B AND S TUDENTS E ARN D ISTRICT H ONORS
In November our instrumental music department
had several students who
were selected to the East
Central All-District Band
and Jazz Band through audition process. Many hours
were spent by these students out of class to prepare
scales, etudes, and improvisation skills for their audition. Those selected to the
All-District Concert band
were: Elizabeth Runyon
(2nd chair flute), Jackie
Lincoln (1st chair oboe),
Anna Ortmann (13th chair
clarinet), and Tiara Crawford (6th chair French
Horn). These students performed with the All-District
Band on November 8th.
Also, 8 were selected to the
East Central All-District
Jazz Band, giving North
County the highest representation out of all participating schools. Students
selected were: Jordan Leftridge (1st Alto Sax), Zach
Edgar (1st Tenor Sax), Sean
O’Donnell (Bari Sax), Maytik Patel (1st trumpet), Josh
Newburry (5th trumpet),
Grace Fiedler (3 trombone), Darren Thomas
(Guitar), and Gaige Cummings (Bass). These students will perform with the
all-Distirct Jazz Band on
Saturday, December 13 at
Jefferson College.

Senior vocal music student
Joey Wells was recognized
as the Music Department’s
student of the month for
October. Joey is a member
of both Concert Choir and
NC Singers and was just
recently selected to the East
Central All-District Choir
as a Top 20 Tenor. Joey
was given the student of the
month honor because of his
leadership skills in the choral rehearsal and the amount
of out of class time he
spends preparing for auditions and solo events.
“Joey has worked very hard
to achieve the successes he
has had this year.” says choir
director Allyn Rizo. “He is
not satisfied with mediocrity and is always pushing
himself to be a better musician and leader.”
Joey also appeared as
Harry, a rustic knight, in
the Vocal Music Department’s recent Renaissance
Dinner.

IN MAAA H ONORS B AND
17 Band students will be representing North County in
the upcoming MAAA All-Conference Band. These
students were selected based on director recommendations and are: Elizabeth Runyon (flute), Chloe Bess
(flute), Jackie Lincoln (Oboe), Anna Ortmann
(clarinet), Emily Pigg (clarinet), Emily Owings
(clarinet), Haylee Brooks (bass clarinet), Jordan
Hoskin (alto sax), Zach Edgar (Tenor sax), Sean O’Donnell (bari sax), Grace Fiedler (Trombone), Matt Ortmann
(trombone), Kendall Beister (euphonium), Gaige Cummings (tuba), Kylie Sago (percussion), and Tim Masulit
(percussion).

On October 16, the North
County Jazz Band had the great
opportunity to learn from one of
jazz’s great musicians, Reggie
Thomas, who was visiting Mineral Area College for a performance with the Kicks Band. Thomas, who plays piano for the
Count Basie Orchestra, made
himself available during the day
to speak and work with the
area’s young jazz musicians.
“Our students said that was the
most fun they have ever had in
their many jazz clinics,” com-
mented NCHS band director,
Dobie Carroll. Thomas and
the Mineral Area Kicks Band
gave a concert that evening
that was attended by many of
our instrumental jazz students.
T WO N AMED TO M ISSOURI ALL -S TATE C HOIR
In November, nine of
our vocal music students auditioned for
spots in the Missouri
All-State Choir. This
is a very competitive
process where only 4
members and 2 alternates are selected
from each section of
the All-District Choir. North
County had two sopranos
selected as members to the
All-State Choir, Peyton
Couchman (Junior) and
Kirsten Cash (Senior). This is
Kirsten’s second year in a
row to be named as an AllStater. In addition, Kirsten
also received the highest sight
reading score during the audition process and will be represented the East Central
District in the State Music
Reading Competition. These
ladies will travel to Tan-Tar-
A Resorts in Osage Beach
later in January to sing with
the Mo. All-State Choir for
the conclusion of the Missouri
Educators Convention.

word that a third soprano, Ramsee Johnson, will be pulled up to
fill an alternate position that was
vacated by another student. Congratulations to Ramsee.)
E LIZABETH R UNYON NAMED STUDENT OF THE MONTH FOR SEPTEMBER
September’s Music Department Student of the Month
was senior band student,
Elizabeth Runyon. Elizabeth
is currently serving as head
Field Commander for the
2014 Raider Regiment.
“Elizabeth has done an excellent job this year at displaying
the characteristics of true
leadership throughout our
marching season.” said band
Director Dobie Carroll. “I
sometimes joke that we are
lucky to have a fourth band
director in our program that
just happens to still be in high
school. “
Elizabeth and the other
Raider Regiment Field Commanders where recently honored with a Caption Award at
the Farmington Marching
Band Invitational for Outstanding Field Command.

2014 R ENAISSANCE D INNER P RODUCTION H IGHLIGHTS
Our North County Vocal
Music Department hosted a
successful weekend of Renaissance Dinner on November
21 and 22.
“We want to thank our North
County Community for patronizing this very special
event. We had 128 in attendance for our Friday show
and 170 for our Saturday
show,” said choral director,
Allyn Rizo. “Our young students worked very hard on
this production and there was
lots to do. We had singers,
actors, waitresses, dancers,
sword fighters, jugglers, and
arm wrestlers.”
The Renaissance Dinner Production has become a biannual event for the Vocal
Music Department. If you
missed out this year, make
plans to join us in 2016!
The ladies of Trebleaires served as the evenings waitresses.
Senior vocal music students Eli Behlke and MacKenzie
Martin play the roles of the King and Queen.
The evening ended with a pie to the face for junior,
Ramsee Johnson.
Many of our NC faculty and board members
were sent to the stockade during the dinner.
