Dear Friends, Christmas fills us with reverie for Christmas’s past, a recollection of innocence, wonder, awe and the joy of sharing the love of family & friends. It’s important for us to recall that 25 December may end the Retail/Commercial “Holiday”, but for Catholics, 25 December is the beginning of the Christmas Season. Now is the time to make definite plans for being “Christ-bearers now, and throughout the Year of Grace. Blessed Christmas to all! Fr. Mike Check out our website www.ickenmore.org for new stories as well as pictures from the Holiday on the Boulevard event. Family News Corner Joshua Marcin, son of Phil & Linda, passed the California Bar Exam. He is presently employed as a clerk in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in Pasadena, California. Great job, Josh! Fr. Barron’s Advent Reflections (find more daily reflections at www.adventreflections.com) As we've already seen, Advent is a time of waiting. But does this mean that we do nothing? That we sit like lumps? No. In fact, there is something very "active" about waiting. Do you recall how lively and attentive you are when you are eagerly waiting for someone to arrive? When you watch for every car that comes by when you are waiting at the airport? Every sense strains to take in what is happening. Your mind is alive with expectation; your spirit is jumping. This is what waiting means in the spiritual sense; this is the mood of Advent. We're invited to actively wait, attuned to the coming Christ, looking for him in the liturgy, the Scriptures, in prayer, & in all those around us who bear his image. STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS How open are we to God’s will in our lives? How willing are we to forego our plans so that we may be obedient to God’s plan? Do we use our time, talent and treasure as God directs? In our first reading King David decides that a tent is not a suitable place for the Ark of the Covenant & resolves to build a glorious home for God. God, however, has other plans! It will not be David doing the building, it will be God. God reminds David of His faithfulness and then promises that He will “raise up your heir after you, sprung from your loins, and I will make his kingdom firm. I will be a father to him and he shall be a son to me.” That heir is Jesus, whose legal, earthly father, Joseph, is descended from the House of David. In the Gospel, a young girl who is engaged and planning her wedding has her plans turned upside down by God whose plan is for her to conceive a son – before marriage. This infant “will be great and will be called Son of the Most High and the Lord God will give him the throne of David...” Wow! God loves us so much that He gives us free will so both David and Mary could have refused to cooperate with God, but they did not and for their obedience were blessed in ways they could never have imaged. What is God asking of you? What could God do with your life if you surrendered to and cooperated with His will? Are you will to be His instruments in the world today? Make a gift of your life to the Holy Child born on Christmas. Liturgical Ministers Schedule Christmas Eve 5:30 pm Mass Lector: T. Cole EMHC: Priest, M.J. Andrews, R. McClellan, J. Eggert, C.
