Minnesota’s Jeff Sorenson Makes Miraculous Recovery from Back Surgery to Win Event 4 of 2014 PGA Tournament Series at PGA Golf Club PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Jeff Sorenson of Blaine, Minnesota, rallied behind a clutch 60-foot eagle chip-in on No. 17 of the Ryder Course at PGA Golf Club to capture Event 4 of the PGA Tournament Series presented by GOLF ADVISOR by one stroke. Sorenson shot 68 Friday and finished with a two-day total of 9-under-par 135. Bob Sowards of Dublin, Ohio, who was vying for his third consecutive win in the PGA Tournament Series, was in a group of four tied for second place. That group also included: Mark Faulkner of Marion, Illinois; Mark Brown of Glen Head, New York; and first-round leader Ben Polland of Manhassett, New York. Just a few months ago, Sorenson could not get out of bed due to a herniated disc in his back. As a result, he underwent the same microdiscectomy procedure Tiger Woods endured. After being sidelined and going through rehabilitation for more than two months, Sorenson entered the PGA Tournament Series. Sorenson used five birdies in addition to the eagle to earn his 100th career victory as a PGA Professional. He also collected $5,000 out of a purse of $30,500. “I kept myself in it mentally today, and I didn’t freak out,” said Sorenson, PGA Teaching Professional at Columbia Golf Club in Minneapolis. “I guess I’m getting more mature in my age. I’ve learned that nothing is ever given to you in golf. You have to earn it.” Earlier this week in Event 3, Sorenson finished second, one stroke behind Sowards. Last Friday in Event 2, he finished in a tie for second, again, one stroke back of Sowards. Today, the tables were turned. “I’m playing well and I’ve had a great run,” said Sowards, PGA Teaching Professional at New Albany (Ohio) Country Club. “Jeff’s a good player and it’s not surprising to me at all that he’s playing well.” The PGA Tournament Series presented by GOLF ADVISOR is a six-event contest for PGA Professionals. Event 5 will be conducted on Dec. 15-16 at PGA Golf Club. PGA Tournament Series presented by GOLF ADVISOR Event 4 – Final Round PGA Golf Club, Port St. Lucie, Fla.
