“
The Tiger Woods Foundation was established to help create a better world where people
of all backgrounds and ethnicity can reach their greatest potential and participate fully in the
economic and social mainstream of society. Our Foundation’s mission is to help the health,
education and welfare of all of America’s youth. We
specifically strive to provide opportunities for kids to “dream
big dreams” and then ultimately achieve those dreams.
Children today need help in goal setting and achievement of
those goals. Through the support and guidance of parents,
teachers, coaches and mentors, children gain the necessary
support and receive valuable life experiences that help them
succeed. Please get involved in a child’s life and
make a difference; I have.
The Foundation has had many
accomplishments in 2001, but it is only the beginning of what
is to come. Please consider joining us for one of the most
memorable experiences of your life.

reflections of 2001
The mission of the Tiger Woods Foundation (TWF) is to empower young people to
reach their highest potential by initiating and supporting community-based programs
that promote the health, education and welfare of all of America's children. As we
reflect on our accomplishments in 2001, we feel that we have worked hard to achieve
that goal.
Our annual fundraising events last year were extremely
successful. Eight thousand people attended the
Tiger Jam IV presented by Coca-Cola benefit
concert at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las
Vegas, and were treated to outstanding musical
performances by multi-platinum selling artists
Third Eye Blind and legendary rocker John
Mellencamp. The Williams World Challenge
presented by Target golf tournament included a
field of 18 of the world’s best golfers
competing for over $4 million in prize
money, and the event was
highlighted by Tiger Woods
dazzling come from behind
victory. The Foundation
conducted Coca-Cola / Tiger Woods Foundation
junior golf clinics in four different cities across the
country with over 12,000 children and parents in
attendance.
In addition to these events, the Foundation
continued its partnership with Target Stores as
we introduced “Start Something”- Phase II.
Designed for children ages 8-17, this program
focuses on strengthening personal confidence
so that they can achieve their individual goals
and strive to also become role models for other
kids. For the third year, the Tiger Woods
Foundation National Junior Golf Team
competed at the World Junior Golf Championships in San Diego, California, with
four of the team members finishing in the top 10 in their respective divisions. The
Foundation also became a participating charity in the Combined Federal Campaign
Program as a means of raising funds for our benevolent giving.
Like all other areas of the Foundation, our benevolent giving program grew as well.
We donated over $1 million to many deserving charities throughout the course of the
year. Forty-eight grants were awarded nationwide to programs focusing on
Education, Child & Family Health/Welfare, Youth Development, and Parenting.
Another 27 grants were awarded to Youth Development golf programs in our clinic
host cities through our TWF Junior Golf “Leave Behind” grant program. We
were also able to provide eight high school seniors with tuition assistance for
the first year of their college educations through scholarships; two Ohio
students from Minerva High School received the William and Marcella
Powell Scholarship Award, one student from the Atlanta area received
the Alfred “Tup” Holmes Memorial Scholarship Award and five
minority high school golfers received National Minority Junior Golf
Scholarship Association/Tiger Woods Foundation Scholarships.
We could not have achieved our success this year without the
help of the many people who supported our Foundation;
we owe all of them a heartfelt “thank you.”
As we enter 2002, we pause to reflect on all of
the events of 2001 and hope that the future is
bright for all of the children and their
families throughout the world.
Thank you,
Earl Woods

Because of the events of September 11 and the resulting
changes to the PGA TOUR schedule, the field for the WWC
was expanded to 18 players and had a large international
contingent, as it featured players from nine different countries.
Germany was represented by two-time Masters champion
Bernhard Langer; Ireland by 2001 Volvo Order of Merit
champion Padraig Harrington; Denmark by European Ryder
Cup team member Thomas Bjorn; England by 2000 Volvo
Order of Merit champion Lee Westwood; Sweden by Ryder
Cup team member Jesper Parnevik; Northern Ireland by
Ryder Cup team member Darren Clarke; Scotland by seven
time Volvo Order of Merit champion Colin Montgomerie;
and, Fiji by 2000 Masters champion Singh. The rest of the field
included America’s Woods, Hoch, Mark O’Meara, Fred
Couples, 2001 British Open Champion David Duval, 2002
PGA Champion David Toms, Davis Love III, Mark
Calcavecchia, Jim Furyk and Scott Verplank.
One of the key elements of the WWC is its unique two-day Pro-Am. The amateurs
were treated to a round of golf with top celebrities on day one. Joe Pesci, Wayne
Gretzky, John O’Hurley, Barry Sanders and Craig T. Nelson were among the
celebrities that played on Tuesday with the amateurs. Day two of the competition
included 18 holes with a professional competing in the tournament. The
Wednesday night Pro-Am Awards dinner featured live performances by
Grammy-award winning musician Seal and comedian Kevin Nealon,
formerly of Saturday Night Live.
As is his custom with the WWC, Woods donated his
winnings back to the Foundation, and this year,
fellow Orlando resident Hoch also gave $20,000 out of
his winnings to the Tiger Woods Foundation.

he Tiger Woods Foundation has conducted 24 junior golf clinics throughout the
United States over the past five years. In 2000, the Foundation teamed up with CocaCola to strengthen its commitment to urban junior golf and to further develop the
junior golf clinics. In 2001, clinics were held in Long Beach, California; Birmingham,
Alabama; Rockford, Illinois; and
Columbus, Ohio. Over the course of
COCA-COLA / TWF JUNIOR GOLF CLINICS
the four clinics, 450 children from local
youth groups received instruction
from golf professionals, and an
additional 50 members of the PGA-sanctioned urban golf
programs received one-on-one instruction from Tiger Woods.
All together, more than 12,000 youths participated in the clinic
weekend experiences, which also included a “Caring and
Sharing” presentation by Earl Woods, a ball striking
exhibition by Tiger and several Foundation workshops.
In 2002, one clinic will be held in Orlando, Florida, at Walt Disney World. Five cities
will be selected through a bid process to attend this special clinic with Tiger Woods and
will spend three days in Orlando. Each city that is selected through the bid process will
receive hotel accommodations, amusement park passes, special golf instruction, tickets
to attend an exhibition featuring Tiger and a grant award for their junior golf
program. Winning cities may invite 15 junior golfers to participate, and some of those
golfers will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with Tiger while the
others receive instruction from local PGA professionals. Cities are chosen
based on a variety of criteria, including but not limited to: (1) Viability of the
city’s junior golf programs; (2) Past accomplishments of the programs; (3)
Letters of recommendation; and (4) Overall size of the golf programs.
T
The Foundation does more than just teach golf with the
clinics. Through the Foundation’s “Leave Behind” Grant
Program, the majority of the proceeds raised by the clinics
remain in the city in which they are raised and are used for the
development of junior programs in that city. These grants are
used by the golf programs for everything from tee times and
greens fees, to purchasing equipment and staffing the golf
training centers. For many programs, this grant money often
provides the bulk of their funding for the year. Since the
inception of the “Leave Behind” Grant Program, the
Foundation has been able to impact the lives of many
disadvantaged youths with approximately $1 million being
donated to programs in the clinic cities.

n 1999, in recognition of Tiger Woods’ work with inner-city children, the Junior
World Golf Championship (JWGC) granted the Tiger Woods Foundation 18
permanent exemptions to the JWGC golf tournament in order to create opportunities
to enhance the growth of junior golfers
through international competition.

spirit building events. One of the highlights of the event is the Foundation Pep Rally,
which kicks off the week with the presentation of the Earl & Kultida Woods Parenting
Awards. The 2001 Parenting Award winners were Harold Villare II and Lil Nolen.
Selecting the players to participate on the Foundation’s National Junior Golf Team
involves a three-step process, players must submit (1) letters of nomination from junior
golf directors; (2) a valid USGA handicap index; and (3) a recent tournament-playing
resume. In addition, the Foundation mandates that each player submit a “Character
Comments Form” that is completed by his or her school principal, counselor, or
teacher verifying a 2.5 cumulative Grade Point Average. Players are then ranked and
selected by the Foundation’s committee. Once selected, members of the team also are
required to perform 15 hours of community service.
The Foundation is proud of the accomplishments of the Tiger Woods Foundation
National Junior Golf Team and its accomplishments over the past few years.

youth by offering healthy, alternative youth activities, blending
education, recreation and moral guidance. By providing a safe,
nurturing environment, children can grow.
Starfish is one of the only free after-school programs in the area.
Students aged five to thirteen attend weekdays from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00

become a centralized source for educational technology in
disadvantaged communities. Churches maintain a number
of inherent benefits to the community, including facilities that
are available throughout the week, a committed volunteer
force, and established relationships within the community.
These factors combine to make churches a potentially valuable
asset in community education.
The Waterford Institute Literacy Project employs the advantages
of churches as community-based organizations and the benefits
of technology to significantly impact the literacy and technology
abilities of families in economically distressed Salt Lake City
communities. The goal of this project is to improve literacy and
technology skills of participants, increase community and family

opened its doors in July of 1994 to serve the highest risk adolescents
(ages 16 to 20) in Nevada (to date over 600 kids have been helped) and
was developed to provide these kids with an opportunity to mature and
learn independent living skills in a structured supervised setting.
Some residents are homeless, others may have some family, but those
parents have serious problems and have lost custody of their children.
There is a high frequency of alcohol and drug abuse in their
backgrounds as well as physical and sexual abuse as youth. Some of
these parents are in prison while others cannot be found. By and large,
these are youth who have been forgotten by society.
Research has shown that involvement in music programs improves a child’s early cognitive
development, basic math and reading abilities, self-esteem, SAT scores, self-discipline, ability to
work in teams, spatial reasoning skills, and school attendance. Also, children involved with music
education are more likely to graduate from high school and attend college, and less likely to be
involved with gangs and substance abuse.
Since its inception in 1997, this program has supported more than 350
music education programs in 30 cities and helped more than 120,000

The tradition of commitment to the community through the selfless efforts of Federal
employees has its roots in the many charitable campaigns of the early 1960’s. Seeing a
need to bring the diversity of fundraising efforts under one umbrella, Federal
employees created the CFC—one campaign, once a year. By allowing employees to
select the organizations of their choice from a single brochure and to make their
contributions through payroll deductions, the CFC opened the door to more
opportunities for generous giving to literally hundreds of worthy causes. An Executive
Order made the CFC a reality, and turned an innovative idea into a uniquely effective
way for Federal employees to help those in need across our community and
throughout the world. The CFC is the only authorized solicitation of employees in the
Federal workplace on behalf of charitable organizations. It continues to be the largest
and most successful workplace fundraising model in the world.

The Tiger Woods Foundation was selected to participate in the
Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) in 2001. The CFC is a program
that is an annual fund-raising drive conducted by Federal employees
in their workplace each fall. Each year, Federal employees and
military personnel donate millions of
dollars to thousands of non-profit
COMBINED FEDERAL CAMPAIGN
charities through the CFC.

The presentation of the “Fellows of the Foundation”
medallions marked the kick-off of the fundraising campaign
by the Tiger Woods Foundation to solicit 18 Fellows, persons
that make a one-time, one million dollar individual
contribution that will be designated for use by the
Foundation’s endowment fund.
