WINTER 2015
Ottawa South Firehall Fitness Centre (FFC)
“Old Ottawa South’s Hidden Gem”
At the Firehall Fitness Centre, you can try out cardiovascular exercise
machines, free weights, and resistance bands in a quiet, welcoming
environment. It’s a great choice for:
• People of any fitness level.
• Runners looking to stay fit and work on strength training throughout
the winter.
• Parents of children in OSCA programs.
• Anyone looking for an inclusive, judgment-free place to work out.
Not only does regular cardiovascular exercise improve heart health,
increase metabolism, and build muscle, but it has also been shown to reduce stress and improve mood. Using free
weights helps to improve strength and balance and allows you to target specific muscles and muscle groups, while also
strengthening stabilizer muscles such as your abdominals. Resistance bands are another great way to strengthen and
stretch your muscles. Johns Hopkins Medicine calls resistance bands one of the safest methods to increase bone strength
and help prevent osteoporosis.
Cardio machines, free weights and resistance bands can be used by beginners and experienced athletes alike to improve
strength and endurance, burn calories, and achieve health & fitness goals.
The Firehall Fitness Centre is conveniently located in the heart of Old Ottawa South. We encourage parents whose
children are enrolled in programs with us to make use of the fitness centre and enjoy the peace of mind of knowing your
children are close by.
*25% Discount on any Firehall Fitness Centre membership option if any family member is registered in any current seasonal
Ottawa South Community Centre program
* Personal training for non-members is also available. Please contact the Ottawa South Community Centre for rates.
