The FNCC continues to play an important role in mobilizing us in that direction by hosting an active resource centre, by promoting communication skills through language and arts training programmes, and by presenting an array of stimulating, interactive events. In the next two months Namibians will be winding up the academic year and those with voting power will cast their votes to elect new leadership. However, at the FNCC it will be business as usual with exciting events on offer. UNAM’s Visual Arts students will showcase their new fashion designs in the annual fashion show that has become a regular feature on the FNCC almanac. The creative collection of the winner of the Excellence Award, Marcellinus Swartbooi, is guaranteed to be one of the highlights. Musically there will also be much on offer, with special mention of the musical trio CAB who will show the audience how they connect Caribbean, African and Brazilian music. There will also be talks about music with Shishani and Ernst Vranckx who will discuss Africa’s input in the development of Jazz. Af ter standing in election queues on 28 November, you are invited to sit down or dance to the music of local talents, Shannon & Simon and RAT, who will be featured during Acoustic Friday, promising us new song material. As usual, the word and theatre are also given their rightful place in the programme of the FNCC. You are therefore encouraged to attend a public discussion on Namibian Poetry with Helen Vale and Sarala Krishnamurthy, and to join Tanya Terblanche and her merry theatre-sports team to end off the year on a festive note. Thursday 13 November CAB’s mission was to uncover the missing musical link between their continents. After long exploring, practicing and travelling, these three men of the world have come together to bring to us what they have mastered. Mario Canonge, one of the most famous Caribbean jazz pianists, Adriano Tenoriodd, a Brazilian master of percussion, and Blick Bassy, a sensual voice from Cameroon; together they form CAB. FNCC Gallery Until 5 Dec 18h30 Free Entry Coming from different cultures, countries, continents, not even seas could have driven these three men from their mission to music. It is rather their love for their roots that has enabled them to come together to form CAB – a music group that embodies Caribbean, African and Brazilian music with Jazz being the glue that unifies their unique sound. With their cultural, musical mixture, music becomes infinite. Being the new sensation, these men are much in demand. Touring, together and individually, from Japan, to Europe, and across to the Americas. They now have dedicated two months to travelling around Africa. CAB will be enchanting us with their mixture of jazz, rock, fusion, zouk, and Caribbean sounds. This is a night of mixture you would not want to miss out on. CAB, comme trois lettres pour Caraïbe, Afrique et Brésil. Trois artistes également, Mario Canonge, Blick Bassy et Adriano Tenorio. Un concert jazz aux multiples influences à ne surtout pas manquer. ACOUSTIC FRIDAY RAT and Shannon & Simon Friday 28 November 20h00 FNCC Terrace Tickets: FNCC n$30 n$50 advance door An evening specifically for those music lovers. A songwriter, a vocalist and a drummer make up the trio that is known as RAT. This local acoustic trio consists of Ray Seedfeldt, Anesh Morar, and Tania Ott, whose purpose is to have FUN. Their harmonic vocals, touching tunes and casual attitude make listening to them blissful. Their music ranges from cover songs to original tracks that go from ‘heartfelt serenades’ to ‘foot-stomping belters’. When listening to RAT what is guaranteed is that you’ll either end up singing along or dancing around. Opening up for RAT are singer Shannon Grellmann and guitarist Simon Celliers, making up Shannon & Simon. Shannon is an up and coming English and Afrikaans singer/musician. In 2013 she recorded her first demo CD, Humble Beginnings, with Groove Studio in Windhoek and Traxtudios in South Africa. Humble Beginnings consists of 15 cover songs. Shannon and Simon first performed together this year at the World Music Day at Palmtree Park. Together they perform music that ranges from country to acoustic pop. According to Shannon “…music truly expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent”. So on the 28th of November, don’t be silent, come and be swayed. RAT est un trio de chanteurs et musiciens namibiens aux influences rock et folk. Shannon et Simon, deux jeunes artistes locaux, ouvriront le bal. Ces groupes étaient tous deux présents à la dernière Fête de la Musique. Poets in Namibia usually do not get enough exposure, so here is a unique opportunity to see and hear from the best-known Namibian poets in action - Keamogetsi Molapong, Hugh Ellis, Nunu Namises and Jacques Mushaandja. A discussion will be held by Helen Vale, former senior lecturer at the University of Namibia, and Sarala Krishnamurthy, Professor at the Polytechnic of Namibia. Some poetry books will be on sale and refreshments will be served on the terrace afterwards. Come learn and enjoy Namibian poetry at its best. Pour ce nouvel événement littéraire, la poésie namibienne sera à l’honneur. De nombreux artistes locaux donneront de la voix et de la rime à cette occasion. | PAGE 7 PAGE 8 | | EVENTS / événements screenings / PROJECTIONS | Are you fearful of keeping your sanity over the festive season?
