MARIE OSMOND
Beginning with her national debut at age three on The Andy Williams Show, Marie has
proven to be a resilient talent with a magnetic presence known across generations.
Performing for almost five continuous decades is a rare accomplishment achieved by
very few women in the entertainment business.
Marie recorded Paper Roses at age twelve, making history as the youngest female
artist to have her debut record go to #1 on the charts, followed by a Grammy
nomination.
An additional historic “first,” Marie became the youngest-ever host of a national
television variety show, The Donny & Marie Show (1976-81);“appointment television” for
millions of viewers and broadcast around the world in over 17 different languages.
Marie’s unique style and fashion ingenuity established her as a monumental trendsetter,
which is an ongoing reality today.
On film, Marie starred in The Gift of Love (1979) Side By Side (1982) and I Married
Wyatt Earp (1983)…. “oh, yeah”…and Goin’ Coconuts (As she says: “Some things you
never stop paying for!” smile)
In her recording background, among over 30 albums and numerous gold records, an
additional career highlight was winning a Country Music Association’s “Vocal Duo of the
Year” award in 1986 for Meet Me In Montana, with the late Dan Seals.
From Pop music to a popular demand to tour the country music stages, Marie was then
beckoned to the Broadway stage in the mid-1990’s to star in The Sound of Music and
The King and I, which garnered rave reviews and played to sold out houses on national
and international tours.
Whether performing live for the 2002 Olympics or co-starring in the number one
Superbowl 2003 commercial, a hilarious spoof opposite Ozzy Osbourne, Marie
constantly evolves her talents.
Another record-breaking accomplishment, in 2001 Marie became the first-ever celebrity
to publicly write about her experience with Postpartum Depression, Behind the Smile, a
New York Times bestseller. In April of 2009, her second book, Might As Well Laugh
About it Now, was an over-night New York Times bestseller (8 weeks).
Her national radio show Marie and Friends was #1 in the markets and her previously
annual Magic of Christmas tour was a standing-room only event in venues across the
country.
On Season Five of Dancing With the Stars, 25 million people watched Marie’s
enthusiasm and determination and her significant weight loss with NutriSystem, and
voted her into the finale. Her infamous faint has been replayed millions of times on TV
and YouTube, to which Marie responded: “I hit my head so hard when I passed out….I
won, right?”
Besides being an international entertainment icon, Marie is a savvy businesswoman.
Now celebrating 20 years, Marie Osmond Dolls has received many “Dolls of Excellence”
and “Doll of the Year” (DOTY) awards and nominations; making Marie one of the top
doll designers in the world.
In 2009, Marie was honored with a “Champion of Children” award by the Public
Education Foundation and also Nevada Ballet’s 2010 “Woman of the Year” award.
In March 2011, Marie was presented with the 24th “Gypsy Award,” in Beverly Hills, CA,
by the Professional Dancers Society, following past honorees: Mary Tyler Moore, Rita
Moreno and Carol Burnett, among others notable stars.
Marie has also expanded her many business activities into her own line of sewing
machines, crafting products, and a top-selling international jewelry line with Giftcraft.
As co-founder of Children’s Miracle Network, Marie helps over 17 million kids every
year, throughout the U.S, Canada and Europe, providing state-of-the-art health care
and research through 170 Children’s Hospitals. To date, her charity has raised over 4
billion dollars with one hundred percent of all funds going to the children. Marie also
serves as a spokeswoman for the American Heart Association and “Go Red for
Women.”
Since September of 2008, Marie currently performs five nights a week to sold-out
crowds and great reviews in Las Vegas at the Flamingo Hotel Showroom with her
brother, Donny. “Donny and Marie,” is the first time the duo has reunited on the stage in
over 28 years and has also resulted in a new Donny & Marie album, released in 2010.
On, March 23, 2011 Donny and Marie and the Flamingo Hotel celebrated a 500-show
landmark. April of 2011, the refreshed Vegas show begins featuring many new showstopping performance numbers, staged by Broadway’s acclaimed director-producer,
Richard Jay Alexander.
In November of 2010, Marie expanded her musical range once again with her solo
project, a much-anticipated inspirational album titled I Can Do This. Following its
release, it was instantly in the ITunes top ten listing after she performed “Pie Jesu” on
The Oprah Winfrey Show.
Times Square’s famous Marquis Theater was the venue for the December 2010 topselling Broadway show: Donny & Marie: A Broadway Christmas, which played to full
houses and was extended twice due to ticket demand.
Limited engagements of this in-demand duo in their hit stage show will be in Toronto
from July 5 – 17, 2011 at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, and also a
much anticipated Christmas –time engagement in Chicago, December 6 – 24, 2011 at
the historic Oriental Theatre, followed by a limited engagement in Detroit.
