REMEMBER OUR DECEASED
Please pray for all the deceased members of the St. Anastasia
Faith Community that they may be welcomed into the
happiness of eternal life especially, Kim McKeon,
Lucy Harrison
Dear Parishioners of Saint Anastasia Parish,
Consider the closing line of this Sunday’s Gospel. “What I say to you, I say to all: ‘Watch!” What do we actually “watch”
out for in life? We certainly watch out for our investments. We watch out for our homes, our cars, our families. And how do we
do this watching? In most cases we pay for it. We entrust the watching to someone else who makes a living of it. We pay
insurance premiums, we pay for programs to protect our computer data, we pay for extended warranties for things that are already
guaranteed. So, it can be reasonably said that most of us have “out sourced” the work of watching to someone else. Having done
this we can relax and take it easy! Someone else is on the watch! Simple!
This type of thinking is extremely dangerous, as Jesus points out in the Gospel. When we leave the watching to someone
else we become lazy; we become like those servants who have fallen asleep. This does not mean that the worldly measures we take
to protect what is ours are not important. We would be fools to ignore them. However, may we never be foolish enough to think
that what we pay for the “watching” is ever enough. We need to be alert ourselves, at all times, about all things, especially what we
cherish the most: our loved ones, ourselves, our faith.
The master is gone for awhile. We are left in charge of all he left us to watch over and care for. May he find us awake on
his return. Advent begins this weekend. May the next four weeks find us concerned, vigilant and awake about the things that
matter the most.
Have a great week,
Fr. Colagreco

LOVE IS OUR MISSION: THE FAMILY FULLY ALIVE
THEME FOR NOVEMBER 2014
CREATED FOR JOY
Love is our mission: because love is our origin and destiny.
We are created in God’s image,
Created to love God and love our neighbor.
Jesus is our model. He became one of us —entered into our world of anxiety and
doubt and persevered in love.
When we follow His path and persevere in love, even in the midst of suffering and
sacrifice, we will find joy.
Catholic living calls us to be saints! To be heroes and adventurers even in our
ordinary daily lives. Putting our family’s needs before our own, being honest and
reliable at work, doing the laundry, washing the dishes, walking the dog, reading
bed time stories, caring for an elderly family member or neighbor—these are all
opportunities for holiness that lead to real joy.
Where do you find your joy?
Did you know? The World Meeting of Families event was established by Pope St.
John Paul II in 1994. It is held every three years in cities across the world. 2015 is
the first time it will be in the United States. Its goals are (1) to strengthen family
bonds and (2) to give witness to the fundamental role of the family in society.
Learn more at WorldMeeting2015.org.
DAY OF SANCTIFICATION FOR PRIESTS
