CHRIST THE KING SUNDAY
Thought before Worship
You are asked in the time that you have to use wisely what you have
been given for the kingdom of God. That means that you must
consider not only how you spend your time but how you spend your
money, and how you use your talent as well.
The gifts that you have do not belong to you; they are not yours to
possess but rather they are yours to improve. . . .
If you give serious consideration to this use of your talent, your time,
and your treasure, then neither your church nor the whole church of
Jesus Christ need ever fear, and for that let the whole church say
Amen.

Welcome & Announcements
Prelude
*Call to Worship
Psalm 8
We are story people.
We find our reason and our rhyme, our courage and our hope, in
God’s gospel story.
It is a story older than time.
It offers light and direction, steadiness and comfort in a world
that is ever-changing.
It is a story that calls us to faithfully remember the good old days
and to faithfully envision new ways of being the church in the days still
to come.
Scripture proclaims, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today,
and forever.”
The Lord promises, “I am doing a new thing. Do you not perceive
it?”
*Hymn #551
“Come, Ye Thankful People, Come”
Call to Confession
Prayer of Confession
Gracious God,
you are always looking out for us:
finding us when we wander away,
waiting for us when we are stubborn,
loving us when we can’t love ourselves,
welcoming us when the world has turned us away.
We forget, sometimes, that we should live that way, too.
We forget that what everyone needs most is
a hand to hold,
a place to belong,
a word of hope.
Help us, O God, to be a light in the darkness,
a voice for the powerless,
grace in the midst of chaos,
a reminder of your love.
(Time for silent reflection)
Assurance of Forgiveness
Friends, believe the good news.
In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.
Passing of the Peace
As God through Jesus has recognized and forgiven each of us, let us
now ourselves recognize and forgive each other by sharing God’s peace
with one another. The Peace of Christ is with you!
And also with you.

*Affirmation of Faith—Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth. I
believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord. He was conceived
by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended
into Heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will
come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy
Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Prayers of the People-Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy
kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, as
we forgive those who sin against us; and lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Children’s Worship: The focus of today’s worship circle during
Children’s Worship will be How the Church Tells Time, Leviticus
23:1-3. Children’s Worship, an optional worship experience for children from three years old through 2nd grade, is held during worship service each Sunday morning. Children who wish to participate will be escorted to our children’s worship area upstairs following the Time with Children. Because we do serve a snack, if you
are a first time visitor and your child(ren) has allergies, please escort your child upstairs. You may pick up your children upstairs

Our Mission
East Brentwood Presbyterian Church is a community church made up
of a loving, welcoming family of believers in honest conversation with
God. We seek to emulate the ministry of Jesus through compassionate
service, with stimulating and relevant exploration of God’s Word, and
by sharing that Word and God’s many blessings with our neighbors in
Middle Tennessee and around the world.
EBPC Commitment 2015
There is no tomorrow unless there is strength to grow from now.
Your annual gift secures the growth of our mission and ministries.
Caring for One Another: Building f riendships and forming relationships
among us is so important in being a church f amily. This happens informally over a cup of coff ee, over a meal at a f ellowship event, and as we
pray f or one another. The church, in every age, is first a network of f riendships. Our recent 25th anniversary celebration cast the light on the many
f riendships forged over the years. Today we aff irm that it will be this network of f riendship that will give us the capacity to inf luence our community
with love.
Mission: We are blessed to be able to support a wide variety of local,
national and international ministries. With this year, we resume our ministry of support to Room in the Inn. Next year, our goal is for 20% of our
giving to be used in support of mission and service.
Worship: Our worship seeks to be vibrant and meaningf ul, focusing on
praising God and nurturing spiritual growth. Through our visual banners,
thoughtf ul preaching and music that is joyf ul—f rom hymns and anthems
by our choir, musical praise by our worship ensemble, as well as our occasional musical guests—we seek to create an oasis for members and
guests on the journey of Christian f aith.
Learning:
Adult Education—Of f ering adults an opportunity to grow closer to Jesus
Christ through study and to promote a love of learning that challenges,
inspires, and motivates participants to live their f aith.
Youth—Our youth ministry exists to help students grow in their f aith, connect them to a lif estyle of service and worship, and bring the lif e-changing
message of the Gospel to them. In 2014, teenagers participated in mission work around our community and in Atlanta. Weekly they engage in
supportive and ref lective discussions that strengthen their relationship
with God, church, and community.
Children—Through our children’s ministry, we partner with f amilies to
help children know, love, and serve Jesus Christ. We do this through ageappropriate programs f rom 3 year olds through 5th grade. Through our
high-quality preschool, we provide an enriching educational program
weekly f or over 160 children ages 2 through 5.
