan and his wife Lori of
Angus. A daughter, Rhonda, predeceased Imogene. She will be remembered also as
a step-mother to Marsha and her husband Paul Rankin of Feversham.
She was a loving grandmother to Chris and Leah Fortune and their son Elijah, Brian
and Lianna Fortune, Matthew Sheridan, Melissa, Tracy and David Sheridan, Abbey
and Robert Parkes, Bridget and Madeline Sheridan and Hannah and Tim Rankin.
Imogene was predeceased by her siblings Lorne Hewgill, Margaret (late Bob) Turner,

Rita was the much loved mother of Johanne and Claudia and the loving
grandmother of Jessika and Jolyne.

HUTCHISON, SELENIA SARAH
Born in Artemesia Township on December 21, 1925, a daughter of the late
Fred and Hazel (née Porteous) Duckett, Selenia passed away at the Meaford
Long Term Care Centre on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the age of 88.
Selenia and her husband Bernell Hutchison farmed near Ravenna for many
years where they raised their children. Selenia was an active member of St.
George’s Anglican Church and the Guild there while she was able. Following
the death of her husband Bernell in 1994 Selenia moved to Lemon Court in
Thornbury where she resided for many years and she will be missed by her
friends and neighbours there and in that community.
Selenia is survived by her sons Douglas (Margaret) Hutchison of Campbell
River, Vancouver Island, BC and Brent Hutchison (Jackie Armstrong) of
Chatsworth. She was predeceased also by a son Vernon.
She will be missed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren Derek
(Vickie) Hutchison and their children Dustin and Amy; Denise (Wade) Tibbett
and their children Dana and Tanner, and Darren Hutchison (Kimberley) and
children Dayton and Daelynn, and by Alyssa, Brandon and Cassie Hutchison.
Selenia is also survived by a sister Shirley Ward (late George) of Maple Ridge,
Vancouver Island, BC and she was predeceased by a brother Fred Duckett of
Eugenia and sisters Mabel Sewell (late Carman) of Vandeleur, Leone Betts
(late Norval) of Flesherton, and Gladys Ross of Mississauga and is
remembered by Gladys’ husband Jim Ross of Vancouver.

Hans Wilhem Sell, 79, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday October
8, 2013 at Meaford Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on
October 13, 1933 to Hans Theodor Gustauv Sell and Annemarie Sell (née

Hans will be truly missed by his wife of 34 years Helga, his three sons, Hans

Aleda was predeceased by her beloved husband
Mervyn Kinsey in March 1981.
She is remembered as the much loved Mom of Steven
Kinsey and Anne Kinsey-Jansen (Tonny) of
Whitehorse, Yukon and grandmother of Andrew
Jansen of Edmonton, Alberta.
Aleda is survived by one sister, Donelda Baroli, of
Reno, Nevada. She was predeceased by sisters Viola,
Dora, Gladys, Clara and Margaret and by brothers
Nelson, Henry, George and Emerson. She will be the
fondly remembered aunt of several nieces and
nephews and their families.
Cremation has taken place and family will receive friends at the Ferguson
Funeral Home, The Valley Chapel, in Thornbury on Saturday, October 12th
from noon until 1:30 p.m. when a time of special remembrances and tributes
celebrating Lee’s life will be shared at 1:30.
A further time of reflection and memories and refreshment may be enjoyed by
all in the Fellowship Hall of Thornbury First Baptist Church immediately
following the memorial celebration.
A private family interment of Aleda’s ashes will take place at Thornbury
Clarksburg Union Cemetery on Tuesday where her ashes will be interred with
her late husband.

McPHEE, ROBERT JOHN ‘BOB’
Bob McPhee of Lake Eugenia, passed away at the Residential Hospice Grey
Bruce in Owen Sound on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, in his 58th year.
He is remembered by his father Ralph McPhee and his
partner Tina Andersen of Meaford. He was predeceased
by his mother Betty McPhee on October 1, 2004.
Bob was a loving husband of Anne McMeekin of Lake
Eugenia and the much loved father of Nathan of
Collingwood and Melinda, at home in Lake Eugenia.
Bob was a dear brother of Don and his wife Eileen of
Listowel, Ron and his wife Sharon of Barrie, Paul and
his wife Laura of New Hamburg, and Brian and his wife
Peggy of Winnipeg. He is also survived by his father-inlaw Ken (late Iris) McMeekin of Sauble Beach and brother-in-law Brad
McMeekin and his partner Val McLean of Tara.
He will be fondly recalled by several nieces and nephews and their families
and was predeceased by a niece Carla McPhee.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Bob’s life will be held at the
Marsh Street Centre in Clarksburg on Friday October 4th, 2013 from 1 until 5
p.m. and where special remembrances will be shared at 2 p.m.
A private family disposition of Bob’s ashes will be conducted at a later date.

GREEN, PATRICIA MARY
Born in England, a daughter of the late George and Constance Bliss, Patricia
Green of Meaford and formerly of Heathcote, passed away in Meaford on
Friday, September 13, 2013 in her 89th year.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Vernon
Green in July 2002 and is remembered as the much
loved mother and grandmother of David Green and his
wife Linda of Mount Forest, Susan Watson of Rothsay,
NB and her children Christopher, Brittannie and Alex,
and Judy Green Morrill and her husband Rob of
Collingwood and her children Ryan and Bradley
Anderson.
Patricia is remembered also as a dear sister by her
brother George and sisters Dulcie and Janet and she was
predeceased by a sister Margaret and by a brother Allan, all of England.
A sister-in-law Ruby Green of Meaford also survives Patricia and she will be
the fondly remembered aunt of several nieces and nephews and their families.
Cremation has taken place and family will receive friends at the Ferguson
Funeral Home, The Valley Chapel, 20 Alice St. E. in Thornbury on Tuesday
evening from 7 until 9 o’clock.
A memorial funeral service officiated by Reverend Thérèse Samuel will be
conducted at Grace United Church, Bruce St. S. in Thornbury on Wednesday
September 18th at 11 a.m.
Interment of ashes will take place at Thornbury Clarksburg Union Cemetery.

MORRIS, BEATRICE MAE
Mae Morris, beloved wife of the late John Elmer Morris (1988) of Thornbury,
passed away peacefully at Errinrung Residence in Thornbury on Monday,
September 2, 2013 at the age of 81.
Mae was born in Collingwood, a daughter of the late Russell and Laura (née
Jenkins) Doherty.
She is remembered as the loved mother of Cathy and her husband Jim
Carscadden of RR 1, Clarksburg and Brian Morris of Thornbury and his
partner Dawn Wilkins.
Mae is survived also by four grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a private family interment of her ashes will be
conducted at Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery.
