About Our Guest Author – Tom Perrotta
Tom Perrotta is the author of six previous works
of fiction: Bad Haircut, The Wishbones, Election,
and the New York Times bestselling Joe College,
Little Children, and The Leftovers. Election was
made into the acclaimed 1999 movie directed by
Alexander Payne and starring Matthew Broderick
and Reese Witherspoon. Little Children was released as a movie directed
by Todd Field and starring Kate Winslet and Jennifer Connelly in 2006,
and for which Perrotta received Golden Globe and Academy Award
nominations for best screenplay. HBO has acquired the television rights
to The Leftovers and is currently adapting the book as a TV series. He
lives outside of Boston, Massachusetts.
About Our Honoree – Andrea Gordon
Perrotta’s] most mature,
“[absorbing
novel…though he
still hasn’t left the suburbs,
Perrotta has managed to
prove again, as Updike and
Cheever did, that here in the
quiet, tree-lined streets of a
nice neighborhood, people are
fighting cosmic battles with
their own and others’ demons.
- Ron Charles for the
Washington Post on The Leftovers
As our first honoree, Andrea had the vision of a new, vibrant library for Milton. Her dedication and energy inspired all
those who joined the effort to make it a reality. As a result, the Milton Library has fostered a love of reading at an early
age, offered access to information and digital media and inspired lifelong learning. All of this is provided free of
charge thanks to the generous supporters of the library.

The Milton Library Foundation
The Milton Library Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to ensure Milton Public Library’s growth
towards excellence. It raises funds to supplement and expand municipal support for library services and collections, a Small Grants
Program for library staff, technological assets and capital expenditures. Having completed a major renovation and systems upgrade
in 2009, Milton Public Library is a vibrant community cultural center and usage is at an all-time high. In the last year, over 400
programs were offered for people of all ages at the Library and the number of digital downloads from Library collections, including
eBooks, Audio books, and music, more than doubled from the previous year. The 2013 Literary Gala Fund-a-Need will support
the Technology for a Twenty-first Century Library Fund.
