WEST-YEN, MARLENE TERESA
October 27, 1947 – March 6, 2015
Marlene passed away quietly at Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen
Sound after a brief illness. She will be remembered as the loving wife of JC
and devoted stepmother of Sandra (Trevor) and Kathy (Michael); proud and
adoring Popo to Jonathan (Erin).
Marlene will be sadly missed by her mother Margaret
Ough and siblings Carole (Karl), Susan (Joanne), Chris
(Donna), Mary (Roy) and Patricia (Jeremy) and her
many nieces and nephews who were crazy about
her. She was predeceased by her father Albert (Bert)
West and dear sister Kathryn.
Marlene was born in Toronto but made her home in the
Beaver Valley over 25 years ago where she continued in
a career she was passionate about… as an educator with
the Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board. After retiring, she devoted
herself to volunteer work, most notably with the Beaver Valley Outreach in
Thornbury. She will be fondly remembered by colleagues, students, friends
and relatives from here, Toronto and beyond.
“Her character and her spirit will not go unnoticed. She was one of the most
considerate, loving, and compassionate people that I have ever known. There
is so much gratitude that we can show for having the honour to see Marlene's
outstanding conviction, philanthropy, and love. I am grateful to have witnessed
such altruism and I am saddened that the world has lost such a beautiful spirit.

FISHER, CHRISTINE JOYCE
In loving memory of Christine Joyce Fisher who passed peacefully away at her
home in Clarksburg on Thursday, February 26th 2015 in the company of her
loving husband of 47 years, Ralph Fisher.
Joyce was born in Radisson Saskatchewan on December
5th 1943, a daughter of the late Louis Burzynski and
Hazel (Laycock) Burzynski .
Joyce was eternally optimistic, always seeing the bright
side of things. She had a warm and welcoming smile, a
friendly hello, and time to chat with everyone she met.
Joyce will be sadly missed by her son Dan Fisher and
his partner Laura Euesden and by her daughter Karen
Fisher Girdwood and son-in-law Craig Girdwood.
Joyce was the proud Grandmother of Teal Fisher,
Nelson Hayhurst, William, Benjamin and Katelin Girdwood.
Siblings Shirley Newell, Wayne Burzinksi, Faye Pozdin, Marion Hougham,
Luella Kaye, Karen Amundrud, and Darryl Burzynski and their spouses will
miss Joyce terribly. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces,
nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues.
A private service will be held for immediate family.

Street Community Centre in Clarksburg on Saturday March 7th, 2015 between

WOODHOUSE, LLOYD ALFRED JOSEPH
Born in Euphrasia Township on September 5, 1922, a son of the late Frederick and Violet (née
Dobson) and stepson of the late May (née Fiddis) Woodhouse, Lloyd passed away at the Meaford
Hospital on Tuesday February 24, 2015 at the age of 92
Lloyd is survived by his beloved wife Jean (née Murray) and the
couple were longtime residents of the Heathcote and area
communities.
He is lovingly remembered as Dad, Papa and
Grampa by his children Dale and her husband John Burgess of
Meaford and their children Steven and his wife Lacey and Patty
Burgess; Jeff Woodhouse and his fiancée Kathy Pecjak also of
Meaford and their children Samantha, Mira, Ginny and Meagan;
and Russ Woodhouse and his wife Terria of Creemore and their
children Emma and Megan. He is remembered fondly also by
Marnie Woodhouse of Heathcote. Lloyd was predeceased by a
grandson Mark Carscadden.
He was a dear brother of Harold Woodhouse and his wife June of Heathcote and was predeceased
by his brother Arnold ‘Arnie’ Woodhouse of Euphrasia Township and his wives Wilma and
Dorothy; and by his sister Doris and her husband Reg Cann of St. Vincent Township.
Lloyd is also survived by sisters-in-law Eleanor ‘Bunny’ Boyle, Lorraine Murray (late R.J.
Murray), and sister-in-law Joyce Fothergill (late Art) of Meaford.
He will be recalled as a special uncle by his many nieces and nephews and their families.
Lloyd’s family will receive friends at the Ferguson Funeral Home, The Valley Chapel in
Thornbury on Thursday from 4:30 until 8 p.m. Royal Canadian Legion Branch 281 Beaver
Valley will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.

2015 at 11:00 a.m. where family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.

COLBURN, MARIE-LOUISE ‘MARLOU’
Born in Celle Germany on November 4, 1920, ‘Marlou’, a resident of
Errinrung Nursing Home in Thornbury, passed away peacefully there on
Sunday February 22, 2015 at the age of 94.
She is remembered as the loved mother of Hans Brachvogel of Bobcaygeon,
Uli Brachvogel of Cobourg, Hanne Bern of Germany, Chris Graham of
Collingwood, and Thomas Schneider of Clarksburg.
Grandmother “Omi” to eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and
one great-great grandchild.
Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of Marlou’s life

MARSHALL, FREDERICK WALTER
Fred Marshall of Ravenna passed away peacefully at the Collingwood General
and Marine Hospital on Friday February 13, 2015 in his 81st year.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Marilyn (née
Wiseman) in 2002.
Fred was the cherished father of Lynda and Karl
Bumstead of Stratford and John and Diane Marshall of
Dauphin, Manitoba.
He was the wonderful Grandpa of David and Jessica
Bumstead and Logan, Joshua and Matthew Marshall.
Fred was the dear brother of Elsa Wellman. He will be
fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, inlaws, friends and neighbours. Fred was predeceased by his siblings Gordon
Marshall, Harvey Marshall, Isla Meredith, and Doris Mullin.

MULVIHILL, JAMES ‘BRIAN’
Brian passed away suddenly in Thornbury on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at the
age of 80.
He was the husband and inseparable partner to Sandra
(née Laporte). Brian was the loving father to his
greatest treasure, Tracy Ann, who predeceased him in
2010. He was a mentor, worrier and most importantly,
friend to his grandson, Connor James Mulvihill
O’Brien.
He was a beloved brother to Gloria, Ted, Sylvia and
Monica, and will be remembered fondly as a brotherin-law, uncle and friend to many.

CATHRYNE LYNNE “CATHY” AUSSANT
Cathy passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at her home in Thornbury on
Saturday evening, January 24, 2015 at the age of 55.
She will be remembered as the loving mother and best
friend of Ashley and loved partner of Allan Bayliss and
as ‘second mom’ to Karinna.
She will be sadly missed by her parents Peter and
Margaret Aussant of Meaford and sisters Debbie
Fletcher (Ed) of Everett, Carrie Innes (Michael) of
Aurora and Laurie Kaczmarczyk (Mark) of Guelph.
Cathy was a dear aunt of Ryan (Anneh), Dan
(Samantha), Jamie, Cole, Kaitlyn and Maggie and
special great aunt of Brody and Myah.
Cathy is also survived and fondly remembered by several aunts, uncles and
cousins.
As were Cathy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no
visitation. A private disposition of Cathy’s ashes will be conducted at a later

1924 - 2015
Joan died peacefully at Campbell House Hospice in Collingwood on January
1, 2015 where she was cared for lovingly.
She leaves four children: Bruce, Donna, Nancy and
Randy; four grandchildren: Brittany, Brennan, Caitlin and
Shanna and her husband of sixty six years, Peter.
Joan lived a long, useful and active life enjoying skiing
and tennis and she is remembered for playing a ‘mean
game of bridge’.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service
celebrating Joan’s life, officiated by Reverend Thérèse
Samuel, will be conducted at Grace United Church, Bruce
St. S., in Thornbury on Wednesday January 7th, 2015 at 11 a.m.

Born in Owen Sound on May 20, 1920, Malcolm Bruce McLeod, son of the late
James Pryor and Myra Prudence (nee Harris) McLeod, died peacefully at
Maple View Long Term Care in Owen Sound on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at
the age of 94.
Sandy was predeceased by his beloved wife M. Helen
McLeod (nee Robertson) on February 6, 2012 and he is
remembered with love by their children Margaret and her
husband Michael Atkins of Meaford, Nancy Walker and
her partner Alain Lafleche of Navan, Marion Maddeaux
of Welland and Ken McLeod and his wife Ji Yeon Ko of
South Korea. Sandy was predeceased by a son Bruce
McLeod of the former St. Vincent Township and is
remembered by his daughter-in-law Pam of Likely, BC.
Sandy will be sadly missed by his 15 grandchildren and 18 greatgrandchildren.
He was predeceased also by an infant sister Margaret in India, brother Norman
McLeod (late Gert), and sister Mabel (late Bob) McLeod and by sister-in-law
Ruth (late Duncan) Kingsbury, and brother-in-law Bert (late Grace) Robertson.
Sandy will be fondly remembered by his several nieces and nephews and their

JAMES ROBERT ‘JIM’
Jim Craig was born on June 3, 1941 in Port Rowan, Ontario, a son of the late
Jack and Gladys (née Smith) Craig. He passed away at his home in
Clarksburg on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the age of 73.
Jim was the beloved husband of Nancy Craig (née Lampkin) of Clarksburg.
He is survived by his children David, Robert, Sheila, Lisa, Kathryn and was
predeceased by his son James. He was the grandfather of 14 and great
grandfather of 6.
He will be fondly remembered by his sisters Jackie, Mary, Gerry, Susan,
Kimberly and their families.

McMURCHY, DONALD BRUCE
Donald passed away at his home in Thornbury on Monday, December 1, 2014 at the age
of 88 years. He was the youngest son of the late Ivo J and Millie (née Collins) McMurchy
who farmed on the 8th Concession of the former Collingwood Township, now Town of the
Blue Mountains.
Don lived his entire life in the Beaver Valley and maintained a
special interest in the local farming activities of his family. In
1952 he moved with his parents to Thornbury where he resided
until his death.
He is predeceased by his parents, his brothers Frank (and Jean),
Harold (and Freda) and by his sister Jean (and Francis
McKinlay) all of whom lived their entire lives in the Beaver
Valley and Thornbury area as well.
He is lovingly remembered by his nephews and nieces and their
spouses: John (and Pat) McMurchy of Thornbury, Harvey (and Sylvia) McMurchy of
R.R. #2 Clarksburg, Sharanne (and Rod) MacDonald of London Ontario, Grant (and
Nida) McMurchy of R.R. # 2 Clarksburg, James (and Joan) McKinlay of R.R. #1
Ravenna, Elizabeth McKinlay (David Morris) of R.R. #2 Owen Sound, and Rosemary
(and Ken) Mitchell of R. R. #1 Annan. He will also be remembered by the succeeding
generation of great nephews and nieces.
Grace United Church in Thornbury was his second family where he was a regular
member of the choir.

THATCHER, JOYCE SATOMI (née Yamamoto)
Joyce (Jo) Thatcher of Thornbury passed away peacefully at home with her family by
her side on Friday, November 28, 2014 at the age of 80.
A dedicated and energetic organizer of people, causes, and events, Jo was an active
community volunteer and leader in the Thornbury area
for 40 years. She was a high school and university
physical education teacher and local gymnastics coach.
She was a dedicated volunteer with local schools, the
Beaver Valley Agricultural Society and the Georgian
Triangle Quilters Guild. Jo also spent several years as a
foreman of Thornbury apple orchards and in recent years
operated JoT Designed custom sewing. She has touched
and inspired many people in the community.
She will be remembered for her caring and creative nature, boundless energy, skill in
mentoring others, ability to connect with people of all ages, and her fun-loving sense
of humour.
Jo will be sadly missed by husband Jim, children Jay (Mieke Fraser) and Jill (John
Pedlar); sisters Elsie Matsumura (predeceased), Lil Tajiri, and May Matsumiya; and
brother Ken Yamamoto, along with their families. Jo was a special aunt to several
Yamamoto and Thatcher nieces and nephews. She was proudest of her time spent
with her four granddaughters: Claire and Naomi Thatcher, and Sadie and Rosa Pedlar.

Born in Collingwood Township, a daughter of the late Robert and Mary (née
Teed) Irwin, Eleanor passed away at Errinrung Residence on Thursday
November 13, 2014 at the age of 86.
Eleanor was predeceased by her beloved husband
Leonard Kennedy on November 21, 2005 and she is
remembered as the much loved mother of Brian

Born April 29, 1934, a daughter of the late Arthur and Edith (née Boyce)
Wilson of Artemesia Township, Leona passed away unexpectedly at Grey Bruce
Health Services in Owen Sound on Saturday October 11, 2014 at the of 80.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Frank
Seymour in January 2008 and is remembered as the
loving Mom of John Seymour and his wife Nancy and
Brenda and her husband Doug Hewgill all of RR 1
Clarksburg.
She will be the sadly missed Gramma and Great
Gramma of Trish and her husband Vaughn Primeau of
Bowmanville and their children Morgan and Hannah;
Ashley and her husband Kevin Moulton of Kitchener
and their daughter Norah; Morgan Hewgill and his
wife Sarah of Meaford and their children Matthew and Avery; Darren Hewgill

Born in Belgium on November 9, 1930, a son of the
late Jean Pierre and Octavia (née Wuyts) Beuckx,
Joseph ‘Joe’ Beuckx of Thornbury, passed away at the
Meaford Hospital on Friday, October 10, 2014 at the
age of 83.
Joe was the father and grandfather of Christian and his
daughter Candice of Halifax, Patricia and her family of
St. Catharines, Joe and his family also of Halifax and
Nancy and her husband Tony and their son Marc of
Niagara-on-the-Lake
Joe will be remembered as a dear friend of David and his
wife Betty Slade of Town of Blue Mountains and also by
their children Michael Slade and his girlfriend Megan
Ewing and Andrew Slade and his wife Sheena.
There’s no doubt to anyone who knew Joe that his loyal dog
and travelling companion “Pogi” will miss his presence and
caring so very much as well.

RACICOT, JAMES WILFRED
Born in Toronto on May 26, 1933, a son of Joseph Eugene and Louisa Pearl
(nee Ringlaw) Racicot, Jim passed away on Wednesday October 1, 2014 at the
age of 81.
James Racicot will be remembered as a good man. After growing up in a
packed house on Beechwood Avenue in Toronto with six brothers and sisters
he went on to teach in France and then was a principal in many Toronto
schools. The opening of Blacksmith Public School remained a highlight of his
career.
After meeting Elayne Hilts/Staunton he married her despite her four children.
He was proud of each of them and was a lovely dad to Maura Staunton, Sean
Staunton, Kevin Staunton and Desi Staunton and a delightful grandfather to
Kevan Findlay, Gaby Staunton, Hanna Chidwick, Sean Findlay and Ijeoma
Staunton.
He was ever quietly appreciative of people, especially his friends and family,
and the best thing in life was to have a good laugh. He laughed often.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial funeral service officiated by Rev.
Therese Samuel, will be conducted at Grace United Church, Bruce St. South in
Thornbury on Monday October 6th at 2 p.m.

Born June 18, 1937 in Utrecht (Holland), Willy died peacefully at home in
Thornbury, Ontario, on September 27, 2014, surrounded by friends and family,
with her loyal dog “Skippy” at her feet.
At the age of 75, after having successfully beaten
cancer once, Willy was diagnosed with Lymphoma.
She tried every treatment available and always kept
her composure and positive attitude. She deeply
appreciated how hard her doctors (Dr. Aboo,
GBHS and Dr. Gospodarowicz, PMH) and all the
health care providers involved with her case
worked to initially cure and later manage her
disease.
Willy leaves behind her daughter Jacqueline Van
Strien (Edward Tuttle) and her beloved
granddaughter Maxine. Willy lived a full and happy life and would want to be
remembered in that positive light.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life is being held at Toronto
Ski Club on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 11 a.m.

Born in Collingwood, a son of Frank and the late Wilma Minnie (nee Dolson)
Dobson, Dave passed away suddenly and as the result of a tragic motor
vehicle accident in Blue Mountains on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at the
age of 54.
He is survived by his father Frank of Kolapore and by his partner and
companion Halina Shearman of Duncan.
He will be the sadly missed father and grandfather of Codie Dobson (Cory
Conboy) of Kelowna, BC and their children Avery and Eli; Katie Dobson of
Victoria, BC and her son Zyler; Jacob Dobson of Vancouver, BC; Stephanie
McQuarrie of Collingwood and her daughter Rylie; and Shane Raymer of
Thornbury.
Dave was predeceased by his brothers Patrick and Roger Dobson.
He will be fondly recalled by Halina’s children Asia and Paul of Collingwood.

Florida, Elaine Dawe (Harvey) of Collingwood, and step-brother to Sheri-Lynn

Ileene Fleming of Meaford and formerly of Thornbury passed away at the
Meaford Long Term Care Centre on Monday, September 15, 2014, in her 94th
year.
Born in Hamilton, Ileene was the loved daughter of the late Mark and Elma
(Boylan) Hutchinson.
She was predeceased by husbands Victor Edwards during World War Two and
Norman Reid Fleming in 1998.
She will be remembered as the dear sister of the late Gordon Hutchinson of
Willowdale and aunt of Gregg of Keswick and Lynda of Vancouver.

COLE, JOAN PATRICIA
Joan Patricia Cole passed away peacefully at her home in Thornbury on
Wednesday September 10th, 2014. She was born in Clarksburg on January 2nd,
1942 being the youngest child of Harold and Nora Cole who predecease her.
The Coles were known for their joy of music and it was Joan who did the
singing and, on Saturday evenings, it was not uncommon for friends and
neighbours to drop by to join us or to just sit back and enjoy listening to the
family play. Joan had a true love of the outdoors and appreciated even the
smallest details it had to offer. Her other passion in her last few years was the
food at the Thornbury Bakery and she could be seen their every day, chatting
with everyone.
Joan will be truly missed by her children: Rhonda Green, her husband Doug
and their daughters Whitney and Ashley; Mike Hodgkinson and his son
Brandon Rutherford; Patti Hodgkinson and her partner Carey Ray and Patti’s
daughter Madison Hodgkinson; Sue Hodgkinson and her partner Jake Smit;
Chuck Knox and his partner Selina Ruetz and Chuck’s children, Matthew
Sheffer and Aleeah Knox.
Joan is also survived by her sister Marlene Allcock and brother Ron Cole and
was predeceased by brothers Bob Cole and Ray Shaw and by sisters Eleanor
Pallister and Marg Hewson. She will be fondly missed by several nieces and
nephews.

John passed away peacefully at the age of 73 on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at
Meaford Hospital.
Born in Windsor Ontario, John was the son of the late
Helen Louise (nee Johnston) Prince and John Allen
Prince of Windsor Ontario. He is survived by his
loving sister Connie McNulty of Windsor.
John, a graduate of Ridley College and McGill
University, will be remembered fondly by his many
friends as “Princy” or “The Prince”. In recent years
John had endeared himself to many new friends at his
home in Thornbury with acts of simple kindness and
generosity to his neighbours. “John, you had more
friends than you know.”

Born in Collingwood Township on January 19, 1917, a daughter of the late James
and Elizabeth (nee Sheridan) Brown, Isabel passed away peacefully at Errinrung
Nursing Home in Thornbury on Friday, September 05, 2014 at the age of 97.
Isabel was predeceased by her beloved husband of thirty
nine years, John R. Johnson, in 1981.
She will be remembered in the community for her long
term commitment to her role and duties teaching in
several schools in the Beaver Valley area where she
became principal of Thornbury Public School, a career
from which she retired in 1977. Isabel was also a
dedicated member and supporter of St. Paul’s
Presbyterian Church and the Bella Goodfellow Guild.
She is remembered as the much loved Mom of Roger Johnson and his partner Gail
Langley of Newmarket and as a dear grandmother and great grandmother to his
children Susan and her husband Greg Schope and children Victoria and Abigail of
Keswick, and Steven and his wife Amy Johnson and their children Tyler and Sara
of Newmarket and will be fondly remembered also by the children’s mother
Rosemary (nee McGowan). She is also remembered also as a loving Mom by

Louise, affectionately known as ‘Cookie’ by many, passed away in
Collingwood on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the age of 91.

Louise married ‘Mac’ Smith of Thornbury and they formed a loving marriage
and companionship since August of 1943 supporting each other at home and in
business while raising their family. Their retirement home at Eastwind on the
shores of Georgian Bay was shared with family and friends.
She is survived by her son Robert Smith (Judith Ann) of Calgary, Peter M.
Smith of Boise, Idaho, and Jeffrey A. Smith (Katherine) of Toronto.
She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren: Darryl, Jessie, Alexandra, and
MacKenzie Smith.

Peter Graydon Lush, real estate icon, visionary and proud owner and developer
of Cedar Run Horse Park has died at home in Thornbury, Ontario at age 81
from cancer. Survived by his wife Flora (nee Wakefield), and his children
Valerie (Bill) and John (Mani), stepchildren Kim (Dave) and Sarah (Darren),
dear brother Barry Lush, and predeceased by his
sister Barbara Buzza (Lush); also, a proud
grandfather of Maris, Eliot, Eve, Matthew,
Emerson, Ella, Ryan and Jack. Born and raised
in Burlington, Ontario, Peter spent his early
career building a company in his hometown, the
Lush Corporation which, in the early 1990s,
included over 40 associated companies focused
on real estate sales and commercial development with regional offices in
Ontario and Germany. He has been recognized for building the Sunlife
Commercial Complex, Upper Canada Place and the first major hotel (Holiday
Inn) in Burlington, ON. Past positions include: President of the International
Real Estate Federation, President of the Hamilton Real Estate Board, Vice
President of the Ontario Real Estate Association and Chairman of the Hamilton
Harbour Commission. Committed to community development, he also served
as Treasurer to the PC Canada Fund, Chairman of the Ontario Mental Health
Foundation, and raised the funds needed to construct the first YMCA in
Burlington, ON. Past owner and proud member of The Georgian Peaks Ski
Club and former treasurer of the America’s Cup Challenge True North, Peter
embraced his adventurous and active spirit by sailing throughout the Caribbean
and the Mediterranean and skiing in Ontario and Europe. He was a member of
Equine Canada and loved riding his horses and working on his farm in

CARSCADDEN, NEIL JOHN
Neil passed away suddenly on Monday, May 26, 2014. He will be sadly missed by his
wife Diane, children Christina (Fred) and Scott, and treasured grandsons Fredrik and
William Eaton. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Kay Chown, of Brantford, and
siblings Barbara (Les), Gary (the late Margie), Keith (Margaret) and Lorne (Mary).
Born in Manitoba in 1942, Neil was educated at Royal Military
College and Ohio State University (MSc). After graduating
from RMC, he served as a Captain in the Canadian Air Force at
Wright Patterson Air Force base in Ohio during the Vietnam
War. Neil started his business career in computer software at
IBM. He became a partner of DMR Consulting, and eventually
founded his own software consulting company, working on
major software projects for the Canadian banks, and other
institutions around the world.
His modesty, drive and
discipline set a positive example for everyone around him.
An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hiking, biking, sailing and skiing until the end. An active
billiard player, he will be missed by his friends from the billiard club. He was an early
member at the Georgian Peaks Club, a former member of the Royal Canadian Military
Institute, and an active member of Rotary Club in Thornbury. Neil’s pride and joy, above
all, were his grandsons Fredrik & William. He spent many happy days with them,
playing at the park, skiing, listening to music, and building LEGO.

Born February 11, 1949 in Toronto, Beth passed away peacefully on Sunday,
February 23, 2014, in North Yorkshire, England at the age of 65.
She was predeceased by her Mom and Dad, Shirley
(née Wheeler) in 2012 and Ernie Colbourn in 1992,
and by her brother Bill Colbourn in 2005.
Beth was the much loved sister of Mary and her
husband Ron Lunau of Lakefield, ON and Charlie
Colbourn and his wife Violet Syrotiuk of Phoenix,
AZ. She will be sadly missed by her nieces and
nephews: Kate Lunau and Mitch Chan, Janet and
Jeremy Winkels, Ben Colbourn and Kelly and
children Rabbit, Daisy and Wren, Max Colbourn,
Susie Colbourn and Simon Miles, and Sarah Colbourn. She will be
remembered as a dear niece by Marion Pearson of Norland, Susan and Don
Sindrey of Lindsay, Hazel Boneham of Toronto, Ken and Joan Colbourn of
Ottawa and Fred and Lorraine Colbourn of Toronto and also by their families
and by her many friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating Beth’s life,
officiated by Reverend Peggy Kipfer, will be conducted at St. Paul’s
Presbyterian Church in Thornbury on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 1 p.m.
Beth’s family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church following
the service for a time of refreshment and further sharing of memories of Beth.
Interment and committal of Beth’s ashes will take place in the family plot in
Etobicoke at a later date.

NICOLSON, DONALD ROY
Born in Langton, a son of the late William and Jean (née Robertson) Nicolson,
Don passed away from complications after a courageous battle with Lung
Cancer on Thursday April 10, 2014 in his 82nd year.
An engineering student at Queen’s and a graduate of the
Photographic Arts Program at Ryerson, Don had a
photography studio in Brantford from 1961 to 1978.
After relocating to Thornbury he continued to be an
entrepreneur by opening Georgian Frame Gallery in
Collingwood. After retiring from the business he worked
part time for his daughter Margot who carried on with
the family business; he continued assisting her until last
year. Volunteerism and community were a very big part
of Don’s life beginning as a Queen’s Scout Master in
Langton, and continuing as the President of Brant Figure
Skating Club, a member of the Kiwanis Club of
Brantford and later the Collingwood Progress Club, a
member of the Collingwood Museum Board, Grace United Church Board and
more recently President and member of the Beaver Valley Seniors Curling
Club. Professionally Don was on the Board of the Professional Photographers
of Ontario and was a founding member of the Professional Photographers of
Canada. In his retirement Don curled and golfed, being a member at Duntroon
Highlands Golf Club. He was very active in the Clan MacNicoll, was the
Commissioner of Highland Games for the Clan in Ontario for several years
and he and his wife Elizabeth travelled to many clan gatherings in Canada and
to Scotland. He and Elizabeth travelled extensively in their retirement and
Don tended to his beautiful gardens, played internet chess with a buddy from
Tillsonburg, created many solutions to make Elizabeth’s life easier after a
debilitating stroke and loved the CFL. His lifelong hobby of cabinetry led him
to always have a project on the go for his daughters and later it led to model
ship building.
Donald was the beloved husband of Elizabeth who passed away in August
2013 and will be remembered as the cherished Dad of Carla Nicolson and her
husband Doug Johnston of Thornbury and Margot Nicolson and her husband
Cam Trott of Collingwood. He was the adored and devoted granddad of Tori
and Alex Johnston and step-grandfather of Weston Trott and his wife Saren and
their son Xavier, Courtney Trott and Evan Trott.
Brothers Douglas and Bruce predeceased Donald and he will be remembered
as the much loved and caring uncle to Ron Nicolson of Calgary and Mary Jean
and Anne Nicolson of Toronto.
Cremation has taken place and friends are invited to gather for a memorial
celebration of Donald’s life, officiated by Reverend Thérèse Samuel,
conducted at Grace United Church in Thornbury, on Thursday, April 17, 2014
at 1:30 pm. A further time of refreshment and remembrances will be shared at
the Nicolson home following the service.
A service of interment of Don’s ashes will take place in the family plot in
Tillsonburg at a later date.

LEEDHAM, NORMAN EDWARD
Norman Leedham passed away peacefully at Errinrung Nursing Home in
Thornbury on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at the age of 87. He was born on April
10, 1926, in the Swansea District of Toronto. He was the eldest child of the
late Thomas and Bertha (née Coe) Leedham.
Norm attended Western Technical School in Toronto and
upon completion he joined the Royal Canadian Navy in
1943 and served until the end of WWII. Post war he
took his apprenticeship at Stelco Swansea Works and
learned his trade as a tool and die maker. In 1950 he
and his business partner founded Leeson & Baxter Ltd.
which he successfully owned and operated for more
than 40 years until his retirement. After retirement
Norm took up permanent residence on the shore of
Georgian Bay in Craigleith. His favorite pastime was
fishing. He also enjoyed spending winters in Okeechobee, Florida. He took up
woodcarving and became quite accomplished; his work was always in demand.
As a member of the Rotary Club he loved the camaraderie, the kibitzing, but
most importantly being able to give back to the community.
Left to celebrate his memory is his wife Doris Leona ‘Lee’ Leedham of
Thornbury, his sons Ken Leedham (Keri-Lyn) and Glenn Leedham (Dianne),
his sister Lois Murison (John), and his brother-in-law Lynn Chaulk. Norm is
also survived by his son through marriage, Dale Hewgill (late Betty), and by
their children Ryan and Megan and by his daughter through marriage, Pam
Hewgill. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews and
their families. Norm was predeceased by his sister Joyce Chaulk in 2008 and
his stepmother Isabel in 1999.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Norm’s Life will take place at
a later date this year.

SANGSTER, ALEXANDER HARVEY
Longtime Thornbury resident, businessman and baker, Harvey Sangster,
passed away at Errinrung Nursing Home in Thornbury on Saturday, March 1,
2014 at the age of 88.
Harvey was born in Howick Township on December 6, 1925, a son of the late
Edith (née Milligan) and John Sangster.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife and partner Jean Viola (née
McAllister) in 1997 and is lovingly remembered by their children: Charlie
Sangster and his wife Gwen of Utterson, Betty VanderLinden (late Bill Nixon
and late Dale VanderLinden) of Clayhurst, BC, Lyndia and her husband Gerald
Jackson of RR 1, Clarksburg, and Brenda (late Terry) Brasier of Lindsay. A
son, Richard Sangster, predeceased Harvey in 2010.
He will be missed as the Grandfather of five granddaughters, four grandsons,
seven great granddaughters and eleven great grandsons.
He is also remembered by his brother Robert ‘Bob’ Sangster and his partner
Carol of Port Elgin and was predeceased by a brother Ken Sangster and is
survived also by his sister-in-law Florence ‘Flori’ Sangster of Listowel.
In keeping with Harvey’s expressed wishes, cremation has taken place and a
family graveside service and interment of his ashes will be conducted at
Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery at a later date.

Born in East York Township on July 9, 1953, the loved daughter of Marjorie
(née Brenner) and the late William “Bill” Thomas Pingle of Toronto, Linda
passed away at her home in Clarksburg on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at the
age of 60.
Linda will be sadly missed by Wally Brinson of
Clarksburg who was her partner of 40 years.
She will be the fondly remembered sister of John
Pingle of Dalhousie and dear aunt of Brian Pingle and
Dana (Jim Frias) and great aunt of their children
William and Logan.
Linda will also be remembered by her sister-in-law
Linda Driscoll of Toronto and her children Ashley and
Aaron.

Born in Toronto, a son of Andrew and Jess (née Sharkey) Stevens, Brad, a
resident of Thornbury, passed away unexpectedly at the Meaford Hospital on
Friday, February 14, 2014, at the age of 60.
He was a brother to Murray Stevens and his wife
Dianne of Uxbridge and Drew Stevens.
He was uncle to the late Laurel Stevens and Andrew
Stevens and will be remembered also by their families
and by his dear friends.

Life long resident of Thornbury, ‘Ike’ Kennedy, son of the late Alma Pearl (née

Ike was the beloved husband of the former Anne Noble
and will be remembered as the devoted father of Alison

HINDLE, E. SHIRLEY
Born in Osprey Township, a daughter of the late Les and Justina (née Ellis)
McMullen, Shirley, formerly of Holland Centre, passed away peacefully at
Grey Gables Nursing Home in Markdale on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the
age of 84.
Shirley was predeceased by her beloved husband Wes Hindle on August 11,
2002.
She is remembered as the dear mother of Pat Genoe and her partner Ray
Coburn of Markdale and was predeceased by a daughter Sharon in 1969.
Shirley will be lovingly remembered by Andy, Detchena and Adam Genoe and
by her extended family Irene (Laverne) Fogal and family.
She was a dear sister of Doug McMullen and his wife Phyllis of Kimberley
and will be fondly remembered by her several nieces and nephews and by

Malcolm passed away suddenly while on vacation in Jamaica, on Thursday
January 16, 2014, at the age of 81.
He is remembered as the beloved husband of Joan and

(Brian) and Richard (Stacy) and step-father of Gregory
(Patricia) and Kimberley.
He will be fondly

Edna (née Markle) Rolling, formerly of Thornbury, passed away at Grey Bruce
Health Services in Meaford on Monday, January 6, 2014, at the age of 86.
She is remembered as the beloved Mom of Ivan of Erin, Rosemary of Auburn,
New York, Elaine and Mark of Guelph and Ellen of Collingwood.
She was the dearest Gramma of Michelle Young (Rob), Sean Rolling, Scott

Scott. Proud “Gee Gee” of twelve great-grandchildren.

Born in Toronto on February 4, 1951, a daughter of the late Adolph and
Bertha (née Crilly) Kucejko, Donna, the beloved wife of Stephen Cooper of
Meaford and formerly of Clarksburg, passed away at the family home in
Clarksburg on Thursday, December 19, 2013, at the age of 62.
She will be remembered as a loved mother by their son Shawn Cooper (Krista)
of Whistler, BC and grandmother of his children Ben and Jaxon.
Donna was a dear sister to Sandra (Michael) Powers of Omemee and Wanda
(Donald) Scharf of North York.
She is also survived by her brother-in-law Ed Cooper of Wasaga Beach and
will be fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews.
Donna’s family expresses their sincere gratitude to the friends and neighbours
in the community and the many support staff and services who were so
thoughtful and caring assisting Donna and allowing her to remain in her home
during the time of her illness.

Peacefully and in the presence of her family at her residence in Thornbury on
Tuesday, December 31, 2013, Imogene passed away at the age of 77.
Born in Collingwood Township, she was a daughter of the
late Roy and Dorothy (née Robinson) Hewgill.
Imogene was the beloved wife of Ralph Rice and was
predeceased by her former husband J. Ronald Sheridan in
1993.
She was the cherished mother of Carol Kollen and her
partner George Wilson of Meaford, John Sheridan and his
wife Louise of Blue Mountains, Tom Sheridan and his wife
Stephanie of Thornbury, Bonnie and her husband Brad
Parkes of Nottawa and Richard Sheridan and his wife Lori of
Angus. A daughter, Rhonda, predeceased Imogene. She will be remembered also as
a step-mother to Marsha and her husband Paul Rankin of Feversham.
She was a loving grandmother to Chris and Leah Fortune and their son Elijah, Brian
and Lianna Fortune, Matthew Sheridan, Melissa, Tracy and David Sheridan, Abbey
and Robert Parkes, Bridget and Madeline Sheridan and Hannah and Tim Rankin.
Imogene was predeceased by her siblings Lorne Hewgill, Margaret (late Bob) Turner,
Helen (late Burton) Rear, Herman (late Mabel), Eldon (late Muriel), and Tom
Hewgill. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by the Rice, Sheridan and
Hewgill families and her many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at St. George’s Anglican Church in Clarksburg on
Saturday January 4, 2014 at 11 a.m. where family will receive friends the hour prior
to service and in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the service.
